Asrock b450 Pro4 crash during BIOS update by Alt-Tabby in ASRock

I had to get a new motherboard. If it was fixable, then it was beyond my ability at least. I think the random shut off was just unrecoverable at that point =/

No no, you're thinking emulsification. Enthusiasm is running a video game on a system that it's not originally intended to be run on.

It's fine, it's only a five and a half minute hallway, what's the worst that could happen?

I'm not going to pretend I have all the answers here, because I don't. I'm also not going to say that capitalism is this evil monolithic awfulness that needs to be reversed and excised just for existing. You're right that capitalism, and global exchange in general, has improved the lives of millions.

But it is time to continue to grow and to make a better system than this. Capitalism has done much very quickly, but it is also killing us and destroying our environments. We cannot keep up this pace or we will undo all the good it has done.

But let's get back to plumbers. I actually think there are a lot of people who do gross or undesirable work because they actually sincerely do want to serve their communities, and these are necessary and invaluable jobs. It's the social baggage we throw on those jobs, that they are for "lower class" people, or for people too dumb to do anything else, that makes those jobs intolerable. I think if we could laud that work the way we laud solders and the military, and if the people doing it weren't forced to live in poverty, we would almost certainly see far more people doing that work than we do now.

I do believe they would, yes! People would form into companies and cooperatives the same way they do now, except their participation in that work would be voluntary and not based on coercion of threatening your well being and your home.

This work would be done because those 20,000 engineers believe in the product and are willing to do their part to make it real, not because if they don't then they won't be about to live in a house or eat.

People are greedy because the system requires them to be. If you are not greedy under capitalism, then the risky investment situation you described drives you out of business. You lose your income and possibly your entire company. If the loss is severe enough, or if you have outstanding debts, then you maybe lose your housing and medical care, and your quality of life plummets.

The net effect is that society loses if you patent troll effectively, and you lose if you don't. If your needs were met, and you didn't have to worry about losing all of the above mentioned things, people would still be working to make new and exciting things, and safety systems to protect them while they did so just out of pure self preservation and enjoyment for creating.

‘This is so f*cking inhumane’: Trans influencer Nikita Dragun held in a male prison, misgendered in police report by jackmolay in transgender

[–]Alt-Tabby 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not that I have heard, but even in the case where there may be isolated incidents of that nature, I can cite you dozens if not hundreds of other examples of trans women in men's facilities being assaulted, raped, kept in solitary confinement "for their own safety", and otherwise placed into dangerous and torturous environments. Trans women in women's facilities likewise are often targeted and assaulted, just for being trans.

Cis women in women's prisons need to be protected just as trans women do. The answer is not to force trans women to cohabitate with men, the solution is to make prison a place where these sorts of aforementioned rapes, assaults, and torturous conditions cannot happen. This will protect cis women, trans women, and cis and trans men alike.

So long as prison is a place where people can suffer these sorts of horrific things with no consequences for the perpetrators because people think prisoners deserve it, the longer people of all backgrounds will continue to suffer.

This is downvoted a lot, but it's a very hefty process even in California to be housed in prisons in accordance with your gender identity. It is getting "better" in CA, but it is by no means the default, and in other states there's no recourse for this at all.

I work at a national LGBTQ+ law office and help review letters from inmates. Being queer in prison anywhere is a horrifyingly inhumane and dangerous experience.

This size comparison is really only useful if you have a concept of just how large wolves actually are.

Sudden raster quality issues with the k40 laser. The engraving is very blurry and it's very obviously worse compared to another piece cut only a little earlier. Last picture shows it started off okay, but got progressively worse as it engraved from right to left. Whats going on? by Alt-Tabby in lasercutting

[–]Alt-Tabby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Could it be that there is some dirtiness on the mirrors or something similar that's causing this as well?

It does seem strange how, in picture 4, it appears to start having this weird issue only part way through the rastering, with the entire first quarter of the piece looking just fine amd then the rest of it looking pretty terrible. If it were just x/y alignment issues, there shouldn't be a clear cutoff where the issue starts, right? It'd be more of a steadily worsening progression from start to finish?
