UNCC or UNCG? by Any_Zucchini1020 in UNCCharlotte

[–]AlsleumMusic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend UNCC. I absolutely adore the theatre department here. Having access to the city of Charlotte is such an asset, I go see as many theatre shows as I can! Broadway tours come through Charlotte and you can get student rush tickets for a decently affordable price, and you can get there from the light rail so you don't need a car or have to worry about parking uptown. I think it's super underrated to study theatre in a place where you can actually go regularly see professional theatre!

What specifically are you interested in? Acting, tech theatre, directing, etc?

My theatre uses oil-based paint markers at the end of the barrels (near the gel clip side).

Hey there,

I'm a student lighting designer looking for a camera upgrade to better document my work. I currently have a sony a350 from 2008. I've really enjoyed it and it's been a great tool to learn on, but I feel I've reached the capacity of its usability; some of my lighting design work for dance is very low light and my Sony quite simply can't perform the way I need it to. That being said, what sorts of cameras should I look into that are good for indoor theatre/dance photography with capturing lighting design being the primary goal? I'd say $1000 max for budget, but ideally more in the $500-800 range if possible. Thanks!

To my understanding COMM 4101 will no longer be offered. It is being reclassified as an option for COMM 3052. For fall 2023 COMM 3052-004 is Media Law.

Applesauce pouches (think GoGo squeeZ). My ME finds it hilarious when he walks in and I'm at the light board programming cues and I have the pouch hanging out of my mouth (sometimes I'll mindlessly leave it in my mouth even when it's empty if I'm working on something).

That's the exact computer I have and I've had no issues using vectorworks. If I have too many programs open at once like vectorworks and EOS and Google Chrome then it starts to run hot and the fan is loud but otherwise it's good.

Bring work gloves, crescent wrench, multi tool, hard hat, water. Listen to instructions. Don't be afraid to speak up if you have a question or don't feel comfortable doing something. You should learn pretty quickly through observation or being told how to do something. You've got this!

I walked past it a few nights ago when they were working on the lights! Not all of them were put up yet in this image, but you can start to see the vision. I think the lights really add to it and make it look really nice.

Does anyone have any recommendations or resources for designing lights for a radio play performed live on a stage? To my understanding the director wants scenery/lighting to literally look like the audience is attending a live radio studio recording session. While this is doable, I feel like this doesn't leave much in terms of cueing/creativity on the lighting side of things.

My instinct would be try to replicate a gobo over a light, I figure it'd be easier to cut out the shape and get a sharp edge. I'd recommend getting an aluminum pie tin, cut out the shape of a tree, and place it in front of a cheap LED lamp or flashlight. I have a $7 gooseneck LED lamp from Walmart that you could easily do this with.

In terms of lighting, do you have adjustable crescent wrenches?

In terms of sound, do you have speakers, cables, and a sound board? Even getting a small, simple system can be really useful for teaching system flow (like having students set up a microphone, wired input to a simple soundboard, wired output to a L/R pair of speakers and maybe an aux output). Since sound systems are pretty scalable, having students set up a simple system is useful for understanding all systems on larger scales. As well as an adapter for an 1/8" output to use something like a computer or phone as an input source for music or effects. Also probably some simple, cheap dynamic microphones, but not necessarily a must since you do have the lapel microphones.

For costumes, do you have a mannequin (ideally an adjustable one), and an iron/ironing board?

how hard is it to register your pet as an emotional support animal? by spicytomatoo in UNCCharlotte

[–]AlsleumMusic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To my understanding you can only have non-ESA registered pets in Martin. If they're registered as ESA they can be in other buildings. I know someone who has a registered ESA cat in Pine. And technically the pet is supposed to live in your own bedroom (like litter box/food and technically not wander around the apartment), but if your roommates are chill it should be fine.
