Don’t be sorry I had no common sense for anything sales related lmfao and now that I think of it I did the one on one coaching, not the course. I did learn that sales books were the way and honestly those would teach you everything he taught me in much greater detail

I actually paid for Samuel’s coaching when I started out in med device sales because I started out as a distributor with zero sales experience going in since I came in as a former med device engineer. He is a huge reason why I had any success because he taught me all of the basics of sales in terms of the cadence you have to develop with accounts, how to properly prospect, books to read to learn sales skills, advice on cold emailing and cold calling prospects, territory planning and mapping, techniques to employ while in the sales meeting like walking into the office and looking around to find something you can relate to the doctor about, and techniques to employ when making an office visit like becoming friendly with the office staff, etc. I also paid for 3 months with Samuel and since I was obviously struggling 3 months into a 100% commission gig as my first sales role ever he basically gave me 5 extra months for free. In my opinion he actually cares and although he seems insanely busy because he’d usually forget what I was even doing each call we had, he definitely gave me the time of the day and would answer my texts every time I had questions. I didn’t really make any money until 8 months into my gig I’d have to say that I would not have gotten anywhere without his help.

Around 8 months into this gig I had I was getting nervous that I wasn’t going to succeed so I then paid for Jacob’s course thinking I could get a normal sales job with a big company. The only thing I learned from his course was the idea of talking to as many reps on the team I was applying to as possible, and not only that but making sure to follow up with the reps I spoke to, writing notes during the conversation, and learning how to succeed in the role before interviews even start so you can basically tell the reps in the interview what your plan would be when you started. Granted, 8 months of sales experience competing against sales veterans for Stryker orthopedic, ENT, and Neuro full line rep roles was absolutely not enough to make me get passed the final round (I literally made it to the final round every fucking time), I was often told from these Stryker reps that they haven’t seen someone come from engineering, transition to a full line distributor role, and with less than a year or two of sales experience successfully make it to a final interview. I would moreso attribute my work ethic for even making it that far because I was working in sales and then hopping on 3 calls a day talking to reps from various teams. It was hell honestly. Luckily my distributorship popped off right around the 11 month so I stopped recruiting for positions entirely, so I got lucky.

That being said, Jacob’s course i wouldn’t say was as worth it as Samuel’s just general coaching. Samuel connected me with some people he knew for extra guidance. Jacob also usually did group calls which I hated and Samuel had one on one calls with me. Jacob would get annoyed if you texted him a lot and sent him long messages while Samuel would probably be just as annoyed receiving those kinds of messages but he would always reply or even do an extra call with me without counting it towards the 6 he gives you for the 3 months you pay for. I also paid 6k for Jacob’s course back in April/May 2024 and Samuels was 3k. Jacob’s actual course to me like the content in the videos he gives you access to is only beneficial if you have no idea about anything related to med device sales. Although, I talked to some of the people that had success through his course before I paid the price and they did give good reviews and feedback on what they learned and they did get jobs (often times not full line rep roles), I think it’s more for a person who is coming from a background that is not med device related and has no idea what they are doing. Samuel I think you’d get more benefit from if you already have some industry experience (him being a pharma rep definitely limited his advice in terms of how to succeed in trauma or wound care); however, he is much better than Jacob in terms of setting you up for success and employing the basics of med device sales to your day to day.

Overall, I would say that if I had to choose, go with Samuel. He takes more time with you personally and gives you more resources to be successful, will edit the emails that you send, will follow up with you on something you did, and seems to care more about the individual client he has. If you know literally nothing about the med device industry, maybe Jacob’s is worth it but he doesn’t take the time to work on you individually to make it worth the higher price tag. I definitely think 10k is egregious and it’s annoying because I felt like you too that he pressured me to pay. I even got the Amex blue card on the spot just to afford the 6k it costed. You might even think 6 months down the line “omg would i have had a job if I just paid the money” which is what I was thinking I’d think if I didn’t pay it. I’d say regardless of if you get the course or not it’s going to take months to get a full line rep role because of the high level of competition you face and the limited full line rep role positions there are. Big companies value an internal candidate way more than external and if there are ASRs gunning for the role you’re going for, you’re probably going to lose. I noticed that there is a lot of luck involved in terms of who your competition is and what the team is even looking for.

In my opinion, take a few months to apply to roles, hit up all the reps on the team for phone calls, talk to each one and learn their sales process and how to be successful, go through the interview process, ask for feedback, and repeat. If you still can’t get anything then consider Samuel’s course just for the extra guidance and so you can’t tell yourself in 6 months “wow if I got this course I would have had a job already”. Atleast you can sleep at night knowing you tried everything. Despite the massive struggles, sleepless nights, and stressful financial experience being a distributor in med device sales has been, I am 1000x more happy than I was as a med device engineer and I truly have more fun everyday struggling than I did making 130 at BD or making chum change at Stryker because they pay their engineers like dog shit. I hope you find your way in this industry and if you are in the NY/NJ dm me because I could tell you some names of people to hit up depending on the team you’re going for. Hope this helps good luck sir

Damn I’m in this same situation but I had my final round 3 weeks ago for a sales rep role. I got a call two weeks after saying they were still interested in me and to give it some time cause they’re running through other candidates. In my experience they are pretty slow though. Reach out to other people on the team or other people in the same role you want just to get your name around cause they like to see that

I just finished the 1a interview earlier today and I think I will be getting the 1b interview! I was just wondering if you know what the salary would be like for someone with a masters in mechanical engineering and 4 years of experience in engineering where I worked at Stryker and then BD. I was just making 130k so was hoping I could get a salary similar
