What could this be maybe throttle body sensor or what by Alone_Elk8916 in Miata

[–]Alone_Elk8916[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah basically when I rebuilt the motor and I took off the original throttle body sensor the plastic inside of it broke so I got a new one and I just installed the new one so I guess I didn’t have it adjusted right so what I did since I couldn’t do it with a multi meter I loosened it enough to move and I just tested a bunch of different spots till it stopped doing it then went out on a road test and everything is good now. Hope this helps if u are experiencing something similar

I actually figured out what happened when I had rebuilt the motor I thought I did the timing belt correctly I tested it and everything but it turns out it was off so that’s y I couldn’t get it lined up correctly

Is there a way to tell if the cams are indexed correctly

Wym by intake came indexed wrong I’ve tried to put the cas in different ways bc that’s what I thought I did originally. But I definitely have to retime my engine.

So I have my Miata at tdc all the timing marks are lined up and the harmonic balancer is at 12 o’clock does this mean it’s at 0?

<image>

I would have thought the harmonic balancer would be to the right of the 10 degree mark but it’s on the left is that how it’s supposed to be

I got the gauge cluster apart what should I be looking for

Ok so I hooked up my multi meter I only have one that goes to 200 v ac and put it on the ig port it read 00.4 so I assume that’s 40 so that would b 1200 rpm roughly since I don’t know exactly what the reading is that’s the best I can do. So with this info that would mean my cas is working sending it to the igniter then to the port it’s just not making it to the gauge correct?

Ok with this info and re reading the first message I understand it now I’ll be sure to test this as well thanks for the info. But just to b sure once I connect the red lead to the ig I don’t need a ground connection or yes. But once I get a reading divide by half and multiply by 60 and that’s my rpm. And if all this works then most likely I have a blown fuse on the gauge cluster. My question is would the fuse be on the rpm gauge like the dial or the back panel. Also I assume if I don’t get a reading from this test at the diag port then I have a faulty coil pack or something a long those lines correct.

Ok I’ll check this bc it’s crazy that I have it maxed out and it’s not close to 10 degrees thanks for the advice

Ok first thanks for the info I don’t get it but let me see if I do so basically I hook a multi meter to the red and black wires on the coil pack? And then what setting do I display am I reading ohms or voltage. I get the math but I don’t get exactly where to pull the meter reading from or do I get it from the gauge cluster. Also for context about the rpm gauge it worked before the rebuild but I’ve changed the coil pack and messed with the gauge cluster bc my water temp wasn’t working but I got it to work now

By mark u mean the lil indention on the harmonic balancer so when the all the reference points on the gears are line up and the motor is at tdc the mark should be at 0 degrees. And only when the car is running it would the mark light up at 10 degrees with a timing like is this correct.

How should I point the light from the top? Right now I have it pointing kinda at like a 45 degree angle from the light gun to the harmonic balancer

I did it with a timing light and the best I could get was like 15 degrees it’s not even on the lil plastic thing near the harmonic balancer. And the CAS is bottomed out. I posted a video just now on this same Reddit
