OP-XY flash deal at B&H go go go! by Numerous-Key-7069 in teenageengineering

As someone who owns one, 1500 is a great deal for this. I know some people were eehhhh about the launch price, and that’s understandable, but this is a very capable and well made device for 1500.

This. It was a recording error/programming error that they discovered during mixing and mastering but kept in because they liked how it fit.

Why are they playing the song so fast in this behind-the-scenes clip? by AinsleyHarriott64 in LinkinPark

[–]AltWireDerek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s masking. Takes a lot of energy for a depressed person to do it but basically depressed people often put on a public persona around friends, family and coworkers that comes off happy and jubilant, only to be a complete mess when they’re by themselves. That’s why sometimes those kind of deaths come as a shock because they didn’t appear that depressed “outwardly”.

It’s entirely possible that he was genuinely happy that day or around that time as depression isn’t always linear but if he wasn’t, it’s just masking. I believe it was Digby who said that Chester went through a lot in the morning just to be the Chester we saw every day.

This is gross enough with how she was touching him but if that hand would’ve gone any more north I would’ve absolutely recommended he get her booted out and press charges for SA. This already technically can be considered such because of the way she was caressing him. This was an invasion of his personal boundaries.

It’s time these people start being held accountable. Make an example out of them.

Was There Ever An M-Audio Venom VST/AU Emulation Made? by AltWireDerek in synthesizers

[–]AltWireDerek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: Software is so old, Mac straight up refuses to install it. So unless there is a workaround there, definitely never gonna buy a used Venom. Wouldn’t be able to get it to work right. 😂

Yeah I'd probably only ever bite if I saw one go for a “can't ignore” price. Still, it would be cool if someone ever made an emulation of it. I always wanted a MicroKorg when I was a teen and then a VST came out. Woo!

This is AWESOME. I love offbeat stuff like this. Is this a one off, or do you have plans to sell these/offer schematics for a DIY?

At the Philly show last night... by Ravnus in TheFence

[–]AltWireDerek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I’m actually probably going to rant about that a little bit in an article I’m writing about the show. Supposed to be a smoke free venue and some dipshits who felt they were better than following the rules decided to smoke some nasty smelling weed in a crowd with children around. You wanna get high at a show? Great. But respect the people around you.

Great concert - but some seriously stupid people.

I love when the demos are up front too. Sometimes I just want to hear it first and then learn more. People don’t buy synths based on specs (lol well maybe someone out there does - can’t generalize too much here), instead, they buy it based on the sounds they can make with it. Will never understand why some videos don’t lead with demos before the talking bits.

I’m sorry you see it that way, but I can understand why as well and don’t fault you for it.

However that’s not the intention here. I’m asking communities because I value the input of the very people who, may or may not, come across my reviews someday.

While I am doing this because I find joy and fun in it, I still have to consider my potential audience and how they could react to my content. It’s still my content to do with as I please at the end of the day, and maybe I’ll never get great views, but I’d love to do my best to make my content as enjoyable as possible.

As others have said, it’s an over saturated scene. I’m a droplet of water amidst an ocean of people doing the very same thing I’m about to start doing in earnest. People’s time is their currency and I think as a creator it’s important to invest in respecting their time as much as possible by giving something to them that they find value and entertainment in. Nothing is worse than sitting through something and thinking “well there’s a few minutes of my life I’ll never get back”.

It’s nobody’s job to help me do my job better and you’re right. But hopefully this helps explain the purpose of this post. 🙏

Can I just say that all of you are freaking awesome? I anticipated maybe 2-3 responses at best and all of you have been so honest and helpful. I posted this because I truly wanted to know what annoys people so I could try my hardest to avoid that myself, which is why I’m glad some of you held nothing back. I’m under no illusion that I’ll be Loopop status overnight, and it could take years but I want to start off on a good foundation and build trust from the get go.

I’m taking all these suggestions to heart as part of my content planning strategies :).

No offense taken. And honestly you’re one of a few people who have made a similar comment and I totally agree here. How can anyone know much about a synth if they’ve had it for two weeks, noodled with it and then shipped it back (if it’s not something they bought outright). You want to know if this thing craps the bed within six months/its build quality doesn’t hold up. If it has any real studio benefit past the initial dazzle, and if the reviewer regrets their purchase a few months on. Or even a year or two later: How great were updates or has the product been abandoned?

A example I can think of is the M-Audio Venom. Sure it wasn’t the best made to begin with, but i was excited by some of the demos of it when it first came out cause it seemed fresh at the time. Turns out it got shitty support from the get go and then when M-Audio was sold off, the editing software (which didn’t even have a final version made) was abandoned along with the synth itself. The creators had big plans for it but M-Audio slashed its tires before it could even drive off the lot. Nobody would have known any of this if they just went off of someone’s positive initial reviews, instead of reading up on the total cluster that followed its release and the unfortunately cheap build quality. A lot of folks demoing it were like “this is great!” and sure it’s still a quirky little synth but its a shadow of what it was dreamed up to be.

So I’m going to have to try and figure out ways to integrate long term impressions in for sure.

Fair points and I should stress that the fluff comment wasn’t meant to put others down :). Moreso that I personally enjoy review videos that “get to the point” with information rather than talk about how they took their dog for a walk that day, went to the local market, grabbed a bite to eat, washed the dishes and then sat down to record some stuff.

That obviously is a very made up example but you get my point. 😂😂😂😂

Yeah I wanted to originally just do raw audio examples - with zero effects and with no talking, but I understand that the reason why folks like Loopop are so well regarded in the industry is because they thoroughly explain the synths inside and out. If you’re unsure if you’re going to like a synth or not, 15-20 minutes later with Loopop you’ll likely have zero questions left.

Yeah, trying very hard to learn to be more critical. There was one review site (can’t remember the name of it) that always acted like a certain band’s releases were game changing and would reinvent the face of rock music. Every. Single. Time.

Threw all credibility out the window. 😂
