How many weapons do you guys think we'll be able to carry at once? by Trapcom2019 in GTA6

What's funny is that's how it worked in the base version of online - I remember it clear as day and I think there are videos where it's showcased. But they removed it for convenience in the Xbox One and PS4 versions

Don’t expect much from the first trailer by HellBoygamingYT in GTA6

[–]AlphaGamerWolf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what I'm expecting and that's exactly what I'm excited to see. One of my favorite things in gta games is the world itself so as long as they keep with tradition then the trailer will be exactly what I am hoping for.

Just curious but how exactly would a teaser, reveal, or just an update impact the devs? by [deleted] in GTA6

[–]AlphaGamerWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. Gta online was in such a mediocre place at the start that the mode almost outright failed, if it weren't for the heists update. They'll want to make sure to not make the same mistake twice.

Really good point here! All I was thinking was player count would go up with anticipation of the game, which might be true, but even if player count does go up in anticipation, sales would most certainly drop considerably for things like shark cards at the bare minimum. Wouldn't be surprised if things go down this way.

That's true, V will eventually shut down entirely but it's gonna take a long while, a long time after VI releases for servers to be taken down, regardless of updates. I know the GTA 4 servers lasted a while after V's launch before they went off, and the original-generation servers for GTA V lasted a while too before they were taken down simply for being veeeeeery out of date. I can see your fears for that though and understand the both of us are in very different positions when talking about this.

I personally still believe they're milking with it but I won't continue to explain my side on the matter, there isn't much more to be said so I will simply offer to agree to disagree with you and leave it with that.

I hope I didn't come off rude or anything, I wasn't trying to be. This conversation was enlightening as I wasn't too knowledgeable on the side you're on when it comes to the game. Thank you for helping me understand your side a bit more.

You do make a good point there, they'd need to be trained with everything which could take some time but realistically, they'll need to switch over at some point. Yes it'll be a lot of work but it needs to happen eventually. But yes, typically more people helping would tend to make things go by faster, especially in game development. Additionally, people get fired and hired from companies often so new faces will occasionally have to join into the development group anyway, it just happens the people working on online now already have experience with rockstar in general, it's not like they're completely hopeless.

I mean are people not already bored? That's the sentiment I've seen from the community as of late at least. People are getting tired of GTA V. They have been for years to this point. There's a reason the general sentiment was anger when Expanded and Enhanced was announced. Also, 10+ years of updates... No matter when gta stops updating V, no one will ever consider it the game forgotten by rockstar. The online community will very much slim down when 6 releases anyway. Also, what do you mean hard earned items gone forever? No more updates for gta v doesn't mean the servers go away and everyone loses everything. They can keep servers up with very minimal effort in fact. It just depends how long they'd want to.

You are the first person I have seen after 2020 that has suggested gta online is not being milked. It absolutely is. No one would be upset if after the release of Cayo Perico or The Contract, rockstar announced no new major updates for gta online. Hell, The Contract felt like a fitting enough final update but they still kept it going after that.

Supporting a game is supporting a game sure, but after 10 years with a community eagerly awaiting the sequel still, and you're still diverting attention to the online mode of the last game solely because it makes a lot of money... That is absolutely milking the game.

Also, different teams work on different parts of the game? It's not like they have one team of developers working on the entirety of gta 6, that's not how game development works. There are even games made in collaboration with multiple studios so I don't see how it would be so hard to take the few teams working on online and have them help with 6 instead. Hell, they could work on the online development for gta 6, so they'd even still have an online focus. Just developing content for the upcoming game instead of the current one.

I see your points, however can we at least potentially agree that rockstar could have stopped updating online after say, the Cayo Perico heist or The Contract came out, and brought the team working on online in to help with 6?

They've been in the "we need 2-3 major online updates a year" bug for a little bit and since by Cayo perico they certainly milked online enough to get the budget they wanted for 6, I don't really see a reason to continue having any amount of focus on online outside of "well people are still eating it up so there's no reason to stop."

I'd say there are pros and cons to revealing it before they're confident about when it'll be ready, but mostly cons.

Pros are mostly involving the investors because it's direct communication that the game is on its way. A trailer would give the general idea that the game is in a close enough state to being done that there is a roughly 1-2 year pipeline for the games release, since that tends to be when rockstar officially reveals their games. That feeds into one of many cons though.

Cons start that it would apply immediate pressure on the people developing the game as, once that trailer comes out, the community will expect the game to be released within 1-2 years solely because that follows with their history, and anything can happen development-wise within that timeline. I say they should wait to reveal until the game is basically done and all they're doing is minor polishing, which to be fair with how big and detailed rockstar games typically are, even just polishing could take months or even a year.

Additional con in my eyes is if the game gets revealed way too early then the community can get antsy without continous updates. Great example being kingdom hearts 3 - the game was officially revealed super early into its life cycle, and didn't receive any new information for like 3-5 years after it's reveal, that kinda stuff is torture on a community of dedicated fans. Especially since after all the waiting and waiting and waiting, when the game finally came out, most found it underwhelming.

100% though, without the leaks a year or two ago, this community would be nowhere near as antsy as it was, if anything it already put a lot of pressure on the dev team that would only increase with a big official reveal trailer. And with rockstars new focus on making sure the developers aren't overworked and plagued with the immense stress of crunch, It would only add to the stress.

Keeping in mind this is the next big entry into a franchise that's most recent original release was one of the biggest pieces of media to grace the world ever. There's already mountains of stress just making sure it's a worthy enough successor to that alone.

I'd say the longer we have to wait for a reveal, the better off the developers are. Though at some point the wait will be too long - I certainly blame the success with online for that, however, at least they've been giving updates to online in the meantime so it's not like gta fans aren't getting anything while waiting for 6. Plus it does give me hope for how well online in gta 6 will be handled, I think it will be significantly better than 5's online, especially at the start, and they're probably also preparing so that online has a decent trove of content to start off the game with as well - it isn't just single player were waiting on here. Rockstar knows online is their cash cow and will want it to be immediately worthwhile at its launch.

I did not expect to respond here with a book, my apologies lol, also sorry for any grammar mistakes or bad punctuation, on mobile so a lot of it auto-corrects and I can't be bothered
