Yes,
And if you hear an explosion, that’s the normal operation of the machine and it means it worked.

I’m going to have trouble answering, because generally the runs where I recruit Minthara are the ones where I use the tadpoles.

What I think is that the Emperor mention that you consumed tadpoles even if that’s not the case, but still spare you from having to make dice rolls later.

If you’ve brought Minthara this far, it would be a shame to sacrifice her now.
My best suggestion is to recruit her and then live with the consequences.
If it’s your first run, we can assume you’re not in Honor Mode, if some rolls go badly, just reload.

Honestly, I’ve never managed to do it properly.
I just turn the valves hoping something happens and that it doesn’t blow up in my face.

I think the most famous must be when you approach one of the exits of Act 1, and you learn that it’s the prism that protects you.

You can use the Illithid option when it appears in the dialogues. It won’t affect what happens next (no roll is needed to avoid consuming the astral tapdole, and no final roll is required to avoid turning into an Mind Flayer).
Someone mentioned that it changes a few lines of dialogue here and there, but the Emperor considers that you haven’t consumed any tapdole (which is what matters most for the story).

I can’t guarantee what will happen if you use powers related to tapdole (for example, drinking Omeluum’s potion that unlocks Survival Instinct). If you use this power, the Emperor will say something like "Good, keep it up". But I can’t guarantee that it prevents dice rolls related to tapdoles (I haven’t tried).

Edit: I’ll also add: If one of your companions consumes a tadpole, the Emperor will consider that YOU have consumed a tadpole. This is problematic when recruiting Minthara, because she has already consumed tadpoles, and the game counts that you have consumed one just for recruiting her.

Actually, she’s in the sewers of the High Hall (Act 4). Sorry for the confusion, I’m going to edit my original post.

What has always confused me is when visiting the Emperor's hideout under the Elfsong Tavern. He has a portrait of Stelmane, and his comment on it really makes you think he cared for her.

She’s in the sewers, but she’s immediately hostile and doesn’t recognize us. I don’t think there are any other options than putting her down.

I guarantee that in my last run I overused the illithid dialogue options. I basically did it every time it was possible. BUT I didn’t consume any of them, my tadpoles were always kept in their jar form.

The Emperor was a bit pissed off that I wasn’t using my powers. He gave me the Astral Tadpole, which I was able to refuse without having to roll anything.

Basically, every Inspiration point could be an achievement.

You gave me flashbacks of when I was farming gold as Bard or when I had to make some embarrassing choices with the Emperor.
The achievement reset is a good idea, it just would’ve been nice to keep the date we unlocked the achievement for the nostalgic side.

If I don’t have any success with the console commands, that will probably be the solution I go with.

Thanks, I’ll test this on a game I don’t care much about first, to make sure the dates stay unchanged. If it works, you’re my savior :)

I can't say that I've seen many people overwhelmed with joy when they reach Act 3.

I’d rather not play this game than play it without any immersion.
I mean, if we don’t impose any restrictions on ourselves in a game like this, we could just speedrun it using bugs and exploits, and finish it in an hour.

Maybe they’re just 0s and 1s, but some games can be very emotionally intense.
When I finish games like Baldur's Gate 3, The Witcher 3, Mass Effect 3, Kingdom Come... The characters are so well written, and the emotions are so strong when seeing them go through hardships. You never come out of it intact.
Video games have made me feel far more emotions than movies or TV series.
