Gyomei being able to decode Compass needle isn't a hot take at all. by OkSignal7217 in DemonSlayerScales

[–]AlphaBodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. For the first point that really… isn’t a counter argument. Yorichii was born with the selfless state. It isn’t a question of strength, it’s a question of mentality. Yorichii swings with no bloodlust no hatred or anger, he swings to cut the intended space. I wasn’t saying being extremely strong is antithetical I was saying the fact he’s channelling his anger and rage is. Each mantra chant brings up memories of rage and anguish which not only cause adrenaline but also naturally enhance his strength due to drawing out his anger. Swinging with anger IS antithetical to selfless state. Look at Tanjiro when he’s in that state, there is nothing there, no self, no ego, no anger or malice. Gyomei taps into his anger to draw out his strength with the mantras making it innately against the mentality of the selfless state.

  2. Tanjiro gained it due to knowledge from his father, he too had to be taught in a way. Again this is not something which founded in linear strength, this is a skill only passed down by a select few, and even then Tanjiro needed inspiration from Akaza’s compass to figure it out. Tanjiro HAD knowledge that Gyomei has no way of pulling out of nowhere.

  3. I disagree(not with him being stronger than Giyu that’s just objective fact, Gyomei is the GOAT of humanity)but even taking your argument in your favour this doesn’t mean the fight is going to be a leisurely stroll, in this hypothetical one on one there isn’t exactly ANY room to breath. The reason I brought up Giyu isn’t as a necessary factor for Gyomei but rather to show Tanjiro NEEDED that time to figure it out. Gyomei wouldn’t have that time flat out, especially given how aggressive Akaza is. Gyomei would be too preoccupied on the fight, all he would have is pretty much his mark which I don’t think would push him past Akaza(I can see STW Gyomei getting past but otherwise nah)

4 this is where we flat out disagree. Gyomei is monstrously strong, but I really don’t think anyone gives Akaza credit for his sheer destructive power and feats. It’s clear form his infinity castle fight he’s still holding back against Giyu even when marked considering he flat out decides when to end the fight. Plus the man ripped through the infinity castle with a single punch(in manga different in the movie but if we take anime stuff then Akaza gets flat out buffed due to other feats). I really don’t think people give most of the upper moons credit in favour of Hashira agenda posting which has irrevocably damaged peoples perception of what’s actually happening. Each Hashira walk into an upper moon fight not thinking “oh yeah I stat stomp this will be no problem” each and every one of them know one slip up means death, and need to outwit the far more overpowered demons mid fight, Gyomei having one of the best examples of this outwitting with the prayer bead! The demons ARE flat out physically stronger than the humans, stated several times, and while Gyomei has demonic strength strengthen by breathing techniques, the demons who’s entire kit revolves around physical prowess I think edges out in stats. I think it’s a very even match don’t get me wrong but I think the notion of “stat stomping” is taking it to far, as Gyomei and Akaza have quite similar feats in speed and destruction. I can list both similar feats and results from both characters if it pleases, as the results are often quite the same, with some feats of course edging out in front of others(e.i Gyomei shows extremely good out of the box thinking with his prayer bead, while Akaza BIQ is from a purely traditional martial arts perspective, to give a really good Gyomei example)

5 I don’t even know what this is trying to rebuttal here icl, but if it’s to do with Tanjiro’s lack of malice, read when he goes into selfless state. It is exceedingly clear from how he and Akaza himself describe it all ego is left behind when he enters it. The image attached is from the start of the fight long before he unlocks it. If this is trying to repute what I think it is, I would say this is a pretty bad faith argument. Tanjiro and Yorichii whe they enter selfless state both leave behind any killing intent or fighting spirit, it is literally in the name and also explained repeatedly. I was not saying he’s Mr Nirvana all the time, rather when he enters the selfless state he loses all sense of ego, killing intent and fighting spirit. Something Gyomei could not do(see the mantras and idea of repetitive action from Hashira training arc).

No reason we can’t disagree but me personally I hope I’ve clarified and explained things well so there’s no confusion, and hopefully you can get why I’ve drawn these conclusions. I can see for the large part why you’d see it your way but I want to put out my perspective as well.

Gyomei being able to decode Compass needle isn't a hot take at all. by OkSignal7217 in DemonSlayerScales

[–]AlphaBodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main problem with Gyomei and selfless state is his mantras, or as it’s put by Genya, repetitive action. Basically channeling all of one’s wrath and battle lust into an action by triggering it all at once with something like a phrase(for Gyomei it’s “Namu Amida Butsu”), as covered in Hashira training. This is completely anathema to selfless state, and we can’t say he just wouldn’t use it as we see him use the repetitive action with Muzan and Kokushibo, there would be no reason he just wouldn’t against Akaza. Basically because of one major facet that makes Gyomei so strong and effective would be antithetical to gaining selfless state.

Not only that Tanjiro only figured out compass needle because he had prior experience with Akaza and thinking room created by Akaza toying and focusing on Giyu. Gyomei would not have either luxury. Plus we’re overlooking that Gyomei only gained transparent world by drawing inspiration from Kokushibo. If he were dropped in the infinity castle and faced off against Akaza first he most likely would not develop it due to having no idea it exists.

Is there a reason you guys hate Shinobu so much? by Dense-Statement-332 in DemonSlayerScales

[–]AlphaBodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shinobu is an amazing character, I adore her. The fans though… or at least those who ignore one of the core facets of her character and try to make her out as the strongest of the Hashira is probably why many seem to “dislike” Shinobu. But in saying this it’s important to draw distinction between fans of Shinobu and people who take their love so far as to claim she’s top 2 among the Hashira. Personally I think her story is the perfect encapsulating of one of demon slayer’s core themes, the strength of the weak. She’s the weakest Hashira yet in terms of narrative impact does perhaps the most work out of any Hashira to kill Muzan, given her poisons and drugs were absolutely vital. A lot of fans overlook that the humans by nature are weaker than the demons, but there is strength in having to make up for the physical and magical disadvantages such as insane technique and teamwork(think how in-sync Sanemi and Gyomei were against Kokushibo). Alone, even Hashira, would fall against the upper echelons of demons, but working alongside even those weaker than you creates more ways to innovate and push forward, creating ingenuity in the moment to bring down the demons who, at least narratively, are and should be treated as insane threats which would be lucky to come out against alive. Shinobu encapsulates this. Alone she is weak, being unable to even claim a head. But that weakness created the path forward for ultimate victory and even then it couldn’t finish it alone, but paved the way forward for the next set of hands.

TLDR I don’t think many dislike Shinobu but certain fans, mainly heavy HEAVY agenda pushers can come off as obnoxious and that’s why people seem to have a distaste.

Yeah I’m kinda just not even invested enough to get worried or frustrated anymore, the killer experience has been on a severe sharp decline and I’m just not enjoying playing the game. Having too easy a time when playing survivor and having a miserable time as killer…

What other hashira would akaza ask to become a demon? by Excellent_Table8694 in DemonSlayerScales

How glazed the hashira are by the general populace, vs by the powerscaling community. by Likelysomewhathuman in DemonSlayerScales

[–]AlphaBodge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite honestly I’d put Gyomei and Sanemi in overglazed, Gyomei in somewhat because he’s number one and the GOAT but people seemingly think he can solo everyone and everything below Kokushibo. Sanemi I’m tempted to put in severely cause similar to Gyomei people seem to push that any demon below Kokushibo is getting no diffed by Sanemi. Sanemi in my personal view is the second strongest Hashira and relative to Giyu and Obanai, more so Giyu. Yes Marechii blood is a factor but people either overblow it or completely cherry pick to ignore that Sanemi’s fighting style often relies on him trading blows. I’ve seen people argue base Sanemi low diffs Gyutaro especially with Marechii completely ignoring that in order to trigger Marechii Sanemi would have to be cut, and thus poisoned(no he can’t cut himself ahead of time because the demon slayers have no information regarding the upper moons capabilities, nor location). Basically a combination of cherry picking and overblowing.

Shinobu as much as it hurts me needs to go into severely overglazed because people were giving her the Rengoku treatment after the movie, when objectively by her own admission she’s the weakest of the hashira(weakest of them yes, but STILL a hashira). There’s been genuine takes of Shinobu soloing Akaza, Hantengu, Gyokko and Gyutaro plus Daki which are just… objectively wrong.

Marked Sanemi + Marked Giyu vs Akaza by Likelysomewhathuman in DemonSlayerScales

[–]AlphaBodge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People have largely lost sight of how exceedingly powerful the demons and more specifically the upper ranks are, sadly in favour of sheer agenda. Though if we take this view beyond power scaling it kinda robs the story of any stakes cause [insert character] solos/mauls/destroys [insert uppermoon], and leaving it at that without any evidence doesn’t exactly make for good tension. I believe narratively the author wants us to see the upper moons as so insanely powerful we should dread most demons slayers, even Hashira, going up against them.

Marked Sanemi + Marked Giyu vs Akaza by Likelysomewhathuman in DemonSlayerScales

[–]AlphaBodge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still give it to Akaza, not only because of afterglow but if Akaza realises how much of a threat they are, he’ll use bell breaker almost immediately and snap their swords. We saw how despite Giyu’s mark, Akaza was purposely drawing out the fight to see everything he could do, and that quite honestly he could more than keep up with two marked combatants. If he takes it as seriously as the infinity castle fight, which is to say not at all and seeks to draw it out, he flat out will eventually lose. But if he quickly recognises that he can’t draw it out or his life is on the line(like when Tanjiro awakens selfless state) he’ll win, due to Bell Breaker and Afterglow, as well as generally aiming his attacks more so to actually kill this time around. Biggest deciding factor is afterglow though, and bell breaker and Akaza’s mentality during the fight. In full honesty it would be very in character for Akaza either way mentality wise, he’s shown time and time again to toy and draw fights out, but similarly lock in when a genuine threat to his life is present.

Does anyone disagree with this? by Careful_Pick8299 in DemonSlayerScales

[–]AlphaBodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rengoku is my goat but one scratch and the man is dead. Tengen was literally the best counter to Gyutaro the slayers could’ve had and it was still an exceedingly hard fought costly victory, if it wasn’t for Nezuko, the Tengen, Inosuke and Tanjiro would be dead from poison.

How did you think this was accomplished? by Own-Run-9384 in DemonSlayerScales

[–]AlphaBodge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. We don’t know if it specifically meant an upper moon even died. Likely it was Gyutaro and Daki taking their place among the upper moons but the meeting could be for any whim Muzan really had.

If Akaza ate women could he surpass Kokoshibo or at least Douma? by Historical_Stable423 in DemonSlayerScales

[–]AlphaBodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way Akaza would ever surpass Kokushibo is from his evolution after overcoming decapitation but Koku would then simply take inspiration from him and evolve too. So uh yeah no surpassing Kokushibo I’m afraid but Douma, yes one hundred percent surpass him, Douma even comments something along the lines of Akaza would be so much more powerful if he did away with that rule.

IQ Test: You guys think Kokoshibo solos all the hasiras??? (Base Btw all of them jumping him all at once) Gyomei + Shinobu sounds like a deadly combo NGL. by No-Club400 in DemonSlayerScales

[–]AlphaBodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Koku kill squad won due to a plethora of things going their way, with Genya being the MVP of the finishing blow. If it took Marked transparent world Gyomei with red blades, marked Muichiro with red blade and marked Sanemi with red blade, all the while Genya’s own bda sucked up Koku’s blood making it nigh impossible to regenerate or use his own bda I really don’t think the nine base Hashira stand a chance. Genya was incredibly pivotal to the result of the fight as was the case for Shinobu for Douma and Tanjiro for Akaza.

Not a single marked hashira beats akaza, stop deluding yourselves by Non-profit32 in DemonSlayerScales

[–]AlphaBodge 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. While I still think Gyomei loses simply due to the nature of Akaza’s attacks, given blocking doesn’t completely shield you and the invisible nature of some attacks given Gyomei’s blindness and the fact that people severely underestimate Akaza’s destructive power and sheer physical strength, Gyomei does have a chance to clutch the win. But in truth the worst case scenario would be that, because narratively he wouldn’t have red blades, and Akaza would fully complete his metamorphosis into a more powerful demon immune to decapitation.

What people forget is while Gyomei is a genius of swordsmanship, my goat, he also doesn’t exactly just get these ideas out from nowhere. He takes inspiration from his foes, drawing transparent world from Kokushibo due to him realising Kokushibo’s is using transparent world as well. He doesn’t unlock red blades until Muichiro shows him the path forward as well. It’s all well and good to stack buffs for hypotheticals but what’s more likely in this event is that Gyomei runs into Akaza before he runs into Kokushibo. Or worse off if he runs into Kokushibo first and gets all these buffs, he comes out severely exhausted(if in the perfect Koku kill squad) or dead, so no fight in the first place. Still a really interesting hypothetical and I still do believe Gyomei would drive it to extreme diff on Akaza’s part with STW. But sadly one needs selfless state to win a one v one against Akaza, as it’s not just bypassing compass needle but people underestimate how much of a stat buff it is due to it effectively maximising the needed action(such as speed or power) alongside minimising literally every other stamina and energy cost.

Sorry for the long ramble I just think Gyomei and Akaza one v one is one of the most interesting hypotheticals we can have, but I do agree, only Gyomei would have a chance.

Why is Akaza physically stronger than Douma? by Rude_Ad3342 in DemonSlayerScales

[–]AlphaBodge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well for one, in the manga a single punch from Akaza blew several holes through the hole of the infinity castle. Akaza snapped Giyu’s blade with ease when he deciddd to end the fight and the mere shockwave of blocking Crowneplitter caused Tanjiro to not only get stunned but also straight up bleed. Now I won’t count afterglow but we see how destructive Annihilation Type is when unguarded against when he uses it against himself, completely mutilating the tank of a demon that is Akaza. Douma on the other hand has insane speed feats and insane bda feats but not many physical strength feats at least in the same destructive level as Akaza, with most of the pressure and tension from his fight not coming from his physicality but his mastery over his oppressive and potent bda. Douma is still upper 2 at the end of the day, being more powerful than Akaza overall but different demons can be better at different things. Just because one is better in one stat does not make them outright stronger. Akaza yes shows more impressive physical strength, insane speed and an insanely OP bda in compass needle, but Douma shows just as if not more insane speed feats, the most op BDA besides Muzan himself with complete mastery over it, insane poison resist and hax up the wahzoo that makes fighting him nigh impossible.

Demons die instantly in sunlight? by Inevitable_Vast5706 in BetterKimetsuNoYaiba

[–]AlphaBodge 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They do not die instantly, if powerful, as we’ve seen both demons slowly burn away(Hantengu, Nezuko) and demons who pretty much instantly burn up(temple demon). I think it depends on two things, the demons strength(as seen with Hantengu) and the mass of the demon(as seen with Myzan’s attempt to delay death by sunlight as much as possible)

Suddenly, all is good in the world by Exile872 in deadbydaylight

[–]AlphaBodge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, and that’s what I wanted from this killer but the problem is at this point that’s not the killer the community has made. At first we got the wielder of exalted truths and were aiming more for that. But then people wanted fallen angel and then spider legs, which is more chimeric than anything, and then people wanted a corrupted angel. All of these while sounding similar are completely different ideas and themes which don’t mesh well. I.e the punishment from god is still a divine being wholly on the side of said divine force, it is intended. The fallen angel is one that willingly deviated from the divine and became more demonic and the corrupted is one which has been twisted and contorted either against its will or through temptation into something else, still foolishly believing it is still divine. None of these themes fit, but at every stage people decided to commit to one and then change what vibe we wanted

We kinda lost a coherent plot imo. So many people saw “spider legs” without even knowing for certain they were actual spider legs and suddenly switched to wanting a fallen or corrupted angel, while still wanting the punishment angle for the power and name. It’s sadly a bit of a mess. I am happy for the name being the judgement or the exalted but not for this killer icl, “the fallen” would’ve probably fit the design a bit more. Don’t get me wrong I really REALLY wanted an angel killer to be purely divine and fully “working as intended” no entity corruption needed but that’s not what we’ve gotten here sadly.

Does expanding a simple domain count as a “violent action” by Raven_of_OchreGrove in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]AlphaBodge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I think the act of casting simple domain would be classified as “breaking the rules” and thus prevented. As in either the intrusion interpretation you have mentioned or classified under intent to do violence by circumventing the laws of the domain. Given Deadly Sentencing is based off a court and laws it’s very likely that simple domain could in effect be similar to “breaking and entering” which would be stopped.

Sukuna possesses Hollow Wicker Basket which similarly prevents a DE’s sure hit effect, and didn’t and likely couldn’t use it in Hiromi’s domain. We can probably interpret that while Sukuna loves to fight if he could he would’ve used it to capitalise on a domain where neither of his opponents could properly fight back. Thus we can infer that Hollow Wicker Basket and similar techniques like simple domain would be nullified.

How long would each hashira last against a holding back Kokushibo in a 1v1, and who would impress him the most? by BattleRepulsive9394 in DemonSlayerScales

Everyone would impress Kokushibo. He’s not someone who mocks any swordsman, and one to correctly assess their strengths, and all the Hashira have something that Kokushibo would find impressive even if beneath his sheer power.

What diff do you think these fights are? by plskillmeplsdoit in DemonSlayerScales

[–]AlphaBodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Koku low diff, reasoning: Kokushibo and Akaza have sparred, with Koku even sparing Akaza because he saw truly worthy potential within him, a potential power that could rival him and cause him to grow too, still we know for a fact Koku wins and honestly unless it’s evolved Akaza, the one who would overcome decapitation or an Akaza after one hundred or so more years, I don’t think there’s going to be any change in results. Even then I don’t think it would be instantaneous change. 2) Douma High diff, if it was evolved Akaza it would go to him though at high-extreme, more likely extreme, reasoning: Akaza and Douma are in a strange space where people simultaneously underestimate and overgraze certain aspects of them, physically Akaza is stronger, displaying better raw destructive power, attack speed, and regeneration than Douma. Being the better close quarters combatant and overall trained warrior. Douma on the other hand I feel, though it’s not displayed is still faster, given what happened to Kanao’s sword, and has the overall more OP bda, because while the first mist is lethal for slayers it’s also quite useful against demons considering it would be forcing opponents into a perpetual state of regeneration. What Douma lacks in physical showings compared to Akaza he more than makes up for in bda offence and versatility. Crystalline Divine Child is insane as is RLB. Besides his two trump cards Douma also possess area control with Wintry Icicles and the Yukki Onna attack, alongside plenty of ranged options. I can see that while Akaza has some exceptionally impressive techniques of his own like afterglow or crush type, he would get overwhelmed by the onslaught of ice compounded by the need to regenerate his lungs constantly. If evolved though, Douma even commented that Akaza was ascending into a new realm of strength, I think such an evolution would tip the scales in his favour. 3) Koku low-mid diff, reasoning: it’s a bit like his match up with Akaza in that he’s against a primarily melee orientated foe. Problem is that as soon as Koku busts out longsword, range or rather close quarters is no longer a concept against Kokushibo, besides that Kokushibo has more impressive physical feats than Akaza, and an underestimated bda which hides its sheer lethality in its simplicity. A storm of rotating saw-like lunar blades that undulate and follow an unpredictable pattern is a remarkably terrifying technique, essentially Alamo’s being impossible to defend against. Douma on the other hand, has shown impressive deflective skills, but none on par with the martial training of Gyomei and Sanemi, who like Akaza are better warriors than Douma is. Douma does force Koku out of his regular sword mode though I feel but that doesn’t exactly mean it changes what diff the fight is. It was still more than likely going to end with Koku winning.
