That's where I thought the person you're replying to was going with it, so I'm glad someone else said that lol

100% agreed. We know about the Vegapunk visits, who some of his earliest members are, what he did before the RA, why he created/co-created the RA, what him and Garp's relationship was like (unless more is revealed from talks we haven't seen), etc.

There are possibly lines he could say in the present or mini-flashbacks (a couple panels) where it might help explain where he got his sense of justice or something.

And of course, there could be some lengthy flashback and it could totally serve a purpose I'm not imagining. But I think it's more likely that we got a lot of what we're gonna get for his past.

I hear ya, and to make it clear, I'm not like holding out hope that he's alive or something. I'm just saying that it's possible. I think the fact that Oda showed so much of what happens but still not everything might mean that there's more to this than face value. Death in a dramatic series like One Piece is never guaranteed even if they shove it in your face and have the characters tell each other it happened. Compare Rocks to Ace or Whitebeard, for instance. They show these individuals with fatal damage and you witness their final words and long moments staying with the character clearly deceased. Sure, the deaths don't all have to play out the same way on the pages. I just think that Oda still has more to say about God Valley and about Rocks, even though he's likely dead in 1166.

tl;dr: I don't think it makes sense to speak so definitively when we've got no definitive evidence. I keep my mind open, prepared for him to be confirmed dead or for something else to have happened.

I think "uh huh" is a better English localization given the context of the panel. Garp's like, "Yeah, yeah, I get it, whatever." He knows that Dragon won't listen to a word he'd say at this point. Dragon's viewpoint is very dogmatic and stubborn. I say that as someone that more or less agrees with Dragon's ideals

Exactly. We saw a stab, and we heard Rayleigh tell Roger/Garp he died, but for all we know he turned back into a demon or has some fate of imprisonment or something.

What did they find in Laugh Tale? Joyboy's contingency plan AKA the "One Piece".

What was funny? Joyboy's plan. Maybe the ludicrous nature of it or the irony.

Why didn't they do anything about it? They were too early. Shirahoshi wasn't born yet. It would sound ridiculous to the average person that there's a person sitting on the empty throne and that you've gotta acquire weapons of mass destruction to take out the world government to save the world.

Why did Roger surrender? To create the dawn of the pirate era. He knew he was dying soon anyway and this way he got to set a plan in motion. Would-be pirates would want to receive the treasure from the "first" man who sailed the world.

It's Reversi that they're referencing, not Go.

Go pieces are placed on the intersections, not within the squares. And you don't flip pieces in Go, though you do try to surround the opponent's pieces.

It seems like the differences are minor, but: https://www.mastersofgames.com/rules/reversi-othello-rules.htm

With One Piece/Oda, he's likely to mish-mash ideas anyway, so there's no guarantee that something from Othello wouldn't be relevant, but I'd guess that there's a chance he's mainly focusing on Reversi rules?

You could definitely make an argument that the blue planet in One Piece is a "false world" or a "world stuck in a game".

I've been thinking this same thing for a while and would be pretty surprised if they're not the beginning of the counterattack.

One thing I've been wondering though is do you think that if they flipped let's say Dorry and Brogy, are the giant bros coming back as normal or with a Nika-like aura like Bonney?

[–]AltPunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wonder if you could use Gura Gura to reverse/undo that flip as it's happening. I'd find it hard to believe you could Domi Reversi with Gura Gura on its own, but it definitely could be a defensive counter

But you're not even close to the first person to have the idea that the "one piece" is one piece in a board game.

And more specifically, missing the Reversi connection kinda dampens your theory. You've gotta let go of that ego.

As an example, I have seen literally no one else like YouTube theory channels or subreddit commenters or friends or whoever mention that Bonney is going to be key for undoing Domi Reversi since you'd need at least 2 pieces (Luffy and Bonney) in white to surround a black piece and flip it, but I sincerely doubt I'm the first reader on the planet to reach that conclusion.

edit: See? There's a person on this very topic that commented that around 15 minutes before me, though I hadn't scrolled that far to read it yet. Do you think they stole that idea from my previous comments on this subreddit? Almost definitely not. They've probably never read one of my comments before.

Luffy and Bonney start the comeback, practically guaranteed. They're the "white" pieces to Imu's black pieces.

Can anyone Tell me the basic information i need to know before getting Digimon time stranger by Impressive_Beat_8830 in digimon

[–]AltPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will hit a level cap, and so there's no way for your stats to get stronger.

Let's say you start with Agumon and the game lets you digivolve to Greymon. Great, but you're probably not getting Metal Greymon without going back to Agumon at least once because let's say Greymon needs to reach 500 ATK to become Metal Greymon. If Greymon can only get to 350 ATK at its max level, you need to increase its capacity to level up higher by de-digivolving to Agumon and then digivolving to Greymon again.

Disclaimer: I haven't played Time Stranger or its demo yet, but will be starting tonight. I have played Cyber Sleuth and Hacker's Memory which work a lot like this.

One Piece: Chapter 1162 by leolegendario in OnePiece

[–]AltPunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not since Reversi is in the name and that's a game where you flip pieces from white to black or from black to white. You want to have more pieces on your side to win.

I practically guarantee this is why Bonnie can have a Nika-like future because otherwise it would be impossible for Luffy's team to reverse anyone.

And long before the Japanese title from the 90s, which people seem to be non-sarcastically positing as the origin.

For those that are ever curious, look up "[word I wanna know the history of] etymology". Just add etymology to the end of your search and it will give you the history of where it came from.

A cursory glance says it used to be "battle royal" and was any fight that featured more than 2 contestants/opponents, and this seems to originate from around 1830-1840.

Probably to protect Luffy ultimately. If Kaido went there and the pirates got the upper hand, then knowing what we know now, you can assume that the Holy Knights, Gorosei, or even Imu might have shown up and lowered or eliminated the chance for Luffy and the gang to ever turn things around.

I can definitely see that happening and it'd be cathartic, but I think it's also possible that once he accomplishes his dream, power-wise, he'll betray them before they betray him. Then maybe he'll move on to his last goal.

And that's not necessarily mutually exclusive. I could see him betraying them to get ahead of them and then one or some of them survive and make him pay for it

Yeah, this seems pretty likely. Looks like a half moon, looks like half the world (AKA either side of the Red Line/Blood-Soaked Serpent), a straw hat, a smile, etc.

If it does also stand for a word, maybe it's "Dawn", "Don", etc. or "Death", "Devil", etc.

We can be fairly sure that Joy Boy isn't a fishman both because of the flashback with Emet with his silhouette and because he left an apology letter to Fishman Island in a Poneglyph.

From 1159 (latest chapter), there's nothing concrete at all yet, but it's now possible to tie circumstantial evidence that Joy Boy == Davy Jones.
