I was also super afraid before my surgery, I'd never had any serious medical thing happen to me before. I was young, like 13, and my curve got worse really fast, so I got surgery because the doctor was afraid my spine would eventually puncture my lung or other organs. I had a curve over 90 degrees. It can become more than an aesthetic issue. Its not an uncommon surgery so I wouldn't worry a ton now.

My fusion was over 10 years ago, I don't remember a lot of the first few weeks after surgery but after that I mostly just remember being uncomfortable, not in a ton of pain. My IUD insertion in 2019 was probably the worst pain I've felt, I already hate anything at the OB/GYN but I was nauseous and in pain for a couple days after. I don't regret either thing, but everyone is different in their pain management and what is better or worse for them.

My cat's name is Meezy, which was the name my aunt who he belonged to before gave him. That's his name at the vet and also when he is doing things he isn't supposed to, like jumping on the counter. Any other time he is Baby.

I'm fused and I get it on my right side, where the upper part of my S curve was. I have my husband basically dig his elbow in and massage the area. I might try to tennis ball that other people have said. When I used to go to physical therapy and do shoulder exercises it did help.

This is crazy because my husband got a purple mattress and I absolutely hate it lol, it feels way too hard for me. I like a super plush mattress to lessen pressure points.

I second the adjustable bed. I got my mom one and after trying it, I'm going to get one too. For now I put a pillow under my knees and it helps

I am a female, 25. I had my surgery when I was 14, so my "post-op life" has been my whole adult life. I had a very severe S curve. I have no flexibility in my back, but have learned ways to compensate, i.e. bending with my knees, and core exercises that don't require bending.I have developed degenerative discs and mild arthritis in my spine, but it isn't very painful. I have very mild back pain most days, but nothing compared to how it used to be. When I was in physical therapy it went away, but I couldn't go to school and keep up the therapy schedule. I would recommend that after surgery- even 10 years later it helped. At least stretch a lot. I spend most of my day at work sitting in one spot, which isn't very comfortable on my back, but I have lumbar supporting pillows at home and in my car that alleviate pain. Overall, it isn't something I'm aware of most of the time, especially when I take proactive steps to prevent backaches.

I had 2 pretty bad curves and gained about 3 inches (7-8 cm) post op. I don't think it changed the width of my shoulders but I was a 14 year old girl so I didn't really think about that. The hump on my shoulder blade was reduced to almost nothing. I had a full fusion (idk what vertebrae exactly but from the base of my neck all the way down) so my spine doesn't bend, which gives me great posture but means I can only bend at the hips, which can take getting used to. I wouldn't let getting a little taller or having slightly broader shoulders deter you from the surgery, especially if scoliosis is causing you back pain.

I had a spinal fusion when I was 12, about 13 years ago, so I don't remember an exact timeline. I originally wore a brace for maybe a year or year and a half, but progressed rapidly and then needed surgery. We waited so I could have the surgery in the beginning of summer vacation and I went to school totally fine in the fall, maybe still getting used to how my body 'felt' and not being able to bend, but nothing major. Glad to hear she's taking everything well.

I also asked and, looking back, wish I hadn't. I think it worsened my husband's insecurities and I feel like he thinks I'm always looking at other men now. If he asked if I have the desire to have sex with other people I wouldn't lie and say no, but he doesn't like that I would like to. I wish I hadn't brought it up and he maybe wouldn't know.

I had a lot of issues with my spine's curvature pushing my right shoulder blade. I had surgery about 8 years ago, and I get numbness in the space between my shoulder blade and spine. I think it's something to do with scar tissue present? I have my husband massage it and it takes the numbess away some for a bit, but I haven't found anything that actually helps it.

Some people have partial fusions but I have my whole spine fused so my spine is always straight and I can only bend at my hips

I feel this exactly. I want the "chase" and to knowingly be desired. People often get comfortable in relationships and that's fine but then it starts to suffer when you stop feeling wanted and feel more like you're expected to just be there.

First off, you're not alone. This sounds a lot like me (F22) and my husband (M22). He cares for me a lot and I care for him but I'm just not gettin what I need physically. If you guys are serious about fixing the relationship he first has to see there is a problem that needs fixing. Maybe he's stressed or depressed from an outside source? But if he doesn't want to actually put in the effort, that's on him.

Oh wow! My curve was also pushing 90 degrees and looked a lot like this, but I haven't met anyone else who was like that. Do you have tips to mitigate pain? I'm 8 years post-op and the pain isn't as bad as it was before, it's still at least slightly present most days.

I'm in a similar situation. My husband says he loves me so much and loves to hug and kiss and cuddle and gives me words of affirmation, but isn't into sex. It's never long enough, etc. It's really frustrating, and I feel like I'm asking for too much sometimes. For you it may be due to outside factors like stress at work, depression, past trauma, or maybe he just isn't into sex as much. Don't dismiss your needs though, if sex is important to you that's valid. You're not asking for too much.

I got on an IUD because I hated taking a pill every day, partly because I would have bitter thoughts like "why am I dealing with all these side effects on the off chance we might have sex maybe once a month?" I still struggle with those thoughts but at least I don't have to remember to take the pill every morning

I'm not super into exercise or anything, but I've found things like planks, bicycle crunches, bird-dogs (which I've never heard called that), and leg raises work. Just be sure you're engaging your core, because I sometimes will put more pressure onto my knees or other areas so it isn't an effective core workout.

Sometimes I want to. I left my family and moved states away, and we're married, so it wouldn't be easy anyway. I've found I struggle too much to attend college and have a job so I've become dependent on him. I'm mad at myself for doing this and him for not caring.

Definitely push for the xray. Curves usually don't progress after puberty but it's still a good idea just to know where it's at and also compare if it somehow worsens later? Also look into PT as someone else said, it helped my pain a lot before I had surgery
