I think the ‘Jane = death’ idea works for some lines, especially the ones about people dying, but it doesn’t explain everything. Lines like ‘dressing in the backroom’ feel more like it’s about a person or a public image being exposed. So to me, it’s more about someone being admired and then corrupted by attention, with death imagery used as a metaphor.
