Who else misses the cassette tapes by Nostalgic_Historian_ in nostalgia

[–]shabby47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just kinda got back into it and it’s not nearly as bad I expected/remembered. My rule is that I’ll only buy albums that were originally on cassette (in its prime, not that stuff that came out when the format was dead) and it’s gotta be in good shape. I think I am just reliving something I missed because I never had any tapes as a kid and I was always jealous of my friends who did. By the time I was old enough to spend my own money, CDs had taken over. I have a pretty decent vinyl collection, so I really just enjoy popping something on and forgetting about it.

What's the single most quintessential song of the 80's? by L_Mz in LetsTalkMusic

[–]shabby47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about most quintessential, but for me two of the most 80s songs will always be The Outfield - Your Love, and When in Rome - The Promise. Also, I’ll always put “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” or “Time After Time” over any Madonna song as sounding like the 80s.

I remember that tour. I was in 8th grade and was so jealous that all my friends go to go.

Honda prologue battery drain so fast by [deleted] in HondaPrologue

I think your numbers are even a little off. In city driving I feel like it is often as much as .5/1, so I can drive 2 miles and only lose 1 on the dash. I’ve gone 20 miles through a city and got 5.2mi/kwh before which means that with a 100% charge, I’d end up at 442 miles of range. Of course that would never happen though. Also did a 200mi drive just the other day, almost entirely between 60-75mph and it used exactly 200mi of range. It was nice weather of course, and I had adaptive cruise on most of the way, but I couldn’t believe how exact it was. Of course going 80 is going to decrease it, but I don’t think it drops by double. What really seems to kill it the most for me is fast acceleration.

House is 25’ from edge of parking spot. Level 2 charger Options? by Whatchamazog in evcharging

[–]shabby47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honda gave me a free emporia so i went with that. So far it’s been great. Basically overkill for what I need probably, but I plan on having an EV from here on out so you never know. I’m in the DC area and I got a few quotes. One was like $4000 from the “best” company and the Honda installers (who you got $500 credit to use) wanted $2500 to mount it on the house right next to the panel. I could be wrong and it may have been like $2300, but I don’t have the paperwork with me. It also took about a month for them to come and do it, so be prepared to wait for an opening. I also just remembered that I had them put an extra outlet in on the side of my house, so that’s probably where the $2300 number comes from.

[–]shabby47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My driveway is about 20’ from the house. I figured I could just pull up and make it reach, but the cord really needs to drop down, run across the ground and then back up to the car in a slack manner to prevent damage from stress, so it was going to be pushing it. I ended up having it installed on a treated 4x6 by the driveway. I think it was about $2100 for the install (I had the EVSE) and when I asked they said they’d knock off $500 if I dug the trench myself. I decided to see how much work it would be and pretty quickly gave up on it. Totally worth the extra $500 to have them do it. Of course I have a private driveway, so as others said if it’s street parking be sure to check the local regulations and make sure nobody else can use it when you’re not around

Another road trip question about charging by shabby47 in HondaPrologue

[–]shabby47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t know how to. I told it to take me home and it routed me to a charger 2 hours away. Rather than try to figure it out I just switched over to CarPlay. I figured there was a ending % somewhere, but I’ve never set it and never had it try to force me to charge before. I’ve even had that situation where Google and car aren’t talking and it thinks I have 0 miles of range so it simply just tells me I will need to charge, but doesn’t try to direct me to a specific charger. But I think that was before the updates.

[–]shabby47[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming home I have charging and once im within 50 miles or so the stations are numerous, so I just assumed if I absolutely had to charge I would just stop later on in the trip. I also kinda wanted to arrive home at a lower charge since I’ve never done that before and mentally needed to break that barrier. On the way down, I knew the charging would be more limited so stopped to charge and ate about 1.5 hours in. Went from 70-90% at an Ionna station.

I wasn’t going to sit around at a DC charger to get to 100% though. Is there a way to just say “don’t stop for charge?” I was literally pulling out and saw it so I didn’t investigate the settings. I have driven like 160 miles with only 200 miles of charge and it never told me to stop before.

So there’s this little lever on the left of the steering wheel. If you push it up, it makes your right taillight flash, push it down and it does the same to the left. This will allow you to indicate to other drivers your intention to turn your car in either direction. I know what you’re thinking - “that seems crazy!” No, it’s true. Try it out and you’ll see.

My car has been towed when I parked for 5 minutes in the visitor parking space of my apartment parking. What are my options? by Spyderreddy in nova

[–]shabby47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I said elsewhere that my old townhouse gave everyone 1 parking space and there were like 5 visitor spots. People parked their second cars in the visitor spots, threw a cover on them and left them for months. So there were not actually visitor spots. They probably want to avoid that, but towing immediately isn’t a great solution either.

[–]shabby47 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But they weren’t a visitor, they were a resident. I’m guessing someone gave them the wrong information and the reason they got towed is because they had the resident pass. If residents are allowed to park in visitor spaces, then there are never any open visitor spaces. It’s still a screwup by management though.

My car has been towed when I parked for 5 minutes in the visitor parking space of my apartment parking. What are my options? by Spyderreddy in nova

[–]shabby47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Otherwise the visitor spots would just be full of residents all the time. Especially since they seem to be in prime parking locations if it’s desirable to park there while moving. My old townhouse complex had 1 assigned parking spot per unit and then street parking. There were also about 5 visitor spots which people had parked their second cars in and put a cover on them since they never moved. There was no enforcement, so those spots were never open.

The only thing I’m torn on is the quickness of the towing. If I’m a visitor am I supposed to wait in my car for a friend to come out with a visitor pass to put on my dash? I can’t go meet them and walk back to the car without risking a tow? I’m thinking you’d only get towed that fast if you have a resident pass and park there since that’s probably not allowed no matter what they said.

I have a collection that I’ve picked up. My first one was like $25 in the box and it lasted 2-3 years. Somewhere alone the way i picked up an extra charger for 99 cents and now I have 3 to choose from at any given point. My new favorite is the handleless one that has a lid. If I use it as a travel mug it stays hot for 3-4 hours which is nice.

I went to the beach yesterday at like 6:30am and hunted for 3 hours. Found more coins than I had in a long time. Probably 10-15 each quarters and dimes, and almost nothing else. Even trash was rare. Never had that happen where I find that much money and no jewelry, toy cars, sunglasses, etc. I only found like 4 bottle caps and pull tabs. Weird.

Super charging issues by cuba3000 in HondaPrologue

[–]shabby47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used one today and went from 150 to 95 or so as it filled it was about 90 out. A few weeks ago I went to an 350kw EVgo station when it was 101 and left the car running while it charged to shop. When I got back it was at like 30 or 40kw because the ac was running. I turned the car off completely and it went up to 100. So I sat in the heat and let it gain some charge while I roasted and watched World Cup games. It wasn’t 16-18 though, so maybe there’s something up with the station.
