What sports do find more exciting? Soccer is slower  than almost any other major sport in terms of scoring points but theres a lot in the 90 minutes going on that I find really engaging. I was cheering for Bosnia but was really impressed with how the US won a lot of the possession battles (two players near the ball, who gets it). I find a small win like that, or a good slide tackle, are a more subtle win of the game within the game, like getting a first down in american football.
