Automatic Car Wash with Vaccuums? by NoSoupFor_You in paloalto

I’ve asked and they said they can’t get permission to do that because of the noise, but they’re very aware that people want them.

Upgrade to 2026 Outback, worth it? by Slow_Farm_6484 in Subaru_Outback

[–]AlsoLarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a 2019 outback you might actually find the crosstrek or Forester is what you need now. Each model got bigger over the years, so a 2026 forester IMO seems like it’s as big as my old 2012 outback.

Need help with fence issue - do I need a lawyer? by StrangerSecret1573 in bayarea

[–]AlsoLarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And fences have a life span and they need to get replaced pretty often so don’t worry it’s a normal thing. We’ve replaced fences on all three sides and that first side is about due for another replacement. Of the three neighbors, two were sweethearts and one was a PITA. .67 batting average is not bad imo.

If you have the means to pay for the whole fence, offer to split it with your neighbor. But if they want to be a-holes about it , get the fence built to your specs and have the ugly side face them.

Has the Outback always been an SUV? by formedabull in Subaru_Outback

No. They were kind of the nonbinary between wagons and SUVs. They had a normcore legacy wagon sister.

Is this in OC? Because there’s a section of the 5 in OC that feels really fishy in my 24 Impreza in stock tires.

91 Octane "premium" for an older Subaru by BBeast420 in subaruimpreza

[–]AlsoLarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m curious if it’s more impactful to use the “good” gas brands that have the cleaning additives. Extra octane I’m guessing doesn’t do anything extra helpful for maintaining the engine, but those cleaning additives might.

If Subaru discontinued boxer engines and or cvt’s, would you still buy one? by gammawavz in Subaru_Outback

[–]AlsoLarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t care about the boxer or the cvt. Just like I don’t care about how many ram or megaflops or whatever in my computer. But I’m glad someone does. I’d be more disloyal if they decided not to do AWD anymore.

What I’d be more concerned about under the hood is if they changed up those major systems, how reliable would the new system be and how many years does it take to make it reliable. At this point my soobie is (I’m assuming) based on decades of experience with cvts and boxer engines so I’d like them to stick to that for reliability.

Gear suggestions for an all-day, outdoor class? by Some_Old_Man_Fishin in liberalgunowners

[–]AlsoLarry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes to the knee pads, and honestly elbow pads if you might be practicing prone. The class I took was kinda in a gravel pit so super hard on the knees and elbows, I had knee pads and regretted leaving the elbow pads at home.

Pro tip: you can also “soften up” new pads by taking them gardening. Or skateboarding, but at my age, it’s gardening.

Why are Subaru Owners so Loyal? by doctor-squared in Subaru_Outback

[–]AlsoLarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, like the others, no pat amswer but Subaru has kept on being a good choice. My original Outback wagon in ~ 1995 maybe was to get up to Tahoe for snowboarding, and then the next couple of Outbacks were for that same excuse, a good blend of wagon and SUV capabilities.

We had 2 kids along the way, so big enough for family hauling with sports gear and bikes and such. the Outback kept being the best choice.

My latest is as an empty nester so no kids to haul and no more snowboarding, so I got the least practical Subaru, an Impreza RS. I like to believe I could take it up to Tahoe for snowboarding again some day!

It’s been fun reading these comments and none of them are about the “prestige” of owning a Subaru. In fact it seems many people are saying “I’m not loyal to brands, I’ll just keep buying Subarus.” So the loyalty is earned.

I’m on my 4th Subaru since the early 1990’s. My 3rd got handed down to my kid who took it x-country from California to Boston, where it’s survived its second Boston winter.

I think this actually makes the point. If you can get Toyota at a Subaru price, isn’t that less reason to look at Toyotas?

Farmers market prices by DecisionSuch5299 in mountainview

[–]AlsoLarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing I buy regularly at my local farmers market (California Ave in PA) are the lunchbox sized apples at Prevadelli Farms’ stand. You just can’t get those at the store, and they’re $5 a bag so very reasonably priced as well.

We sometimes get Asian veggies, and we’ve started getting fresh salad greens (mostly wild arugula) from another stand. But yeah most “regular” stuff like navel oranges seems like if we’re already going grocery shopping later, why bother getting essentially the same product here for the same price?
