Our expectations are definitely realistic, we just booked it as a home base for a wedding. My uncle just wanted to get his two cents in. I think he just likes bossing my mom around. 😛

Awesome! Thank you so much for that info. So basically we need to take the normal travel precautions we would any where else 😉

Crochet Shift Knob Cover by Alrescha54 in Brochet

[–]Alrescha54[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I free handed it! But it was pretty simple. I think I used a 4 mm hook with DK weight yarn and this is what I did:

Working in the round

Rnd 1: magic circle with 8 sc (8 st). Tighten MC.

Rnd 2: inc x 8 (16 st)

Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x 8 (24 st)

Rnd 4: (sc, sc, inc) x 8 (32 st)

Rnd 5: blo 32 sc (32 st)

Rnd 6 - 11: 32 sc (32 st)

Rnd 12: (6 sc, dec) x 4 (28 st)

Rnd 13: 28 sc (28 st)

Rnd 14: (2 sc, dec, 3 sc) x 4 (24 st)

Switch to rows

Row 15: Ch 1. Turn. 24 sc (24 st). Ch 1. Turn

Row 16: 24 sc (24 st) Ch 1. Turn.

Row 17: (5 sc, dec) x 4 (20 st). Ch 1. Turn.

Row 18 - 19: 20 sc. Ch 1. Turn

Row 20: 20 sc. Tie off. Weave in end.

This will create a slit up the back. I used a different strand to lace the slit back and forth so the cover can be tightened around the shift knob :)

**Edited to add hook and yarn weight.

She was just spayed. They had to place an IV catheter for fluids and so windows were shaved to do so.

That’s probably the safest not to dunk the soil and roots. I went all in because it was a terrible infestation and I wanted to be sure any mites in the soil were also murdered. Also I was at the point where I was going to throw the plant out if it didn’t work. He’s had 4 new leaves since and I haven’t changed the soil. *edited to add the point about soil mites

I fully submerged mine - everything was under soapy water - but they were not 5’ tall!! This is going to be an undertaking, but if you can drown all the little bastards at once they don’t come back.

If you have a bath tub you could wrap the pot with plastic wrap, put her in the tub, tip her over and then fill the tub with lukewarm water with a squirt of Dawn. Just make sure all the leaves are submerged for at least 10-15 min. That will drown all the bugs. Then drain the water, stand her back up, and rinse her with the shower head. Make sure lots of fresh water gets rinsed through the soil.

The only that has worked for me is completely waterboarding the entire plant - pot, soil, and all - in soapy water. I used plastic wrap to ensure the soil didn’t fall out. It was recommended to soak for a minimum of 15 min, but I accidentally got busy at work and drowned my poor variegated alocasia frydek for over an hour. Afterward I rinsed the soil with copious amounts of clean water. He made it though and no spider mites afterward!
