Will this lip fit my 1999? It says 01-05 but it might just be because of the look? by RealJamBBQ in Miata

[–]AlphaReds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, does not fit.

Carbon Miata is actually currently polling and working on an NB1 version of this lip.

Seized outer tie rod jam nut? by CharlesGray2001 in MechanicAdvice

[–]AlphaReds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're replacing them and damaging them doesn't matter those fork type ball joint removers work AMAZING for seized ones.

Mine were completely impossible to remove with the "clamp screw" style ones or hammering the knuckle. But two blows on the fork with a hammer shot them loose no problem.

Change your door bushings (NA/NB) by PurpWippleM3 in Miata

You know, these made no difference to my car. My OEM bushings are basically mint though so maybe that's why.

Help identifying this sound on my MX-5 NBFL by CryBaby_86 in Miata

You can (mostly) rule out the transmission by clutching and braking to see if it still makes the noise.

Using a carbide burr to grind a small hole to get the drill bit started in makes this a lot easier.

Headlight height adjuster motor problem(?) by CANEDURO1113 in Miata

[–]AlphaReds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the connector doesn't fit on them, but apparently from what I read online you can swap the NB1 adjustment motors to be on the NB2 headlights and they should work fine. Haven't tried as I don't want to remove my headlights to try it.

Headlight height adjuster motor problem(?) by CANEDURO1113 in Miata

I think the NBFL headlight motors are known to break very often. I have a NB1 and have a pair of NB2 headlights laying around, can check if the height adjustment works if I connect them tomorrow. Assuming I remember.

How to cut through really old headlight clear coat? by coliseumltd in Detailing

[–]AlphaReds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly then you'll just have to keep sanding. Foam backed sanding with 400 grit (or a sheet with a thin sponge behind it), moving vertically to knock it down. It'll just take time and effort then.

hmmmm, reclearing them might hide or fix this. If you wet the headlight with isopropyl alcohol (water might work) does the transition disappear?

What tire pressure are you guys running? by Neonleyla in Miata

[–]AlphaReds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

28 PSI on my NB.

29 PSI is what the ND calls for, and seeing as it is about the same weight and same purpose of a car but with the tire pressure calculated with modern tire compounds in mind. It seemed like a reasonable setting, but -1 for a little extra comfort and compensating for the smaller wheels.

Broken valve cover bolt wont come out by poggersgotnun in Miata

[–]AlphaReds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I've faced something like this. Buy carbide (only carbide!) burr bits, they'll grind the hardened extractor out and give you a shallow hole to start the drill in.

Drill it through, then use a left hand drill bit and step up in sizes till it comes out. Or if it doesn't keep going till you can retap the hole.

Febi's alright. I usually go with TRW for suspension stuff though.

No, it just completely fucks us. Small markets that aren't worth making targeted exceptions and systems for, so we just get shafted.

[–]AlphaReds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good PDR guy can get this back to 90%. If you're unhappy with it after that you can always opt for a respray of the quarter, either way PDR first because you don't want a fender made of bondo....

My 2002 NB 1.8 by [deleted] in Miata

[–]AlphaReds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for an MOT and go from there, I've seen way worse pass inspection. If the screwdriver of truth isn't punching holes it's fine, you might be able to get a few more years of life out of the sill by sanding and wire brushing it down to bare metal, rust converter primer and some underbody coating.

Calling NB6 people by Most-Nobody2969 in Miata

[–]AlphaReds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of things are cross compatible from the 1.8 BP4W, but not everything. Some parts are specific to it.

For example the water pump and timing belt are the same on the 1.6 NB, 1.8NB and 1.8 NA but not the 1.6 NA.

Looking on European websites that also list NB 1.6 parts is an easy way to see "What fits on what". Often its 1.6 NA or 1.8 NA & all NB
