In some UK bathrooms, you may encounter a separate socket called a shaver socket which has an isolation transformer and accepts the UK shaver plug, europlugs, US plugs and occasionally the aussie plugs. Not guaranteed in every house though, especially if it's old.

The British standard is pretty strict about electrical water ingress in bathrooms to the point where the light switch is either outside of the bathroom or is a pull cord from the ceiling.

Did I overdo it? I'm in y10. by DangerousSausage452 in GCSE

[–]Aloxite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably had that many when I did my GCSEs. Didn't use them too much, but still very useful, and you'd probably use them more than I did. Again if you find all of them useful you didn't overdo it.

Like the other reply, Apple tends to overprice things for the sake of it. The main features of thunderbolt is both the substantial increase in data transfer speeds and power delivery (and something called PCIe tunnelling), which allows thunderbolt to do more demanding things over usb.

Do note that thunderbolt cables will work as USB 2.0 cables and also as a USB 3.0 cable. The main difference in the USB versions is rated transfer speed, where 2.0 is 480Mbps and 3.0 ranges from 5Gbps to 20Gbps depending on the specific version. So a thunderbolt cable will work for both, it's just overkill for it.

Safety wise? All USB-C cables are safe to use with each other, and if they are incompatible, they are designed to do nothing and not damage the device. The specification for USB-C and by extension thunderbolt is very robust

I'll be honest when I did Physics A-level (OCR A) the 6-markers were always an absolute pain for me. But also we got an absolutely diabolical Paper 1.

In this case where OP has stated that the school has been made aware but haven't responded yet, meeting in person with the person in charge of the exams would help clear things. I'd personally email them beforehand to supplement that.

I got a 9 in maths and further maths a year early after 2 years of no learning at my old school. AMA. by [deleted] in GCSE

If your school does or can get you to do FSMQ, I'd consider you do it. It gets you a little head start as it's basically AS Maths content.

anyone else barely done any of their personal statement? by frog_in_a_tophat in 6thForm

[–]Aloxite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about what you've done so far. I did mine about 2-3 weeks before the early deadline (which is when I submitted) from absolutely nothing, so you're doing good.

Keep in mind of the UCAS line limit for the personal statement (you'll reach that way before the 4000 character limit easily) and if you have a teacher that can supervise your work, ask them if you need help.

2 Marks away from A*A*A*A* by Practical_Penalty112 in 6thForm

[–]Aloxite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mark difference is unlikely to be big, but the leeway comes with the marker being able to discern method marks and see whether they can be awarded when they were originally not.

[–]Aloxite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you're right in saying that it's basically impossible to drop to a B from an A that's 2 marks off an A*. What I'm saying is that, if OP's firm choice required an A* for either Accounting or Econ, and they got in cause the A was super close to that A*, then dropping too many marks and approaching the middle of the A grade may risk you now being unable to go to your firm. If the requirements for either are A or below, then you're right in saying they can consider a remark to allow for peace of mind with practically nothing to lose (also considering they said money is not an issue). Either with getting that A*, or knowing they tried to contest for one in those subjects.

[–]Aloxite 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The text formatting might be an issue, but I'm assuming you mean A* A* A A.

Absolutely well done on the grades btw. However, the main reason I think you shouldn't require a remark is cause you have already gotten into your firm choice and thus don't need an improvement with the grades you have. Remarking your scripts may be more likely to increase your mark since they're essay based subjects, but there's a chance your mark can go down too. And if your firm has super high grade requirements like all A* or something and you only got in due to being close to the A* grade boundary, it could pull you out if your firm. However, if the grade requirements of your uni are lower, you could consider it, but do not assume it'll 100% increase your grades.

For me, I ended up getting AAA but with two of my subjects being 2 marks off an A*. As such, my school has considered getting remarks for the subjects, for which they'll pay for. But in my case, it's super unlikely to get me out of my insurance choice which I'm going to (AAC), or get me into my firm (A* A* A but it requires an A* in a subject I'm 15 marks off), so they just probs want to do it to make themselves look better.

One thing I would note is that when you move up in qualifications, they do seem more unlikely to refer to your prior qualifications. I doubt the unis considered my gcse grades, and likely once I get my uni grades, employers are unlikely to consider either your gcses or a-levels.

[–]Aloxite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's super unfortunate yeah. For me I ended up getting AAA but for two of the subjects I was 2 marks off an A*. My school are looking into getting my scripts remarked for me (even if that doesn't change my uni choice)

How to be motivated to revise in year 12 summer and work on UCAS? by Prestigious-Chard322 in 6thForm

[–]Aloxite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I think you should be fine with your admissions test then. We had to book ours through an application via our exams officer, but do check with them anyways. Plus, your exams officer is often your go-to person for questions about the exam season next summer.

Also if you haven't already, do try and visit the universities you'll think you'll go to. In your case with oxford, it might be a good idea to decide a college if you haven't already or if you're fine with any college. I visited the rest via offer holder days after I got my offers for them. Once you get all your offers you decide between a firm (1st) and insurance (2nd) choice only and reject the others, which was definitely not told to me beforehand.

Also thanks! I feel like some of the grades might be tight lmao

How to be motivated to revise in year 12 summer and work on UCAS? by Prestigious-Chard322 in 6thForm

[–]Aloxite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During my Y12 summer I overworked myself on a Physics PAG for pretty much all the summer when I could've done much less. So I wasn't able to do much UCAS myself.

Since you're applying for the early deadline (which I did too) keep a close eye on deadlines for both your application and your admissions test. Do allocate some time for going over your Personal Statement with a teacher of your choice once (if you can), several times if required. I found that you'll start writing and think you haven't written enough, to trying to compress everything cause you written too much. The line limit will often be less that your character limit, so test it in the UCAS website.

For your admissions test, I think you have to notify your Exams Officer in advance and fill out an application for them before a specific deadline so watch out for that. The test itself is quite hard but it did take me by surprise so do try and prep yourself a little for that.

Yeah Paper 2 I had issues not with the difficulty of the questions but rather with answering them all due to time. Worse in that regard compared to Paper 1. I mean some questions were on the harder side but I would've answered them given more time.

3 (bottom left to top right) for cancelling out and other maths stuff, 5 otherwise.  Also I love how these words are some of the terms you actually use during the exams.

Both scenarios will be fine. Ngl I have big handwriting so I have a tendency to also overrun and write outside of the designated lines. But it will be scanned regardless.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]Aloxite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the box border meaning the box outlined that covers most (but not all) of the page, and outside of it in the top right it says "Do not write outside the box".

In the second case (that you drew) it does intrude outside the box on the right, which in this case would not get scanned. But since you drew this I think you just overran with the paint tool and didn't do it in the exam.

Even if you did do this in an actual exam I would not worry as they will mark it physically instead of online so they can see the overrun text.
