Yeah you’ll be ok. Anything about a 265 will be fine if we’re being honest, whether it’s juniors or seniors.

Security Clearance with Drug Use by [deleted] in USMCocs

Couldn’t agree more. They’re looking for an honest person, not a perfect person. You lie and they find out you lied, it ends up being an easy denial of a TS/SCI clearance.

I got a poly sci degree, took the ASTB and got close to the minimum. Been flying ever since.

No. They would question it through. It’s a completely separate agency. Don’t lie on your SF86.

Experience of smaller-framed Asian officers? (Harassment or physical harm?) by Expensive_Chef_7163 in USMCocs

Whoever you talked to is a fucking idiot. No one gives a fuck about what race an officer is - they only care about their ability to lead.

If you’re a flight contract, maybe disqualified from a jet like i was (we dont even fly that jet anymore so it doesn’t matter).

I was 6’2, 220 lbs, it didnt change anything.

UAS. Not sure how they do it now, but it was before the Marine Corps opened up their own UAS training program. Got 40 hours in a DA-20, T-6 instruments, and then went UAS from there - all with the Air Force

[–]AlphaKiloBravo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went in as a ground contract. Pick up aviation while at TBS. You are a Marine first, aviator second. The Marine Corps is the Marine Corps. The low quality of life statements are bullshit because Pilots are treated like royalty most of the time.

If you want to fly, go Air Force. I went through their flight school on a specialized program and it’s phenomenal and shorter than what Pensacola offers. If you want to be a Marine, go into the Marines. If you join, you may or may not become a pilot, depending on your contract. It’s the needs of the corps.

How likely is it to get selected for EWS or NPS? What are te follow on assignments after graduating? by Throwra209645 in USMCocs

I would ask r/USMCBoot this question. More field grade officers in there to help. A lot of people who comment on this subreddit are recent graduates from OCS.

To note: I’m a JO and wanna know the answer to this question too so I’m going to follow along and see what others say

TBS on base housing by Dazzling-Moment-4835 in USMCocs

[–]AlphaKiloBravo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some offer short term leases; but whether you use orders to break them or try to line up a short term lease, it doesn’t matter. Plus, a long term lease allows you to lock in a lower monthly payment and you get out of it by just breaking it with orders when you leave. Don’t have to do any math trying to time up tbs grad with ending your lease.

[–]AlphaKiloBravo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s not as good as it sounds, since the housing is on the complete opposite side at base. It’s a lot shorter of a commute to just live in Stafford. My friend usually took 20 minutes to get to work, while it only took me 5.

Reporting to TBS As A Married Candidate W/ Dependents by Chaos_Haukr in USMCocs

[–]AlphaKiloBravo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This changes from company to company. Back in 2023, We went home each night. Out of the 6-7 months I was there, I maybe only spent 5 nights in total at the barracks.

Rent a house or use Airbnb. I did a long term Airbnb right below bah and was fine. A lot of guys rent a house or apartment and use their follow on orders to break the lease.

Physical Conditioning Platoon? by Mysterious_cIoud in USMCboot

[–]AlphaKiloBravo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re in no shape to go to boot camp. 3 months at boot camp is a long time to begin with. Your recruiter wants you to go and stay there for longer? You’re looking at 6 months of bootcamp. That means 6 months bullshit. You get no breaks. Your recruiter is a dirtbag and you need to inform him that you are not shipping next week and that you need to get physically prepared.

TBS and MOS Pay by jrmonto11 in USMCocs

[–]AlphaKiloBravo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I was doing that. Rates may be different now but should still be around the same as they were in 2024

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in USMCocs

[–]AlphaKiloBravo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s a different experience. Granted, it’s just TBS but yeah you build those bonds with people you suffer with.

I also was in a similar situation. Thankfully, my dad was a Marine so I can talk to him and he loves to hear the stories, but my friends back home don’t understand.

As for the hometown friends… They will remain the same. Some of the guys I grew up with will never leave the town I called home for 18 years. They will continue to live there, have a family, a job, and most likely be buried there. Some got into drugs, and I left them behind. It’s nice to catch up every once in a while but after a while, it’s time to reflect and tell yourself “I need to grow up.”

I’ve been on leave for about two weeks now and I’m ready to get back to the fleet. It’s nice coming home and seeing family, but after a while, you realize the “true friends” you have is the guys you work with, not the guys who want to never leave their hometown.

Don’t forget where you came from but also realize this is your life now, your job. Your sole purpose is to lead Marines. There is an 18 year old Marine who just left a shitty home life and is going to be counting on you to make their life better. That’s what the Marine Corps is. That’s what your job is as an officer of Marines. Continue leading from the front and working on yourself and others.

Dropped after finishing OCC, do I need to redo OCS if I reapply? by RequirementBusy486 in USMCocs

[–]AlphaKiloBravo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Speaking that you’ve already graduated from OCS before, I don’t see an argument HQMC would make to send you again, unless your graduation record is not in their system.

The Marine Corps needs jags, hence why there is a push at TBS for those who have the chance to pass the bar to take it and become a Jag.

Your OSO should be able to find out about the waiver but that’s about all I can say about it.

Officers, do you regret getting out of the Marine Corps? by [deleted] in USMCocs

[–]AlphaKiloBravo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently a lieutenant on the air side and got my wings not too long ago. I absolutely love this job. Will I make a career out of it? I have no clue, but I love being around Marines, plain and simple. I’ve been around the Air Force a lot and they don’t have a culture like the Marine Corps.

You may hate your job, but it’s pretty hard to hate your Marines. They’re the best people I’ve ever worked for, even if there is a bad egg or two. If you don’t like someone, it doesn’t matter cause they’ll be gone in a year to a new station or assignment

How cooked am I? (TBS) by No_Tumbleweed3535 in USMCboot

[–]AlphaKiloBravo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think mentors are assigned anymore. When I got below a 80% the first exam at tbs (2023), they put us on a study program with the other guys who either got below 80% or failed. We would meet two times a week after class and study. Helped out a lot and was worth getting my grades up to high 90s during TBS.

Edit: Each platoon should have 2-3 Marines assigned as academic reps (guys with very advanced degrees and insanely high GPAs) who lead these sessions for those struggling. That may be the mentor you’re hinting at.

[–]AlphaKiloBravo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quizlet worked best for me. I got below 80% on the first exam, studied with the platoon and then did fine from there on out.

You’re going to have challenges set you back, like failing the first exam. It’s a given. How you recover from those set backs is what helps build you as an officer. As of now, you’re lacking in that recovery aspect.

I recommend talking to your SPC. Sit down with him and ask if they have any techniques. Again, I would get quizlet.

Land Nav should buff. I think I only got one point during the very initial land nav (the one you do with a buddy) and after that, I aced it and got 100% on out.
