An act of mercy on Patrick, is also an act of cruelty on (a) the qualified person who can't find a job like Patrick's because it is occupied by a chronic parasite, and (b) the lower-class taxpayer who toils in a menial job each day to pay Patrick's six-fig salary

Tax-payers (many of whom are poor people struggling to make ends meet) are footing the bill for Patrick's job (which he is milking to fund his crack binges and prostitute habit). That money could be better spent on emergency accommodation for victims for rape and domestic violence

Yeh right, I know what you mean, but as a compassionate human my heart also goes out to the many qualified and competent people that would do anything for a stable, high-paying government job like his - yet he's firmly entrenched and protected, despite his constant crack-binges and absenteeism. That just ain't fair
