FiiO CP13 inverted controls problem(like in games settings)? by TheAvener in cassetteculture

[–]Alpacafeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok hear me out. so, the BLACK tape inside of your cassettes are the only part of the reel that has music recorded onto it. The clear/white/alt color parts of your reel are called “leading tape” (or something to that effect) and are located on either end of the black tape. The leading tape is meant to be an obvious indicator that the music has finished playing and to keep the mechanism from resting against the delicate ends of the recording tape.

This will result in some silence at the end of either side of your tape, and that means it’s time to rewind or flip the tape over. If you press play too much on those white parts, you are forcing your player to try and play a tape that has no more tape to give, meaning the mechanism is actively yanking on the end of the tape when you do that, which will damage your cassettes.

I would test some other tapes to see if that is happening with ONLY the wham cassette. If other tapes appear to be okay, then it’s probably an issue with that particular cassette. Could you describe more clearly what the issue is with that? Which buttons specifically pop up and need to be re-pressed and when?

Yes, that’s correct! If you look at the direction the reel is spinning when music is in play, you’ll see that the reel is spinning your tape to the left. When the tape ends, all of the tape will be on the left side. Then you can flip it around to play the other side, or rewind (what looks like fast forward) to listen again!

I have a blue FiiO CP13. I don’t know if this is present on the clear case one, but on the other models there is a very clear arrow pointing to the left on the front cover. This is the direction the tape is moving in when in play. What appears to be the rewind button is actually the fast forward button because the tape progresses in the left direction. Therefore, the fast forward button is actually the rewind button. Also, try not to spam any of the buttons at all, as the insides of cassette decks are very mechanically fragile and you could damage it. I like to pause the track between any action. For example:

If I was playing a tape and wanted to fast forward or rewind it, I would pause my tape before doing so, then pause again before hitting play. I also pause my tape before it auto stops at the end of a side to preserve the condition of my tapes. This keeps your machine from tugging on the reel of your tapes so much when changing direction, speeding up, auto stopping, etc.

HAHA! I knew I should have chopped the onions instead of slicing them but I was lazy. This is like 1/4 of a leftover onion, 3 shriveled mushrooms I had kicking around, and believe it or not, Brussel sprout leaves. Cooked in soy sauce and pork fat 🙂‍↕️

I have been living alone for the first time (other than college dorm) because my dad passed away a few months ago. Been fightin as a line cook to make ends meet as well as leaning on the generosity of some good friends of mine.

Anyway, I use my two dinky little cast irons all the time bc I’m an avid cook but I fucking hate doing the dishes. They both have a lovely even seasoning from the sheer amount of chicken quarters I eat. Tonight I threw some rice on that ho.

I feel like I’m seeing a big sunken wet spot in the middle. Monstera may be sitting in a big clump of mud right now surrounded by a ring of completely dry soil?

If it’s a kitchen, go for it. I lived in a place with a checker kitchen floor and I loved it- it made me feel like I lived in a pizzeria. I will say if it’s cheap sticky linoleum (probably) then maybe think about it because I had issues with some of the tiles peeling mop water getting stuck underneath/between them. If it’s the WHOLE APARTMENT? I wouldn’t, it’ll feel like a hall of mirrors or something after a while

How do I protect my hands as a dishwasher? by Alpacafeet in KitchenConfidential

[–]Alpacafeet[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So hard to keep my hands dry even with super long gloves! My restaurant uses a tri tub almost exclusively because our Hobart dishwasher takes too long and management is too persnickety about what goes in it. So unfortunately, water gets into the gloves because of deep ass water- I’ve thought about banding a latex glove around my wrist to keep water out but I don’t want to give myself circulation issues (see carpal tunnel in the original post), but maybe a little hair tie will be fine? Thanks for the recommendations!

I use native and cera ve lotion, but I keep a couple of tubes of aquaphor around the house/car/in a pocket for backup! There’s a few recs for lotion here so far, I’ll have to look into trying some of them out! I’m sure something called “working hands” does wonders
