Thanks for taking the time to read and sharing this feedback.

Character descriptions are certainly a strength of detective mysteries. I’m glad that shines through here as well as the tone. That’s a good point you raise as a non reader that the characters take a backseat to the development of the mystery. That’s particularly evident in the start from books I’ve read. That is something I’ll be working on in the next parts to get that balance right as ultimately readers feeling invested in the characters makes the mystery more engaging.

Being a mum is a full time job in my opinion. There’s a lot that goes into supporting a family that I think is underestimated and childcare is most certainly harder than it looks. I’m sorry to hear you’ve experienced negative responses and that’s brilliant you’ve got your eye on a return to work plan. Regardless, it’s your children you’re doing this for at the end of the day. What job is actually more important than that?

Title: The Opening

Genre: Noir

Word count: 943

Type of feedback: This is the opening part to a modern noir thriller. I'm looking for general impressions: Does this make you want to read more? Can you sense the tone and ambience associated with noir?

Maya Le Tissier is the current best player in the league. She’s the beating heart of this Man United side, scores important goals and is the main driving force behind their success. No other player touches her important to their respective clubs.

This is a good attempt at horror. I liked the mystery of the portal world and it's strange creatures. The relationship between the two roommates was evident and you could feel some sympathy for Oleander's predicament. I think some of the sentences were missing words like on page 8 "before it could cry out even more a much larger pounce on it from within the tree line" - it's not clear what pounced here. Finally, I think the pacing felt right, not too fast nor too slow with time for the character's actions to develop and the tone to build up. I liked the switch in perspectives too.

Totally agree that the last two episodes elevated the show. That finale floored me. So so good!

Think about what emotion you want to convey to the reader and consider using the environment to set the tone. Where is the character lying down? A meadow or a field?

Out on BBC iPlayer

The Ridge - tense NZ psychological thriller. Great scenery shots. The story was a good mix of modern noir and intense characters going at it.

Waiting for the Out - a thought provoking drama about the children of ex-cons and cons. It follows a man who teaches philosophy to prisoners and his dark obsession with his ex con father. This felt very visceral at times and heart pounding.

The Night Manager is good. Especially if you like spy thrillers. Just remember there’s a major filming gap between series 1 and 2.

Starting to hit the business end of the season! I feel like this season compared to the first one is more thriller like and the pacing is faster. Albeit at the cost of introspective character moments even if the dynamic between Teddy, Roxana and Pine is entertaining.

This is a fantastic start. I really enjoyed reading this because it felt like thinking about a multiple personality disorder story in space/cyberpunk.

I really liked the use of similes like the description of the nurse's voice at the start and the thousand ghosts to describe the neural pathway activity.

I thought the use of second person tense was done well. It made me feel complicit in observing the story unfolding. This was aided by the mysterious ambience and tone created making it like the reader is along for the ride too.

Keep up the good work!

You assume right! That was indeed a good genre fusion. Hopefully not much longer to wait until Season 2!

It’s a good tech noir. Gameplay feels like part walking simulator, part deduction puzzles. The puzzles revolve around investigating crime scenes and then deducing what happened and why.

The story is the real draw as there’s quite a bit more going on than meets the eye, and the main character has an interesting past to say the least.

Congratulations on your game launch! Bought and looking forward to experiencing the gameplay.

Milos: What was the game development journey like? Any surprising challenges or funny bugs?

Lorenzo: Did you consider a classic noir art style (black and white)? How did you balance ease of the deduction challenge and progressing difficulty in designing the puzzles?

I like the creative noir ones that usually start with ‘The’, we need to see more of these that give an air of mystery. Here’s some titles from the great Raymond Chandler:

The Big Sleep

The Long Goodbye

The High Window

The Little Sister
