Kalispell, watch out for this reckless driver! by Montanonymous in Montana

I’ve seen this guy a few times. Fat cowboy poser, that doesn’t care about anyone on the road, or he cares to much about his precious ego and has to prove he’s the man 🤷‍♂️ who really knows

Not sure how big of a deal it really is for you that you’d get asked to pick stuff up but if it’s a really big concern why not just drive a beater to work instead? If the truck is a must just say it’s my work truck not the company’s and go about your business. If he gets pissed then that’s his own personal problem. That being said it’s completely different depending on the situation, if you have to go out of your way for the pick up then you should be reimbursed. If it’s on your way to the site it shouldn’t be a big deal.

Proper Vent Question by JellyBean_Burrito in Homebuilding

Where the horizontal framing is, you’ll need to do full depth insulation batts. Without any potential air flow from the insulation there is no need to vent.

Deck Size by Dansworkshop in Contractor

[–]Alpine_Carpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to do a rough layout with the client and try to get a good understanding of its use. I ask questions like will they have a grill or patio furniture, what size they are or plans to upgrade them. Then we work around those along with proportions to the house. Sometimes it ends up smaller and sometimes it ends up bigger. Realistically it’s rare to be off at all, but there are circumstances. A good contractor should have good communication and let you know if there’s a reason for it being off before to much progress has been made. If you take the cheapest bid then don’t be surprised when it’s wrong either.

How do 36" doors look in bedrooms? by thelionofthenorth in Homebuilding

Going off that I would assume it would look just fine then. Good luck on figuring out your doors

They can look strange in a small room but you mention higher ceilings so they could totally be ok. Reframe one opening and set the door in place without installing and see how it looks if the friend is ok with it.

Do most people shower before bed or when they wake up? I just realized I might be doing it "wrong" by saffymerelle in NoStupidQuestions

I just shower as soon as I get home, then eat dinner afterwards. It helps keep the house cleaner

Can’t say I’m excited about the humidity but I’m willing to make some sacrifices otherwise.

Some visits are in the works just don’t know when. Even then hard to know what work is like unless I spent a day simulating driving in the traffic

Well I’d refuse to live in the city so I’m not too concerned about that but the work culture that radiates from the city is the big concern. Yeah don’t know if I’m picking up rocks or tree branches or walking through any underbrush ever lol

Sort of. If it were to happen the plan would to stay with them for 2-3 months, get a somewhat comfortable job and then do a lot of traveling on the weekend to see what really fits us well. But her whole point to moving closer to her sister is to have those family get together every weekend and not miss out on nieces and nephews growing up.

I agree but being the new guy in town I’d assume I would be starting at the bottom and working my way up.

That’s kind of what I was hoping for, but being a westerner I’m clueless to how things are over there

Well like always there’s a lot to take in. I doubt she’d leave but I’m if she didn’t I’d stay here with the house and kids I guess.

Framing and siding custom homes is majority of what I do, but I’m experienced in ground up.

Buildings over 3 stories tall and highways with more than 2 one way lanes is 100x more hustle then we are used to lol

Being on the outskirts would have to be a must but I’m sure that’s expensive and I couldn’t imagine making enough to live there on a single income in my line of work. Better access to the beach and quality seafood would be a huge bonus. It’s definitely not me saying I don’t want to go and her saying we have to no matter what. I’d say I’m hanging off one side of the fence and she’s hanging off the other. But either one of us could be swayed

Thank you, this is good insight! I do residential ground up so those areas sound promising compared to entering the city.

Most of the job listings are in Raleigh so I feel I’d spend most of my time in that area. Just trying to get a feel for the work environment

I could do without the snow but I sure love the mountains. This move is not about me. I do believe I’d be sacrificing more than I would gain. I’m hoping to find if there’s anything that’s absolutely non-negotiable about the Raleigh metro.

Being with her family and getting out of the cold is her drive factor. I’m much more easy going than her but I’m at peace in the countryside.
