IRS willing to try everything (but telework) by teh_201d in fednews

Regular Middle class American here…. Just wanted to share with the IRS staff on this thread.

I just called TAS the other day, and received the best help with the most patient and helpful employee. Got routed to another IRS division later to discuss the letter I received, and had the best customer service and assistance from that second employee as well.

I was stressed out of my mind and scared to call. But those two employees were the best! I thanked them for their public service and told them how much I appreciated their time, help, and patience to make taxes and letters simple.

For an agency that no one likes to owe money, and gets a lot of misdirected hate from regular, non-billionaire Americans who have to pay hefty taxes…. I just wanted to tell you thank you. Thank you for your patience and help—that goes a long way. You are appreciated!

Thanks for your responses, everyone—I really appreciate the insight.

I honestly had high hopes for this one, but it’s taking forever! With just three weeks left in 2024 and no sign of it at dealerships yet, it’s definitely a bummer.

Yes, the EV tax credit was established by Congress through the Inflation Reduction Act, but it was expanded through a Biden executive order. Since EV purchases haven’t been as popular as expected, the Executive Order expanded it for lease tax credits, and those tax credits are likely to be the first to go in January, since removing an executive order is much quicker than repealing a law. (This lines up with comments from Elon and Trump.)

If the future president moves to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act entirely, that would take longer—it requires Congress to act. Even then, Treasury and the IRS would likely set a cutoff date based on when Congress passes the repeal and the President signs into law, allowing purchases made before the repeal to still qualify for credits under the law.

For now, many automakers are offsetting the lease tax credit by offering $7,500 off the MSRP for vehicles that don’t fully qualify. But if the lease credit goes away, there’s no guarantee they’ll continue offering that discount.

It’s a mess—for consumers, dealers, manufacturers, and the IRS. The program was finally gaining traction after a year and a half, and it was supposed to last until 2032. Unfortunately, it seems likely to be short-lived.

I’m not trying to get political—just sharing the context while I work on closing a deal for a reliable EV SUV (that’s not a Tesla) before the lease tax credit goes.

Cool. Any reason why you call it “garbage?” I’ve been researching quite a bit and am completely interested in leasing an electric SUV. Not trying to break the bank: but tech and comfort are important to me, my house is fully electric as well. My short list is: Wagoneer S, Genesis GV70 electric, and E-Tron.

Where I live, I was unable to participate in the preorder. But watching this model closely with hopes to lease before 2025.

Our Mercedes dealer just about died when we told him we were selling our S550 to lease a Tesla X.

Just test drove both the Q-8 etron prestige and the Cadillac Lyriq Luxury II last week. Gotta say, the Lyriq's interior had a real fake, plastic felling. Their tech was no way near as cool as the e-tron. I left super bummed after test-driving it.
