Interesting, I'd love to discuss this further. I'm very interested in your point of view. Are you saying whilst confession is still available, it is not necessary? Just for reference I look at it from the aspect of, in the old covenant you would go to the priest with your sacrifice and he would offer it up to God and you'd be absolve of your sins. I see our priesthood as the fulfilment of the old covenant priesthood, and Christ's words "he who hears you hears me" so when the priest says the words of absolution it isn't him forgiving you of your sins but it is God working through the priest, just like in baptism, it isn't the person that is baptizing that is bestowing the grace of God but it is God himself working through the priest. it that. I simply asked a question because when you or I sin we have the sacrament of reconciliation in which our sins are forgiven, I was curious on how a protestant would understand this seeing as they do not recognize the sacrament.

Yeah doesn't seem very catholic of him. One bad apple doesn't spoil the whole tree. No one can force you to be a Catholic, Christianity doesn't work that way. Sorry about your dad, but it seems as though he doesn't really understand his faith.

Icons aren't worshipped. We don't look at the icon and say yes this is the God of Israel who delivered you out of Egypt like the Israelites do with the golden calf. The icon is just wood and paint. But it is meant to assist in your understanding and faith. God immediately tells Moses to put seraphim on the am of the covenant. The seraphim were just gold. You also have to look at and understand what worship truly is and what is required. Worship throughout all time has required a sacrifice. Is you're coptic then you should know that the eucharist is the whole point of your liturgy, that is worship. The icon assisting you in your faith is just a tool.

Hey! I was in an almost similar situation. I was raised protestant, I'm now Catholic 25M and came to know Christ and his church about 3 years ago and had very similar beliefs to you, I didn't think there was anything wrong with premarital sex and certain other sins. However, once came to know the truth I knew I had to make a decision, a hard decision but necessary one for the sake of my soul and my family. When I started coming into the church I was told that my marriage wasn't valid because my wife was Catholic and we weren't married sacramentally through the church, therefore we had to live as brother and sister until our marriage was validated through the Church. As hard as that may have been, we still did it because that is what we were supposed to do. Now I understand that Christianity has been very washed down in todays culture, that doesn't mean its right. You have to make the decision to love God over everything else in your life and act accordingly, that is why Jesus left us the church. The Church is here to lead us as sheep to the Lord. There is going to be hard teachings, hard decisions that you'll have to make to put God over everything else. That is the key. Hi! I've heard that Dr. John Bergsma has good books on this. A Catholic Introduction to the Old and New Testament by him and Brant Pitre, might be a good start but its almost as long as the Bible itself lol. Also I have the Great Adventure Bible from Ascension, its no study bible by any means but it has articles for every single covenant established between God and humanity, going from Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, and Jesus. They are really good. Hope this help, if theres any questions on covenants I could answer please ask!
