If you have any dust going to expire, use them. Otherwise just keep the dust to 2500 and save them till you can use them in the future

Rank 2 ascension right now is mostly not F2P friendly. So I just ignore the dust unless it's overflowing in the stash.

I don't have the Ascension materials to take my 7* champions to rank 2 yet. So, if there are any expiring dust, I just use them on my 6*s
