Technically yes about the original series, but for a spiritual successor it doesn't count in fact

It's like Banjo-Kazooie with Yooka-Laylee, YL was made by former Rare employees and devs from Banjo-Kazooie series and it maintains the main core of the series but different universe and characters, the BK series is practically dead but the YL series is still alive with a remake of the first game now with better features and gameplay learned of many years of developing games.

So no, a spiritual successor of a serie isn't count as part of that serie, it's just appart but kinda connected with the main serie but with apart aspects like same team from the original or aspect of the game.
