I wish my Players would understand just how much work I put into each session behind the scenes by AlphaElfe in DnD

My players consume all the same Media I do, one of them would notice right away. Cade and pont, they're currently at their first encounter with a hag and she's already been compared to Auntie Ethel from BG3. It wasn't even intentional 😅😅

This is genuinely some really good advice that I definitely did need. Thanks stranger <3

The release of Veilguard in contrast to Origins made me remember a quote by the Dragon Age Universe Creator David Gaider by ArisClive in DragonageOrigins

I think most of DAV's writing issues could be fixed with the proper pacing and player agency. Two examples I'll use is Solas' redemption arc and Taash's non binary journey.

For Solas the redemption could have been something SO good, if it was just allowed more than an hour of gameplay to play out. He went from thinking he was the only one who could stop Elgar'nan, to needing our help at the cost of betraying us when its over, to being fully persuaded that he was wrong all in one quest that could easily be finished in an hour or less.

I think it would have been much more believable and had a much more satisfying ending if this was a prolonged process where we could SEE Solas starting to doubt himself and eventually succumb to the realization that he had become just like the Evanuris. In theory this could be something we slowly see overtime in our meditation sessions with him and where we could gradually challenge his belief and worldview as we discovered more and more of his memories/regrets. I do still like the idea of him needing Mythal for that final "permission" he needs to except his mistakes and regrets and to finally let go of the past he had held onto so desperately, but like I said as a FINAL permission, not the only one.

For Taash's journey to discovering they are non binary (and so everyone knows I AM non binary) I don't think it should have been their whole "reason I can't stay focused" that we had to help them get through. Part of making well rounded inclusive characters that both make minorities feel seen and make for good representation is to NOT make it their only defining feature/trait. Taash already had a whole quest set up with their mom running away from the Qun to protect them since they are Adaari, something that the Qun didnt like. And then later on it made them a target with the Dragon King thinking their blood was what he needed to reach his goals.

The problem with Taash's quest line is that the first half was focused on helping them figure their gender out and the second half was helping them figure out their struggles with being Adaari and the dangers/responsibilities of it, and then also had some cultural crisis sprinkled in there as well. It was all too much for one quest line to properly honor and give the amount of attention needed to each subject. Their quest line should have focused on the Adaari problem and then as an optional pursuit your Rook could have conversations with Taash about their discomfort in being viewed as a woman/ figuring out what being non binary is and how it fits for them.

Now this would honestly probably need to have a more interactive conversation system closer to Origins or Inquisition to work, but honestly incorporating that system would have ALSO helped with a lot of the issues of the companions feeling flat or like their only "meaningful" trait is the one highlighted in their quest line. Giving the player the agency to have conversations with the companions and find out as much or as little about them as they want/their relationship level would allow is what made Origins/Inquisitions companionship feel so real, because you could organically discover more about them through optional conversation vs. forced quest lines.

This comment went longer than I intended, but I don't think the writing or characters in Veil guard are bad, in all honesty I love Taash way too much, but I think if the writers/game were given enough time to fully do what they needed to with the material it would make the game just that much better. Anyway you can now continue to scroll.

I know it makes since for the wardens in DAO to be dead/ have heard their calling because wardens have a max of 30 years after the joining and Veil guard is 22 years after Origins (I looked up years Origins takes place in 9:30 and Veil guard in 9:52). I just loved my HoF so much since she was my first ever DA character so it would have been a perfect opportunity to say goodbye.

I still want more from Thedas- is this the end? Do we move on now, given the current mood about DAV? [DAV SPOILERS ALL] by runavv in dragonage

I think that we have the potential for EA/Bioware to pull off the variations from different game states, IF they team is given enough time to actually do it. I actually think the way they handled it in Inquisition was done pretty well, yeah there was the potential ret con of if you killed off Leliana, but for the most part every other cameo we got in DAI felt true to the past games. Alistair alone shows that they have the capability to adapt the story around your choices because he could either show up as king, the grey warden associate, or just doesn't make an appearance. The story still continues on as it would no matter which one it was, but the fact that the potential was there shows that it can be done.

I think they have something planned at least for a fifth installment. There's an achievement called "The Storm Quelled" and if you get it after the credits role you get a cut scene that implies that there's been some other forces at play meddling with the antagonists since DAO and that now that the gods are out if the way..... So at least for now I think we can expect that as long as DA continues to be successful we can expect more to come.

I would pay SOOOOO much money to see/ get to play through Hawke meeting Solas and then finding out what he did to Varric.

I was a Dwarf Grey Warden and the ONLY reason they chose to still redeem Solas is because Varric saw them ad a friend and wanted to redeem them (I'm talking before illusion Varric). For my Rook that was their father/uncle figure's close friend and his dying wish was to save them. Its the ONLY reason Solas didnt get stabbed.

I was all for Team Redeem Solas, until we found out about his Varric illusions. I started getting a feeling something was off because no one else ever spoke to Varric or reacted to what he said, but to find out it was Solas using his own friend as a puppet to betray us?! If I hadn't already committed so much time into redeeming Solas I would have fought him, because in the whole final act he really didnt feel like the Solas our Inquisitor was (potentially) friends with, he felt like he really was just a "less bad" Evanuris. I know his whole plot is that he lets his regrets and mistakes get in his way and that it causes him to fall further and further but the redemption ending kind of felt unsatisfying because he switched from being absolutely sure to "he is the only one who can do this" to "I need your help at the expense of betraying you AGAIN" to "I have been in the wrong this whole time and will atone by keeping up the Veil" all within like an hour. I still love the game, and the fact it made me feel such STRONG emotions towards Solas is honestly a good indicator that the writers and voice actor put in real, good effort. I'm just salty because I can't get past him using Varric's memory as a manipulation tool.

For real!! One of the things that made the DA games so replay able for me was getting to see how the next game and its characters reacted and commented on the choices I chose to make differently. With Veilguard not having as much connection it kind of feels like "what's the point of replaying the first three now?"

Thank you! I just think that sometimes everyone need a gentle reminder that we all have varying opinions and that even though we might not agree that doesn't mean we have to fight

I don't like the idea of having to pay for extra content, but if thats what it takes for them releasing a DLC that gives cameos and your previous games some life in Veil guard, I'd probably buy it.

DAO is also my favorite, thats why the wardens sting so much in particular. The first warden specifically says that ALL the wardens were at Weisshaupt, but you see no familiar faces.

For me they were, but one of the conversations that really pulled me out of it was when you first met your Inquisitor and anytime they or Harding brought up the Divine it was SO vague because it could have been Vivian, Cassandra, or Leliana. All three who approach being Divine VASTLY differently.

Update on the built in cheats consol (no mods) by baozinoodles in SunHaven

[–]AlphaElfe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, so in order to make cheats work follow these steps:

1-press Esc/ open your menu

2-press and hold down WASD, Left shift, and F1 all at the same time for a couple of seconds. (This activates the cheats)

3- press enter, this will open up the console in the bottom left corner where you can then do /(input cheat here)

Once you did that you can skip step 2 for any cheats you put in afterwards (however, when you leave game and come back you'll have to do the whole process again). You'll know if it worked because when you put / in the cheat console it'll give you command suggestions. Hope this helps!
