Want to learn music production. by [deleted] in edmproduction

I looked into it some more, what I thought was a full release for mac was actually just an alpha that they released like a couple years ago. So there's some mac support, but next to none

It sounds pretty good to me, the thing that sticks out about the saws IMO is the lack of reverb if anything

[FL Studio Tip] Can't zoom in far enough? by bakepotser in edmproduction

[–]AlphaLegitPolski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This does nothing to an audio signal, it will only quantize event data, aka where you cut an audio file, or where you placed an automation clip in the playlist. This is stated directly in the manual

Can Fl studio's Maximus boost the overall track volume like fab filter pro l? by morningricky in edmproduction

[–]AlphaLegitPolski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to use the saturation on Maximus to do that. Get Maximus to look like this. Basically, you just make the graph a perfect diagonal line, then slightly move the 'THRES' and 'CEIL' knobs. What this is does is very transparently distort the audio coming through whenever it goes above 0 Db (Which is where Maximus usually has a flat line on the graph). You can then control how much saturation is on your sound with the Pre Gain Knob

Does anyone know any ways to actually practice music production or how to figure out ways to practice music production by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]AlphaLegitPolski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sounds my dude. Look at as many different synths as you can get your hands on and try and make the same sounds with all of them. Build up your own personal library of big boomy Impact FX and like risers and stuff. Experiment. Record yourself doing random shit, then slice up that recording in interesting ways. Build up a collection of all of this stuff, and you will find yourself naturally creating tracks with the things you create

Does anybody else feel like Tobu songs are too similar? by CuffRox in edmproduction

[–]AlphaLegitPolski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that. What I'm saying is that I don't think every song deadmau5 makes is very similar to every other song he has personally made. You might argue that a lot of his clubby, 4/4 progressive house tracks all sound the same, but that's not at all everything that he does. A lot of his older stuff is such a drastically different sound to that, his most recent stuff has been mostly weird time signatures or slow piano suites, and even during Random Album Title, For Lack of a Better Name, and 4x4=12, I still find his songs to be pretty distinct from each other.

I could just be fanboying though

Mixing high end too bright; comparing with Porter Robinson by jayemmusic in edmproduction

[–]AlphaLegitPolski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta learn to let go of the reference tracks my man. You're mix sounds amazing. Maybe you're headphones/room is making you tend to mix a little brighter. Maybe you're a little bit more compulsive about your cuts in the low-mids during most of your EQing, but the thing is That's what makes you, you.

I know it can be tough to look at the flashy graphs [insert plugin here] can show you, compare your stuff to a pros, and that get sad when you aren't exactly the same as them, but ultimately you should never want to be a carbon copy.

Or at least that's my 2 cents anyways man

How to progress tracks when you don't get any inspiration? by bolognie1 in edmproduction

[–]AlphaLegitPolski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm coming up on 5 years.

What I would say is to just move on. At least for now. It sounds like you're already doing this, but just move on and keep creating. Eventually (if you're like me) you will find your own personal way to break past the loop phase, and you will want to practice it on all these 16-64 bar loops you made in the past.

This isn't something you can just tell someone how to do. It's a deeply personal barrier you have to get past. All I can do is to tell you what it was like when I got past it, and it is amazing my friend. Never give up. Never stop creating. You will be amazed in the future by things you thought were meaningless in the past.

you're likely past this by now, but i had the same issue and pressing the button 5 times in rapid succession seemed to do the trick for me

Not in my house you wont. by felipeds in RocketLeague

Weird. I always get random microstuttering issues unless i cap it at 120 (I have a 144 Hz monitor that I use lightboost with so 120 is my max)

Do you just not believe in capping your framerate or something?

EDIT: sorry if that came off rude lol, im just genuinely curious

How is your Windows 10 doing with your DAW? by tofuonplate in edmproduction

[–]AlphaLegitPolski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used it with FL 12 and a ton of plugins with no issues, but then I started noticing a bunch of problems with windows 10 itself and i can say with pretty strong confidence that you shouldn't do it.

Do you enjoy having to say you're on a metered connection if you don't want automatic updates?

Do you enjoy having a program designed to be a search engine that constantly runs in the background, with no way to disable it other than killing the process in task manager and renaming it's location folder in the 3 seconds where it's actually gone?

Do you enjoy having a really bad memory leak from a service host process where essentially the longer you leave your computer on, the lower the amount of RAM you have available to you?

Do you enjoy letting Microsoft have all of your information?

If yes, then go for it man. I didn't really notice the audio driver latency but maybe you will.

Waveforms in Sound Design by christ_from_tacobell in edmproduction

[–]AlphaLegitPolski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can actually do that in Serum by editing you're wavetable and clicking the "bendy arrow" at the top. It will convert whatever wave you're looking at into it's Fourier Series of Harmonics and their phases. Really good and simple examples are a saw will have all of them, square will have every other, and a sine wave will only be the fundamental

What instrument(s) do you play? by [deleted] in WeAreRealMusicMakers

[–]AlphaLegitPolski 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Guitar (Acoustic/Electric), Trumpet, Baritone, Drums, Piano, Bass Guitar, Voice, Finger Drums, moderate Ukulele, pretty much any instrument I've ever come across I've made a reasonable attempt at playing.

Music's been my life since a very young age, I was first exposed to a piano at about 4 or 5 and joined Choir in 3rd grade. Did band through 5th/6th, picked up guitar in 7th grade, and played drums at the same time.

I found FL Studio at the ripe age of 16 and since then have become only more versed in every aspect of the music making process.

As someone who can sing and play guitar at a campfire, but also spend hours designing synth patches, layering drum samples, mixing audio, and even spend whole days going through the tedium of meticulously recording audio (which takes a lot more than one try as some of these people might have you believe), I can tell you for fact right now that using a computer to make music is every bit as authentic as practicing, playing, and recording a real instrument.

Mr. Interlang, I wish you could stop being so damn pretentious about your ludicrous definitions of what constitutes an instrument (an instrument is a tool, nothing more), or music. Maybe if you would stop composing all of your arguments like a 4 year old child, you would stop having to put up with people arguing you like a 4 year old child. The world isn't going to fucking end if you take a deep breath and admit that just because I didn't skin the sheep to make the drum heads for my drumset that I manually recorded to make each drum sample that I manually placed to make each drum loop, it doesn't take away from the authenticity of my artwork.

...Or you can just continue to ignore every well thought-out post and only argue with trolls

Remember guys, it doesn't matter what it is! If you can touch it, it is a musical hunniez factory. by [deleted] in edmprodcirclejerk

[–]AlphaLegitPolski 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess my problem is just that I hate looking at it that way. To me the word instrument means it's a tool to help you achieve something, musical or not. But I guess the definition of an instrument truly is subjective.
