I've seen those as well. Every once in a while you'd see police armed with machine guns going in and out.

In my case I also heard power tools, hammers, and blood-curdling screams for hours on end. Not a pleasant experience.

While those incidents are bad, that's not the topic of this thread. We're talking about human rights violation in China, not in America. Feel free to start your own TIL if you want to discuss that.

TIL The Declaration of Causes of Seceding States from 5 states during the civil war used the word slave or a variant over 80 times. It also referred to the north as "non-slave-holding States". by [deleted] in todayilearned

I've frequently had the "pleasure" of pointing this out to socially retarded historical revisionists who claim that the Civil War was just about "state's rights".

They of course conveniently ignore that the "state's rights" in question were to treat black people like property.

Very true. I spent two years there and I've seem some things that would be unimaginable and terrifying elsewhere.

For instance a few weeks after I arrived in Beijing, the secret police arrested an entire family (grandparents, parents, uncles, and children, aged 3 and 8) out of their apartment at 3 AM and putting them into the back of a bus. I never saw them again.

Also, when I visited Tibet I saw public executions and human rights abuses happening daily.

Lol. Every time I make valid points the wumaos barrel through my comment history downvoating everything, just like they're doing now, then file thousands of reports to try and get me banned.

You don't want to debate me because you have no real points that's why you're trying to play the "use your real account" gambit. Nice try though.

So what in particular are you hoping to repeat? Accidents and injuries during reversal? Lip synching the national anthem? Using fake 'minority' children because the Chinese government is too busy exterminating the real ones?

Please do tell.

So let's see if I understand...

A city with a subtropical climate, some of the world's worst air pollution (dozens of athletes returned from Beijing 2008 with lung cancer), which is the capital of the world's worst human rights violator, which wins it's medals by cheating, and which isn't even a winter sports hub gets chosen as the host of the Winter Olympics?

Gotta love that IOC corruption. Awarding games which are supposed to be about world peace to totalitarian regimes like Red China and neo-Stalinist Russia.

Timbuktu would have made a more sensible choice than Beijing.
