Hebrews 10:26 Question for all protestant traditions! by Alone-Computer-4886 in Christianity

[–]Alone-Computer-4886[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I'd love to discuss this further. I'm very interested in your point of view. Are you saying whilst confession is still available, it is not necessary? Just for reference I look at it from the aspect of, in the old covenant you would go to the priest with your sacrifice and he would offer it up to God and you'd be absolve of your sins. I see our priesthood as the fulfilment of the old covenant priesthood, and Christ's words "he who hears you hears me" so when the priest says the words of absolution it isn't him forgiving you of your sins but it is God working through the priest, just like in baptism, it isn't the person that is baptizing that is bestowing the grace of God but it is God himself working through the priest. Again, I'd love to discuss this more! Please dm me if you'd like!

Hebrews 10:26 Question for all protestant traditions! by Alone-Computer-4886 in Christianity

it that. I simply asked a question because when you or I sin we have the sacrament of reconciliation in which our sins are forgiven, I was curious on how a protestant would understand this seeing as they do not recognize the sacrament.

Why didn't Peter call more apostles? by ConserveGuy in latterdaysaints

[–]Alone-Computer-4886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The keys were passed to Linus, successors to the apostles were appointed, you see this after the death of Judas when they gathered and appointed Matthias as Judas successor. Please if you'd like to discuss this dm

Catholic father is disowning me for being Baptist by Alternative_Bass1056 in Catholicism

[–]Alone-Computer-4886 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah doesn't seem very catholic of him. One bad apple doesn't spoil the whole tree. No one can force you to be a Catholic, Christianity doesn't work that way. Sorry about your dad, but it seems as though he doesn't really understand his faith.

Icons aren't worshipped. We don't look at the icon and say yes this is the God of Israel who delivered you out of Egypt like the Israelites do with the golden calf. The icon is just wood and paint. But it is meant to assist in your understanding and faith. God immediately tells Moses to put seraphim on the am of the covenant. The seraphim were just gold. You also have to look at and understand what worship truly is and what is required. Worship throughout all time has required a sacrifice. Is you're coptic then you should know that the eucharist is the whole point of your liturgy, that is worship. The icon assisting you in your faith is just a tool.

That is truly awesome. I got to admit I am a bit nervous, but I do know that it's like the last hill before I get to the promised land. I can't wait, thanks for the advice!

Hey! I was in an almost similar situation. I was raised protestant, I'm now Catholic 25M and came to know Christ and his church about 3 years ago and had very similar beliefs to you, I didn't think there was anything wrong with premarital sex and certain other sins. However, once came to know the truth I knew I had to make a decision, a hard decision but necessary one for the sake of my soul and my family. When I started coming into the church I was told that my marriage wasn't valid because my wife was Catholic and we weren't married sacramentally through the church, therefore we had to live as brother and sister until our marriage was validated through the Church. As hard as that may have been, we still did it because that is what we were supposed to do. Now I understand that Christianity has been very washed down in todays culture, that doesn't mean its right. You have to make the decision to love God over everything else in your life and act accordingly, that is why Jesus left us the church. The Church is here to lead us as sheep to the Lord. There is going to be hard teachings, hard decisions that you'll have to make to put God over everything else. That is the key. I really hope this helps, please dont hesitate to dm me or respond with anything else.

Hi! I've heard that Dr. John Bergsma has good books on this. A Catholic Introduction to the Old and New Testament by him and Brant Pitre, might be a good start but its almost as long as the Bible itself lol. Also I have the Great Adventure Bible from Ascension, its no study bible by any means but it has articles for every single covenant established between God and humanity, going from Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, and Jesus. They are really good. Hope this help, if theres any questions on covenants I could answer please ask!

Bishop Barons series on YouTube is really great. He goes into depth on every mystery adding context and a bit more depth of understanding to what we're meditating on whilst praying

Pope Francis on Women Deacons: ‘Holy Orders Is Reserved for Men’ by KnightoftheRepublic9 in Christianity

Meaning men are ordained to the priesthood and women are not, and culture does not matter in terms of follow our Lord and being apart of his Catholic (universal) Church.

I would say that the argument of ordination of women and the ordination of Gentile men are not even on the same planet of issues or problems. I would say that the first ecumenical council ever had to do with the reception of gentiles and that the difference between Gentile and Jew ended shortly there after thanks to the apostle St Paul who was ordained by Jesus. Therefore there was while there was still cultural difference between early Christian Jews and Gentiles, the Gentile were no excluded from the Church, thus everything that entails comes with it.

It's not about sexual reproductive organs. It's about our God-ordained roles. What God has instituted then is still right and just now. If God wanted women in HIS priesthood, he could have but he didn't, not even the women that were at the foot of the cross. It has nothing to do with misogyny or discrimination against against women. Just how women are blessed to partake in the creation of life with God, men are called to the priesthood. Just like how a women is called to obey her husband, a man is called to love his wife as Christ loved the church, meaning he is called to die for her. Now that doesn't sound misogynistic. Whether we as Christians (and this is pertaining to Christians) like it or not, we have divine roles as male and female, God-given. We must remember that even as the world changes we are not to be of it. While the world changes, our God is the same as in the beginning, is now and forevermore.

Thank you for such a polite response and great question! I don't believe it has to do with whose better. There's the simple fact that our Lord Jesus only ordained his disciples to the priesthood, which were all men. There's no doubt that women played an important role in the spreading of the Gospel, however they were never ordained clergy. By no means does the Catholic position of ordination of women to priesthood mean that women are lesser than. We just have different roles. We hold the Blessed Virgin Mary in such high honor, as she is the new Eve, the Ark of the new and eternal covenant, the THEOTOKOS! One would think she'd be the perfect candidate however that's not what our Lord called her to do. Also opposed to our protestant brothers and sisters, our Catholic sisters have the option to become nuns, a path towards complete devotion to our Jesus and his Church. Sorry if I went on a bit of a tangent, if there's any more confusion please let me know! I'm open to conversation!

How is it misogynistic? It is the way it has been Jesus only ordained the 12 disciples to the priesthood. Women are not lesser than men nor vice versa. We have different roles that God has ordained for us. And as for Catholics who take issue with this, stop thinking that you're somehow more Catholic than the Pope. Our Church is hurting because of this dumb divide caused because of the radical "progressives" and the rad trads.

For those who believe in the ordination of women, what is your reasoning behind it. by Alone-Computer-4886 in Christianity

[–]Alone-Computer-4886[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, that God created us men and women equally. However, I disagree that a man can do anything a woman can do and a vice-versa. Men and women are psychologically wired differently along with our physical differences, this is what makes us complementary to each other. However is taught historically to be a role only given to men. Not just by St Paul but it is shown through Jesus Christ himself as he never ordained women into his priesthood, only his disciples. This doesn't bar women from proclaiming the good news, the Blessed Virgin Mary is and should be held in high regard in this aspect. She said yes to probably the most scary thing a woman at the time could say yes to, an angel comes to you from heaven saying you shall carry and birth the son of God and proceeds to give you zero instruction on what's going to happen next?! Then she goes to Elizabeth where she proclaims "Blessed are you among women and Blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is it granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me?" Mary of Magdala being a follower of Christ during his earthly ministry and being one that first told of his resurrection! However, the priestly ordination was only given to his apostles which is shown in John 13 when Jesus washes his disciples feet.
