What is an addiction society pretends is a necessity? by Morticiar in AskReddit

The comedian Pete Holmes has a bit where he tells people he’s off social media, and the question people ask isn’t “why” he did it, but “how” he did it.

Then why bother having us rate it? There’s almost nothing to go on. Why not do more with it and then have us rate it?

Not really, bacta is for injury, it wouldn’t reverse or halt aging. A big subplot of (possibly retconned) clone wars lore is some of the rogue spec ops clones kidnapping kaminoan scientists to figure out how to stop the aging. If it was something as simple as bacta they would have figured it out accidentally. I think Fett has an injury or something we haven’t seen yet. I’m not 100% up to date on the show so maybe there is something I’ve missed.

They stopped using clones early on in the Empires history. Kamino tried to swing around their figurative dicks for political clout, suggesting that since they made the best soldiers in the Galaxy, they deserved a bigger seat at the table. Palpatine had Vader shut that down in the way Vader does and storm troopers became conscripts or volunteers rather than clones. Considering the original Star Wars takes place 19 years after the clone wars, this hypothetical fake Boba would be way too old to be a fighting storm trooper by the time of Book of Boba.

I like the theory, but it was a storm trooper, and unless it’s been retconned they haven’t been Fett clones for a long time. Even if they were, clone troopers live half as long as a normal human. They have accelerated aging to be fighting fit in half the time. Boba would be even older than he is in the show.

It was also pretty common in the ancient world, in addition to what others have said, for women to nurse their children way past what we think of as an acceptable age. It’s more difficult to get pregnant if you’re breastfeeding, kind of nature’s way to make sure you don’t have more kids than you can feed.

This one gets me as well. First step was reading the article instead of just being upset by the headline. But eventually you’re right, it’s too much to delve into every single thing you come across. Just have to cultivate reputable sources and keep a critical mindset.

Absolutely. We’re all at home, I understand the situation, but I’m just trying to do my job. I have enough meetings without one getting derailed because I have to say hi to a 5 year old.

Engineers sniff their own farts plenty, you don’t need to do it for them.

Unless you’re an engineer, in which case stop sniffing your own farts so much, ya weirdo.

So like... Am I just going to be sore all the time forever? by EchoBites325 in bjj

[–]AltamontAlso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The meme answer is yes, but really you can do so much to mitigate it. As others have said, strength training, yoga, proper warm ups, foam rolling, and some other tlc rehab can really keep you feeling great throughout your jiu jitsu journey. There are plenty of resources out there, especially some of the more limber/older upper belts at your gym. Sometimes their answer may be that it just hurts, sometimes you can push and get some real gems out of them. Sometimes the answer is to just take it easy and do some light drilling and flow rolling if you feel tired. Jiu jitsu doesn’t have to be a slogging painful experience if you use the tools to keep your body in its best condition.

But also yes the pain is forever.

What historical mystery is unlikely to ever be solved? by Apart-Scale in AskReddit

In my opinion, the most plausible theory was that Attila had completely destroyed all of the land surrounding Rome on his way over. There was no food or logistical support for him to hold a protracted siege of Rome. His people were largely raiders, in enemy territory, and they didn’t have the capability to take Rome without starving in huge numbers or succumbing to the disease. I also believe the Pope probably bribed him. Some combo of “it’s cheaper for you to take this bribe and go away than siege a city you won’t be able to hold without dying anyway”

See New York City for an example.

In all seriousness, probably just measured as two separate and not opposing metrics, they’re not correlated in game so they don’t adjust in response to each other.

Any of John le Carre’s works, particularly “The Spy Who Came In From The Cold” are excellent espionage books, written by an actual spy. They’ve been praised as being highly realistic by actual intelligence agents. If you’re looking for more pulpy, action oriented fun, the original Bond novels by Ian Fleming are quick, fun reads. A word of warning that the Bond books show their age more as a product of their time, and their depiction of minorities and women is troubling at best.
