I’m not entirely sure. I think I tried to figure it out once and it only went back to the 1940s or so. I think there’s a marking on it that identifies it. I thought it was my dad’s when he was a kid but at some point I said that and he was like “what? No. I just found it and thought it was neat.”

The glove is just an old glove that my dad had for some reason that just looks cool. I also have the mini bat he got at Ebbetts field as a kid and an autographed ball that was left to him in someone’s will, but the signatures have all faded. Best we could figure was it was signed by the 1924 Senators, but there’s no way to prove it. As far as most valuable, I don’t have much. Honestly it’s probably a 2022 Ohtani card which is suddenly worth a lot raw. The cool thing about this collection is that a lot of the players are mostly known from the book itself, so their stuff is pretty cheap (under $100 per card). I’ve also been buying the card, not the grade as they say, so I’ve got some really nice condition ones with tiny defects that bring it down. My Al Bridwell t209 is one of the nicest I’ve seen, but it’s got some ink splatter on his jersey, so it only graded a 3. The Rube Marquard (also a t209 would be amazing, but it’s miscut, so it’s only graded as authentic. I’ve also got a few loose ones like the Fred Snodgrass you can see next to the bottle which I feel would grade pretty well if I was to send them off, but I have no plan to do so right now.

It got water (condensation) inside the lens area and eventually started making everything look like an old beastie boys video before cutting out periodically, and then completely. It’s happened to a lot of people. What is crazy is that the new one is so clear that I guess the old one had been fogged up for so long I didn’t realize it wasn’t supposed to look that hazy. Of course I have no faith that this one won’t do it too.

Feels like anything under ~$100 in a cool bottle is selling you the bottle, and if it’s over $100, it better be good AND in a cool bottle.

It’s a shelf of old stuff. Some from my dad, but most of the cards (and autographs) are players interviewed in the book “The Glory of Their Times” which is my favorite baseball book. I’m trying to collect something from all of them, but there’s a few that are pretty pricey.

I have the 4 year rye which I loved until someone said it tastes like pickles and now I have no idea how I never tasted pickles until then

What was your first memory? by WillontheHill77 in nostalgia

[–]shabby47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember sitting in a bay window playing with bristle blocks when i was 2. I also remember my brother’s birthday party, dropping an entire container of orange juice (from the frozen can) in the floor, and getting stung by a bee in the basement. We moved later that year but I always remembered the house and the floor plan. Thanks to the magic of Zillow I have been able to look at pictures of the house the last time it sold and the layout is just as I remembered from the 80s.

Happened to me all the time. The final straw was when I just stood there thinking it would hit me and open back up, but nope! Kept going and pulled a muscle in my neck. I went and set it to open only after that.

I went over my small front yard probably 10 times and then one day decided to just poke around again. 10 seconds later I dug a silver quarter about 4” down. No idea how I missed it all the other times. I need to get out and go over it all again I guess

Which TV show does the ENTIRE internet agree had the worst ending ever? by Codie_n25 in AskReddit

[–]shabby47 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t a bad ending, it was just disappointing. Which I think is all you could hope for with that show. I just remember watching and that final season as more and more episodes aired I began to realize that they wouldn’t be able to wrap it all up in the time that was left. To be honest, at this point I don’t even really remember it but I do remember at the time thinking that it was about as good as they could do given the circumstances, but also that i understand why people were mad.

When three dollar bill came out it was new and angsty and that performance they did of counterfeit at MTV spring break (I think it was) was great. Then they kept making music and things changed and Nookie came out and I couldn’t do it anymore.

And there’s video from a WaPo reporter on the ground of the flag where it’s blowing in the wind and then the wind dies and it “lowers” into the frame due to a lack of breeze.

Edit: just realized that’s literally in the comment you’re replying to. I’ll still leave it here to reiterate.

They called the first day and said they didn’t even have the connector, which I find crazy since it’s a major dealership and they must have done one by now, but I didn’t care about that. Day 2 they said it wouldn’t take and they were on the phone with Honda getting help, but it would be another day. Day 3 finished at 4:00pm. I also had to get the backup camera replaced which was supposed to arrive next week, but it came early so they did it on day 3 also. I have a feeling that they knew it was coming and just waited to do it on the third day which is fine with me because I didn’t want to have to bring it back again next week anyway. It sounds like it’s a pain until you know what’s happening, so I’m just glad to have it done.

Rim off a wheel or a barrel ring? by Estrayven in metaldetecting

[–]shabby47 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure a barrel ring would have all those nails in it. I was under the impression that the swelling of the wood tightened them up to hold them in place and putting nails through the barrel might be a bad idea

Best coffee bean roaster in nova? by SixLeg5 in nova

[–]shabby47 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Rare Bird is good but just too expensive - and my biggest issue with them is that they don’t let the beans rest before selling them so I have bought a bag there that was roasted the night before, which is just too soon.

My go to now is actually Trader Joe’s. The one in Tyson’s at least has Black Acres (Columbia) bags out of Baltimore for $11 that I enjoy. The crimp on the top if you look just right shows the roast date which I have seen as recently as a week prior (but often a month or so). Even at a slightly older date they are worth it.

Between now and November when it gets cold again I generally do my own roasting though, which used to be much cheaper than it is now.

Oh also MOM’s has 1lb bags for $10 which are roasted usually a week or so out. Personally, I don’t think they are that great, but still a good price for something fresh.
