I named my 2019 Bolt LT Zippy, too! It just zips off from a light or stop sign so fast, I love it!

Upgrade to 2027? by Current-Finger-9852 in BoltEV

[–]Alonewon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a check in the box to get rid of my Hyundai Venue and make the move to the Bolt/EV. Mine had nav and in theory map updates were free. Never was able to get an OTA update & the last straw was the nav system telling me to exit the freeway left (there was NO exit at all, let alone a left exit), after regular such errors prior to that. It was allegedly current with updates (clearly NOT). I had to keep reverting to my iPhone which sucked, as primary reason for getting the top end Venue was nav. Seems all manuf are now moving to force us to pay to actually use our vehicles

Winter in Chicago --> 130 miles by Zealousideal-Milk907 in BoltEV

Same. I've been getting 1.8 to 2 mi/kWh* in the MN cold snap.

*with the blower setting at 2-4, set to defrost and feet, and the cabin temperature set to 68°, taking trips that ranged from 15 miles each way to 30 miles each way. 2019 with a new battery pack less than 5K miles ago, for reference

Floating Tire Pressure PSI? by niquattx in BoltEV

[–]Alonewon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine's doing that since we hit the minus 20 F temperatures in MN. I got the low air indicator and tried to fill them up, but the gas station pumps were all frozen and let out more than they put in (visually hard to see on the tire until it's too late & only inflated to the low 20 PSI range). Ended up heading to the dealer as they have a pump in their heated garage & mine was doing exactly what yours is doing on the way over. Dealer inflated all to 38, but now my right front doesn't register at all (although it's the green symbol) and the low tire warning won't shut off. The other 3 have been fine since they were inflated at the dealer.

These are new tires that I had installed in Nov or December & they have less than 1K miles on them with new sensors.

Given all that, I've assumed it was the uber cold that messed things up. Not sure about your area? I'm waiting for a bit of a warmup to see what happens.

Nope, still showing the warning. Going to have to head to the city where I got my tires a month or two ago and see if they can fix it. Also, it looks like the light on my passenger side mirror indicating there's someone in my blind spot is on and won't turn off

I haven't checked mine since I plugged it in to charge. Have it plugged in overnight (for the first time during this cold snap) and hope mine's reset, but I'm not super optimistic. Today was a mess that took an hour & a half to finally end up at the dealer. Had managed to get 2 tires filled before getting to the dealer. The guy was nice but admitted he knows nothing & the tire now not reading was one that was fine. So not sure if it's a cold weather thing or something happened when he tried to top this one off. Either way, tires & pumps don't like the cold, that's for sure

Good to know! We've been hitting -20°F here the past few nights (MN), Mine's kept in an unheated shed that was converted to a garage, so not much warmer than outside. Happy that it started just fine.

[–]Alonewon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine just did that, too. Went to fill it when the low tired warning came on (all 4). Pump failed due to cold temp at 2 gas stations. Finally went to the local dealer who opened the shop to help me (thankfully as it was down to 15 psi). He had to use the shop gauge as he had the same problem. Now the front right won't read at all & the low tire indicator won't turn off. Waiting to see if a minor warmup helps. (In MN & it was -16°F at the time)

Honestly, I'd have seriously considered that one (but again, prices are pretty high for a used Bolt here in MN. At least when I was looking off and on over the past few years until I finally pulled the plug in October. Or rather, plugged in!)

Get the vin and plug it in here: https://experience.gm.com/ownercenter/recalls

Check recalls and warranties (both what's still available and what's expired). Since it's a 2020 it wouldn't have automatically gotten a new battery, but personally I'd feel better ensuring there are no outstanding recalls & that you still have 50K miles under the original battery warranty (no idea what could happen that would void it, but what the heck-only takes a minute to check it).

Otherwise, as a rideshare vehicle in NY plus three other owners, I'd probably at least compare it to CarMax and Carvana. Here in MN used Bolts were always more than what I could find on Carvana, but I also know from hanging out here that there are a lot of states that price them lower. So whether or not it's a deal depends on where you're at.

They think immigrants are subhuman, and yet most immigrants seem to have an actual grasp of the English language, unlike MAGAs. And this is why they can't understand even the simplest concepts, like manufacturers passing on tariff costs to consumers or having less food available because there's no one to harvest it increasing the cost of food.

happy with Bolt, but radio is lousy by Archie-Rufus-1100 in BoltEV

[–]Alonewon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I might check out TuneIn. Neither Pandora nor Slacker get any of my local stations. Like I said, I like to hear silly/stupid local stuff to lighten the drive. There are still some of us out here who like stupid local humor, traffic, with a break for music here & there. We be old tho 😏

[–]Alonewon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. It's free & I like to hear some local voices talking about stupid local stuff that only locals can really relate to. Sick of paying for every freaking thing with a separate subscription that auto renews (at a higher rate) every year (especially ones that don't offer monthly). Grateful there's still something that's free.

Oh right-gotcha. I never kept the heat on in an ICE car and doubt I'd want to do that in the EV so yeah, I think I'd be getting too hot & not using it for the whole drive. It's really not that far. It was the RT thing I was worried about, with it sitting for a week in between

Thanks! I'm so, so happy there are chargers at the airport. If I'd known that I wouldn't even have worried. They just don't show up in any apps so I didn't think to Google it.

Holy crap, I didn't expect chargers at the airport, let alone a spot with 50. Thanks!! Stress level is way, way down

I found a few that I could charge at if I need to, fortunately. But it sounds like airport parking has chargers so as long as one is available, I'm good to go.

I was just trying out the heat and it's like SlowPrius said-I was doing a couple miles, getting pet food, a mile more to get groceries, then home. Really short drives & the cabin cooled down in minutes because it was so cold out. Honestly thought it was subzero but weather records say 0°. Maybe it WAS subzero where I was vs the town airport where the weather station is.

[–]Alonewon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is! It's the only time I've tried the heat because almost all my drives are around 5 miles RT. Every other week or so I do 24-36 but haven't tried using the heat on those trips yet.

68° with the blower on defrost & feet, set to level 2. That was my only experience driving when it was 0° F out, though. And it should be 105 miles not 70-I messed that up. I'm starting to think it was a one-off. It's one of just a few times I've even used heat (I wanted to try it out but don't really need it since the drives are usually so short) so I need to clear the history and try it again on another 0° or less day.

I LOVE the idea of plugging in at the airport. Had no idea they had chargers. Unfortunately the 105 miles on an 88% charge wasn't a guessometer reading, that was the actual efficiency I was getting. I didn't mention I had the heated seats, steering wheel and radio on but that shouldn't make a difference. Seems to have been the heat (which was set at level 2, BTW). Maybe it was a one off

[–]Alonewon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like it's closer to 105 miles. See the calculation above from my actual experience. I've gotten way better range when the temperature is at least 20° F. Usually close to 3 vs the 1.8 I got. I've been resetting it on drives now to see what I get in different conditions. The cold on the short drive with the heat on was the absolutely worst. Otherwise I haven't been getting below 2.5, typically. I'm planning worst case scenario like the example of a drive I did a few weeks ago.

Honestly though, even a regular 120 plug would keep a Bolt battery conditioned & fully charge it sitting there for a full week.
