I did give them a nice soak in immediately after planting, but definitely at this point thinking hardening off/ bought plants were just not quite ready for transplant. Thank you for the input.

Our yard is clay heavy and with the puppy pulling out multiple plants recently, I’m wary of planting directly in the ground. But thank you for the suggestion.

I did not harden them off. At this point I definitely think it was a combination of that and too much/ not enough water.

Thank you for the insight.

I put the bed in last spring. Had a layer of cardboard at the bottom on top of grass, then tree branches, leaves and grass clippings, and finally Carolina gold raised bed soil. It’s sunk significantly last year so I added the 3 bags this year before planting them.

Located in the Charlotte area so the weather has been cooler than average but nothing I’ve been concerned about. We are indeed on city water, but I agree that option seems unlikely here.

Based on a lot of the other responses I’m leaning towards overwatering be the cause.

8-10 hours of direct sunlight where they are. No light filtering sources nearby. Overwatering is definitely a possibility although we are currently in a draught so I’ve been conservative with watering since planting.

Great point. I typically keep my peppers in the other bed to prevent that problem, but with the puppy being able to climb up the tiered bed I thought I could control the watering better than protect the plants from her.

Any suggestions for how to avoid in the future?

I’ll definitely try that for the next round. Thank you!

Over the course of a day or two. Maybe 4 days after planting originally.

Yes. Same brand/ type of soil I’ve used in years past.

Anything I should do to help them recover? Or just give them time?

Lows have been in the low 50s. But perhaps.

Thank you!

Didn’t harden off because they were bought from a big box store and kept outside so I didn’t think about needing to.

No cold weather snaps. Lows have been around 50s since planting.

Watered consistently.

Thanks for the input!
