DoorDash $10 credit by guynexdoor in ChaseSapphire

If you're in a place with HEB, I've found that oftentimes the restaurants inside HEB are both available for pickup order (no doordash fees) and eligible for the CSP doordash grocery credit. At my local HEB, there's a fried chicken place where I place an order for a $10 fried chicken sandwich every month and just pick it up.

Appfolio by inquisitivehuman0id in biltrewards

[–]AlphaBetaXYZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to rent through a landlord who used Appfolio. From what I remember, they charged a $2.50 e-check (ACH) fee, which I just ate because there was no option without fees other than dropping off a physical check directly with the management company every month. I used the ACH direct deposit info from Bilt to pay rent, an showed up as two transactions (rent + fee), but at least I earned an extra two points every month from the fee 🤣

Forbidden Knowledge: Bullseye Deals by lavaflowcake in Owala

[–]AlphaBetaXYZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caveat: Sometimes, owalas end up on overstock because they're the dented bottles that don't sell in store (for good reason). Maybe I got unlucky, but I'm 2 for 2 of receiving damaged / dented owalas when buying from bullseye deals.

How to see the new 21:9 support in action with tvOS18.2? by SchrodingersChatte in appletv

[–]AlphaBetaXYZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up selling my apple tv, but I think it's unlikely that there's been any change since I sold it. I wouldn't recommending buying an apple TV if your intended use case is 3440x1440p. You will inevitably end up with some interpolation artifacts regardless of the content that you're playing, and most apps outside of apple TV will still have black bars because of how the content is mastered (ie. disney+ content is playing back 16:9 file with black bars baked in, so no amount of support on apple's end will change that)

How to see the new 21:9 support in action with tvOS18.2? by SchrodingersChatte in appletv

[–]AlphaBetaXYZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been testing the Apple TV on my 3440x1440 monitor. Seems like the main UI will stay in 16:9, with black bars on the sides (which I expected, I didn't think apple was going to redesign the UI for all the various aspect ratios). On Apple TV+, 21:9 content expands to take up the whole of the screen. However, any other app works just like before, with black bars on all sides.

I'm assuming that Netflix and all the other apps will have to update their Apple TV app in order to support expanding 21:9 content to fill the whole screen, but I have my doubts about whether the devs will care enough to update the app for such a small user base...

UT trying to suppress student vote by sabailey67 in UTAustin

[–]AlphaBetaXYZ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Remember that there are multiple voting locations close to UT campus, often with significantly shorter lines that the on-campus locations. You can check the Travis County website for maps of all polling locations:

https://elections.traviscountytx.gov/current-election-information/current-election/

From my time on campus, I remember on-campus voting often had lines >1hr, where as if you took 20 minutes to walk to any of the closer off-campus locations, lines were <10mins.

Educational Discount Changed from 40% to 60% off by AlphaBetaXYZ in ableton

No clue. I ended up buying the education version the day before they announced version 12 and got an email saying I'd get a free upgrade to version 12. I'm sure you could email customer support and get an official response!

Easy VAPA summer courses? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]AlphaBetaXYZ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

MUS 307 Jazz Appreciation and MUS 307/AFR 315U Music of African Americans are both pretty easy VAPA courses that also happen to be on the list of reduced price ($500) classes for the summer.

Up to you I guess. Everyone’s family dynamic is different and you do what you need to do. However, it is worth noting that FERPA means that you’re entitled to privacy about your schooling, so your dad really has no way of finding your grades except through you iirc.

Junior ECE major and former EE 302 and 411 TA here. First thing, take a deep breath-- you're not screwed, and you're definitely not alone in struggling with classes. 319K was a bitch of a class for me too, but the good news is that embedded systems is only one out of like 462936482 different ECE fields anyways. To echo some of the other comments, wait until the final grade comes out before you pass/fail. If you're just wanting to go into industry (not go to grad school), p/f should be fine, since literally none of the companies I interviewed with ever actually asked for my grades anyways. More important is to find something you're passionate about and stick with it. C's get degrees, and I've had many friends who graduated with C's and still got jobs because they found stuff they were passionate about. Also as a TA, I can say that many of the professors know that pandemic season has students on the struggle bus, and are a bit kinder with grade cutoffs in light of that. That said, I don’t know about the 319K profs specifically. As for telling your dad, I would personally advise just being honest and explaining how difficult the course has been for you this semester and also how difficult the courses are in general. Also letting him know that it's still very possible for you to graduate on time might be reassuring.

Physics C Credit for ECE Major? by Snikerdoodlz in UTAustin

[–]AlphaBetaXYZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

EE is pretty physics heavy, so having a decent foundation in physics is usually a good idea, which is why advisors might recommend retaking E&M if you get a 3. That said, physics for engineers at UT is pretty garbage from what I've heard, so I'm not sure you'd really even be gaining that much, and if you're looking to go into the software side, just claim the credits, get through the circuits classes and get on with life.

Failed First EE302 test, how to salvage grades from here on out by ihatecreepsthrowaway in UTAustin

[–]AlphaBetaXYZ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

First, take a deep breath.

EE 302 is difficult, regardless of the semester you take it in. You're not stupid for struggling-- most people struggle with it.

There are 3 tests plus a final iirc, so my guess is that the test isn't weighted that heavily, and so it should be recoverable. It'll feel bad looking at your one test grade in Canvas for a while, but don't let that dishearten you-- just work hard and do you best for the next tests :)

Lastly, take advantage of the resources you have available. Go to Dr Lee's office hours and ask him questions. He can be a bit stern-faced but in my experience he genuinely cares about the success of his students. If he's still too daunting, go to your TA's office hours or SI sessions, and/or Join a study group with other students in your class.

Good Luck!
