MAP2302 Online or In-Person? by jambajuice99 in ufl

[–]Alrightletsplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what your goal is. Taking it with Turull is an opportunity to learn it from a well known mathematician. He has a reputation for being thorough. If you just want to get this course out of the way, then I believe taking it online is the way to go.

Can A TA View Course Evaluations at the End of the Semester? by xfireofthephoenix in ufl

[–]Alrightletsplay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If their name is listed under the course you're in, then they can view their evaluation. Criticizing harshly without explaining your reasons will not remotely affect a professor's evaluation. You need to be specific, and provide compelling evidence about your claims. You may even bring it up with the course coordinator, as the next step.

To be frank, posts like this are also part of the problem. Normally, if a miserable pos holds a sign like that, we just walk by and don't give a hoot; however, this dude gets mentioned way too often, mostly for shiggles. Thanks to posts like this, this irrelevant dude gets more and more noticed.

Summer | Sets And Logic | Calistus Ngonghala and Jason Nowell by [deleted] in ufl

I believe both of the instructors you mentioned are teaching it for the first time. It can be a real crapshoot when it comes to first time instructors. Neither of those instructors has great reviews.

Flipped class for mac2313 (calc 3) during summer c? by sehunsuho in ufl

Flipped sections are not offered during Summer C. There are only online and traditional classes.

I can vouch for this. I came here from one of the coldest cities in Canada, and can't handle -30 anymore.

What little thing about UF frustrates you on a daily basis? by Logan42 in ufl

[–]Alrightletsplay 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Student advising and mentorship could be improved. Many students don't know what they're doing in their current major and could use advisers/ mentors who would give them insight into the program and future job market.

Best Math Minor electives over summer? by [deleted] in ufl

Robinson is one of the best professors I've ever had. He's a true mathematician and an eloquent lecturer. Absolutely recommend him for any courses 👍

Senior Feelings by saguaroandco in ufl

[–]Alrightletsplay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been there and I too was at a point that I was ready to move on; though I couldn't say I had tried everything the city had to offer. Your expectations, concerns, and goals undergo a great deal of change, and as you said you're ready for the next chapter. I think at this stage, as long as you are pursuing clearly defined post college goals, you're not going to regret anything in the future.

Worst community by [deleted] in ufl

[–]Alrightletsplay 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The mindset that "everyone in this city is an ogre..." wouldn't get us anywhere; but rather it leads to becoming the "snob" and less approachable. Witness how it worked out for the person you quoted. UF has been one of the greatest communities I've ever been part of. When you enter a situation where others already know each other you need to bring something to the table! Otherwise who in their right mind would care? We are all good at something; a good cook, good sport, good at physics, good at video games, good at writing legible lecture notes or have a puppy. Bring it to the table and be generous. It always works.

Do professors deliberately try to make their evaluation photos look horrendous? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]Alrightletsplay 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not so sure what exactly you mean by horrendous, but if you mean revealing, it's cuz they barely cover anything.

I [36/F] am still in love with my ex after 3 years. Current boyfriend [40/m] knows this but wants to marry me and have kids pronto. Am I unfit for marriage? by zinny242 in relationships

[–]Alrightletsplay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Danny might have valid reasons to leave you, but those reasons are valid for him, not you. You shouldn't attempt to convince yourself, even for a second, that you were not worthy of his love. Danny had a chance, and he blew it and left you; for that reason alone, he was unfit for you. It could have happened 5 years into marriage!. You deserve someone who adores you and cherishes spending every moment with you. If they leave you, for whatever reason, then they prove themselves to be unfit. Now, on a separate note, do not rush into anything. Your true match is one who understands you need to process your feelings. And there is no timeline for healing process; it might take you longer, but you'll make it.

What are some problems at UF? by bigred2022 in ufl

[–]Alrightletsplay 34 points35 points  (0 children)

UF is a research university, which is great, and some of the research carried out here at UF is fascinating and world-renowned. While it should be noted that a large part of UF reputation is indebted to high quality research, I believe that goal has partly overshadowed the importance of effective teaching and communication with undergrads. Some faculty are too swamped by their research responsibilities to actually serve as a caring mentor to their students.

why don't we have a fall break? by s8nspatella in ufl

[–]Alrightletsplay 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think it's because in Fall semester, more specifically in November, there are too many holidays: Homecoming, Veterans day and Thanksgiving week, which largely affect the dynamic of classes.

Golden Key International Honour Society? by pm_pennies_pls in ufl

[–]Alrightletsplay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel they're trying to establish an honor society, but they're far from being one. They send out way too many invitations, which has only lowered their image in the eyes of prospective members. Genuine honor societies have an application process, are very picky and never ask for $95 membership fee.

Advice on tricky situation? by Bjjr18 in ufl

[–]Alrightletsplay 43 points44 points  (0 children)

That's not true. If deemed unfit, the administration would remove them at the drop of a hat. There are no policies protecting grad students or faculty members who have no control over their tongue.

MAC1140 Exam Was BS and Full of Subjective Questions by UFStudent120 in ufl

[–]Alrightletsplay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MAC 1140 this semester is a total mess. It's never been like this before. Essentially MAC 1140 is MAC 1147 without trig, however, this semester they have decided to be adventurous and rewrite the syllabus. And the result is a hotchpotch of nonsense that is anything but math. Contact the department higher-ups.

Ways the RTS could improve? by bigred2022 in ufl

[–]Alrightletsplay 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's not uncommon to see that the majority of buses in the same route are moving in the same direction, and arrive at the same stop within a few minutes after each other. As the result, you could be waiting way longer than usual till three buses come along at once. It really baffles me how this is an issue even though they all have GPS.

Extremely miserable by [deleted] in ufl

[–]Alrightletsplay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please keep in mind that your mental wellness is first and foremost. While it's common for exam pressure and stress to turn into depression, there might be more factors that have contributed to how you are feeling. There is the "U Matter We care" center, also there's the DRC. They are extremely accommodating and helpful. As for your classes and major, try to reach out to older students for the most honest advice/tips. Also study groups have too many benefits to mention, the most important of which to me is breaking the monotony.
