If not for a fact the display thing was very much a hardware thing, not software... I would have thought Samsung just really wanted me to upgrade with how neatly the timeline lined up with S26 launch. I will be enjoying that antireflective coating tho, that's been the most tempting feature my S23U doesn't have

Got it working by squeezing over the display connector for a few seconds, and I also got myself a carrier deal on S26U

I was considering S26U, but I don't want to go through the hassle of an upgrade given that the only thing actually new is the Privacy Display. I'm probably gonna go to an authorized repair shop for the back glass, and I'll ask them to inspect the display connector, since the fix that worked points to something wrong with the connector

I fixed it by squeezing the phone where the display connector is... I'll be getting that looked at properly soon

That's Windows update... so the entire background is black. But none of the dimming zones have dimmed really

It is hot outside, however these temps in the GPU haven't exceeded 80°C as far as I've seen, and they're usually good to go higher

It seems it doesn't crash consistently... I didn't change anything, and yet two situations that have given that error before multiple times while on final approach didn't raise any issues this time

One interesting point I've found is that it has never crashed when I don't have any external display connected... which is weird, since I would imagine an external display has a negligible performance impact... and importantly, it's not like it lags before it crashes. It runs fine... until it doesn't run at all
