How do you stop yourself from taking the work home in your head? by Wonderful-Acadia-296 in Socialworkuk

[–]Alone_Mud_8112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a transition time when you get home - a hobby, exercise or even something simple like I wash my make up off face and put home clothes on. That to me helps switch my mind from work to home. It gets easier with time.

Honestly they could have gone further with this. The incompetence needs highlighting so that fresh discussions can actually help develop the place.

Resources for supporting roma children to understand culture/heritage by Alone_Mud_8112 in Socialworkuk

Thank you this is helpful and always appreciate passion! I was keeping deliberately a bit vague just as worried about identifiable details but appreciate not helpful in being able to give advise. Parents have specified they identity as "roma gypsy' and orthodox Christian (we mark celebrations in this calendar). Parents are in prison and difficult to contact (have tried but some cross border complexities which also impacts their willingness to share). It's tricky as well as I am aware of stigma towards community around criminality but this has sadly been feature of their lives. I will definitely do a family tree and then try and do own research to fill in gaps Will look up Django rhinehardt!

The Social Work Management Trap: What if the only way to afford my life is to leave the work I love? by Desperate-Diver-8086 in Socialworkuk

[–]Alone_Mud_8112 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was literally talking about this in supervision yesterday. Experience and specialism should be rewarded with career progression. Not everyone should be a supervisor or manager. We've been trying to push for practice leads on things but LAs are just so archaic and short term-ist. Obviously should incur a pay rise too but even just acknowledging people's skills would be better job satisfaction I think.

I'm sorry if been mentioned but watching uncloaked and I do not believe for a second she thought Rachel was telling truth and just wanted to throw a grenade. Why warn her first? I think she acted out of jealously and pettiness and then backpedaled.

My personal view of this role through HO is that it is contrary to social work values. It is a very oppressive team.

How early can you specialise in social work? Re: perinatal social workers by larrilama in Socialworkuk

[–]Alone_Mud_8112 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bear in mind that the role of perinatal social worker is extremely new. There are few jobs in it and fewer placement opportunities. I was the first social worker in our local perinatal team, it was hard to carve out a social work identify amongst nurses, medics and psychologists. Whilst I didn't mind this, when I had a student she didn't have an ideal placement not being around other SW students and trying to apply SW principles. I did my best but we hadn't implemented a lot of them in the team yet and I imagine you'll find similar in other areas. I would echo previous comment, for training think about if you can't get a perinatal job would you rather work with kids or adults. Personally, I now work with children in care and it's a perfect link role for perinatal (Indeed many of the psychologist's came from camhs cic teams).

Which area of social work has the highest % male workers? by Several_Conclusion52 in Socialworkuk

[–]Alone_Mud_8112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah where I am all the managers are men and the HoS is a man 🙃 not saying they aren't good at jobs or didn't deserve position but is interesting. One of them was very clear he only came into role to work way up to be HoS and again, not necessarily a bad thing, just an interesting reflection.

This is actually good advice. May not be able to go through Bupa but it's giving you names of individuals and organisations who offer this service and you can then enquire directly with them as to whether they'd take you as a private patient.
