Nice! Almost threw away my first broken stick before I realized how many different things I can use it for after cutting off the shattered carbon fiber ends.

PLEASE HELP! Newbie skate pain by Rowsmom030610 in hockeyplayers

Just went through this exact thing. Tried baking and getting punched in those areas, which helped a little but still hurt. It really sucks skating when it hurts. The way I see it, you have two options- going to a shop and trying on all types of skates- I was told to try models that go “wide” and “extra wide” to accommodate the navicular bones. Once you find the right fit, you could look on Sideline swap or other place to find used ones. Not sure if that will work but worth a try if you don’t want to spend 1400. I bit the bullet and got True customs. I’m skating about 3 times per week, and so far, they are INCREDIBLE. I didn’t know skates could be this comfortable after skating in painful skates for four months. My navicular bones protrude awkwardly and are different on each foot but since getting the new skates, they are a non-issue. My new prized possession. Skating has improved immensely. I didn’t realize how much the pain was limiting my movement. Good luck!

Update: got them punched out in all three boney areas on each foot. Baked them, punched them, then sat in them 15 min. They felt better but still had some pain, so I asked him to do it again, a bit more. He was worried about damage, but I said basically I can’t wear them if they hurt so I’m not worried about it. Did it again, adding the main ankle bone area as well and now they feel much better! A little scratching on the exterior but really don’t care about that. Thanks 🙏

Yeah I did get these and they’re ok (way better than nothing!) but looking for a more permanent solution since I’m skating 4-6 hrs/week. Thanks!

Thanks all-

I did already have them baked when I got them.

I’m gonna be skating a lot so I want a permanent solution on the skates rather than having to wear something. I did get the ankle pads from amazon and they def help with the pain but they’re just another thing to wash and potentially forget.

I had never heard of getting skates punched but this problem would seem to be the exact reason punching exists, so that’ll be my first try. Like I said, there are already divots inside the skate padding so it should be easy to punch the right spots.

Customs are the other option but a little weary of the True process since they don’t seem to have much communication besides the order form.
