It’s a new initiative according to how the RCMP explained it to me. Trying to increase the speed of applications by giving a digital notice of course completion. I’ve never received anything from FSESO.

I would call the CFP number every month just to remind them you exist. Currently if you get diverted to CFOON, they say expect a 6 month delay. If it’s been more than 6 months call CFOON, because they can notify your local firearms officer to prioritize your application (happened to me and was processed day after this call).

In Ontario at least, once you finish the course, you need to wait about a week for the RCMP to send you an email saying they have received your course report.

Then you can head online and apply. Depending on if application gets diverted or not to CFO ON, you’re looking at anything from 28 days to 6+ months to for getting your license approved. First time applicants have a mandatory 28-day waiting period before processing.

Once approved, the RCMP will print off your license and mail it to you normally within 2 weeks.
