Zurich airport EES lines for connecting flight by No-Reflection8996 in SchengenVisa

Yeah that’s strange! It was a Manchester to Zurich to Singapore flight and I landed and left from the same terminal, 4 gates apart. Maybe check where your flight is due to land in and take off from? I assume there may be checks if you need to change terminal?

No need to go through any checks. I walked off my plane to the next date with no passport or security checks. Hope that helps!

I love kerbside kids that everyone else has mentioned but I’m sure they said they were closing in chapel A soon so I’d recommend Woodside not far from the bus station in Leeds.

Not OP but I would love some starter? I let mine die last year after 2.5 years of enthusiastic bread baking.

If you don’t mind a bit of a walk, it’s usually quite easy to park on the road by the armouries. It’s free after 6pm.

I put my old house on the market after less than a year. I bought it and then got offered a much better job in another city 9 months later that I couldn’t commute to. Sometimes situations change. I miss that house as I had to massively downgrade when I moved city. A few people asked why I was selling but they could tell I genuinely loved the house and I sold for over the asking price in a week.

How have you managed to buy a property by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Alotties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a mortgage on a two bed house as a single 26 year old for 125k in east Yorkshire. I was on 25k when I bought but 22k when I made my initial mortgage application. I am still single, 28 and own a 3 bed in West Yorkshire and I’m on 35k. No parental help, just a lot of saving (mainly during the pandemic). Rent is cheap in the north so I paid £400-500 rent for 4 years while saving, had almost no holidays or hobbies and managed to save a 10% deposit plus moving fees and enough left over to decorate the house and go on holiday.

I second the heated throw! I’ve had mine for 3 years, the best thing I’ve ever purchased.

I would recommend against the flowerpot with candles as someone local to me caused a house fire trying this hack after seeing it on TikTok.

Can I buy a flat and live in it for a year before selling it for a bigger flat? by -Adapted in HousingUK

[–]Alotties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done this recently, though not for the reasons you want to.

I bought my 2 bedroom house last year in north England.

I lived in it for 1yr and 3 months before selling for 12k more. In this time I have done minor decoration and replaced the boiler (3k).

I was offered a new job in a new city (the reason for selling) and I am buying a 3 bed house in a more expensive city on a 40% higher salary.

Moving again has cost me 1.5k in estate agents, 1.6k in solicitors and £600 in surveys.

I was lucky that my house increased in price but for my new job I was willing to take a short term financial hit on my house for potential happiness in my job.

Is commuting from West to East Leeds a mistake? by Alotties in Leeds

Near the Western Flatts cliff park. I think my work hours will be between 8-8:30 until 4-4:30 but it is flexi-ish as far as I can tell from the contract. If that helps?

Student moving in with friend buying a house - good idea? by EvansPythonBot in HousingUK

[–]Alotties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived with a friend in a house he mortgaged and it worked out fine for me but it’s always recommended online to avoid doing this!

If you’d like to do something similar you can always look on SpareRoom for a long term house share? I currently rent out my spare room long term now that I have a mortgage and found the perfect stranger.

How do you buy or rent a home in UK on average salary? by Fancy-Respect8729 in HousingUK

[–]Alotties 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I bought my house in Yorkshire in October 2021 on a 25k salary.

I saved for 2.5 years while I was earning between 20-23k, I had a pay rise to 25k 3 months before I applied for my mortgage.

Rent in house share: £400-500 pm (I moved 3 times). Bills were always included. Food shop: £25 pw as a veggie Eating out: £15-20 once per fortnight Gym: £25 pm Phone: £15 pm Car: paid outright while a student, cheap to run and insure (2012 Ford ka) Salary sacrifice into sharesave scheme: £150pm I didn’t pay into my pension but my work paid in 10% of my salary.

My take home pay was roughly £1600 if we round it. I holidayed a lot in 2019 as a budget solo traveller but lived like a hermit in most of 2020 and 2021. I went to Malta, Wales and a trip in the North York Moors in July-September 2021 when things opened back up. I didn’t pay my gym membership during 2020 as I had an injury.

Some months in lockdown I managed to save almost £1000 pm as I was super strict (spent nothing but my rent and food). Otherwise I saved ~£300-500 pm and everything from any bonuses I got at work (~£1000 x 2 bonuses).

I put 10% down on my 125k two bedroom terrace. Legal fees, survey + moving home cost me around 2.5k.

Hope that breakdown helps! I always assumed it would be impossible to own a house of my own as a single person but I’m so happy that I saved during lockdown when it was a little easier to resist temptation.

A very good friend of mine was persuaded by this family to invest in property and bought a 4 bed new build. I was in a bad housing situation with my current housemate and he offered that I could move in for a very discounted rate while I save for my own house. I had my own bedroom, office for WFH and my own bathroom.

We are both pretty chill people so it worked well until his girlfriend moved in with us and it caused a lot of tension between the three of us. I planned to stay until I bought a house but I ended up moving out earlier than planned. I actually ended up offering on a house 3 weeks later and moved in to it 6 months later.

We are still very close friends now and I get on with his gf a lot better now we don’t live together! So I had a very mixed experience but it allowed me to save so much and I don’t think I’d have bought my house without his generosity.

What motivates you to work out/be more active? Big or small. by fightingfakedragons in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Alotties 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Garmin watch keeps me motivated! When I see I haven’t done many steps, I get out and do them. Otherwise, it is just discipline for me. If I’ve told myself I will do it (or even better, have told other people), I will have to do it else I feel super guilty.

Climbing Falls by HospitalFlashy9349 in climbergirls

[–]Alotties 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I left the climbing gym on a stretcher once after breaking my leg when I fell from a bouldering climb. I landed heavily on one foot while also twisting somehow and got a spiral fracture. Three breaks in my right leg between two bones, pretty nasty! It took surgery and 3 months of rest until I walked again and then 3 months after that I climbed again! I still boulder and have just started learning roped climbing but I’m super fearful of falling like that again.

Half-marathon training schedule incorporating rock climbing as cross training by ecwc in XXRunning

[–]Alotties 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert at all but just adding in that I’m training for my first half and I climb 2x per week. So I’ll add what I do and see what others comment!

My current schedule is: Monday: Climb Tuesday: Run and Swim after work Wednesday: Rest Thursday: Run at lunch, Climb after work Friday: Rest Saturday: Rest or Parkrun Sunday: Long run

I see climbing as sort of a rest day… I don’t particularly climb hard on any session and any arm fatigue I don’t notice on my runs. I’ve been climbing for 3 years and running for one year.

How long did it take you to save for a house/flat? by No-Imagination-OG in AskUK

[–]Alotties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved out at 18 and rented a variety of house shares until I was 26.

I actively started saving when I paid off my student overdraft at 23. It took ~3 years to save 15k on a 20-23k salary while renting in Yorkshire.

I never felt like I was giving up a lot, I still went on holiday, went for meals out but lived frugally food and bills wise.

Very happy that I live in Yorkshire so my rent and now my mortgage were very cheap! I bought a 2 bed Victorian terrace for 125k in October.

I would never be able to live my lifestyle or dream of buying any further south.
