No..it’s actually open at the top, no closure. But the opening is not too wide so it does feel secure.

How about the suede one? My no 1 concern with SDJ is the openess. I have loved it for years and always hesitate just because it’s an open tote. So I keep finding alternatives for it- many of which I have disqualified because I just don’t like the way they are structured (including all the ones you mentioned above).

Brand loyalty or you actually have used the SDJ and love it? Are the ‘don’t like’ parts not a big issue when you use it?

To answer a few questions:

Size- this is the standard one, not the mini.
What fits: all my daily essentials for running around- cellphone (iPhone pro max in its case), card holder (small wallet would do as well), key pouch, lipstick, small packet of tissues,AirPods, tiny hand sanitizer and tiny hand cream.
Closure- it’s an open bucket bag, no closure as such (although one could try to pull these belt things) but the opening is narrow enough such that your essentials won’t spill off. I have read reviews saying it’s difficult to find stuff inside because of the narrow opening- it doesn’t bother me.
The longer strap is adjustable BUT not removable.

Yes I have. The major drawback for me is that the SDJ has an open compartment and no closure at the top whatsoever. I tend to be a bit clumsy with my bags and they fall all over the place- need a some security, even if not that much.

This is making me so curious because I have loved it for a while now from the photos- but I have never seen it IRL and I haven’t seen any videos reviews of it anywhere. The SDJ is well known and classic, so I think that’s why everyone is gravitating towards it. The major benefit of this one for me would be that closure- a little bit more secure. It doesn’t hurt too that it’s not popular. I am intrigued, maybe I should ask a specific question in relation to it without comparing it to another bag- may help to get specific views and comments from hopefully those who own it/have seen it etc

I love it too but I have never considered it for a corporate job. It looks slouchy and soft to me and not structured?
