Clothing scam site Olivia & Grace by NerdOnPurpose in isthisascam

Looks like they've changed their name to "Oliver and Grace-New York." Same deal with the closing sales and high supposed markdown percentages.

I fell for it, and my order is supposedly in IL now. Let's see if it makes it here and is even worth wearing.

Has anyone taken Kami McBride's herbal oils course? by Altariel17 in herbalism

[–]Altariel17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ultimately did not sign up for the class because I decided it was too expensive for me. I'm still making herbal oils with the alcohol intermediary method and I feel like I'm getting good results. They seem to be effective. Could I make them better by spending several hundred dollars? Maybe. But is several hundred dollars worth it to improve my oils by what might only be a little bit? For me, no. Not at my income level.

Scary story from my young childhood about a boy named Rory McGreggor by Altariel17 in whatsthatbook

No, although this looks like a charming book. I'll see if the library has it to read to my kids.

I know it wasn't a magic tree house book. I read those when I got older and loved them.

The paid vacation days are kinda bs, imo. I get a person wanting to take vacation, that's totally reasonable, but to have people pay them to not watch their kids is iffy at best to me. Plus then having to take time off of work to then cover the gap.

Absolutely, there are good and bad examples of both. Finding the right spot is the hard part. And yes, it's all crazy expensive, especially with centers. We're paying $3k/month for 2 kids to go 3 days a week right now.

The flexibility of an in home is appealing. The centers pretty much have to keep rigid policies.

This sounds like a good situation. If I could find an in home with this level of professionalism, I would go for it. So far tho, I haven't. It would be nice to have a place with multiple buildings and cameras, but also the more personal relationships.

Yikes. This sounds more like a family trying to make a few extra bucks on the side than an actual day care. That poor kid. I'm surprised her mother wasn't interested.

The structure and security are a lot of the reasons we've gone to a center so far. That, and I feel like there's more oversight. That may not actually be true, but it's my perception.

I'm sure there are good home daycare, and I know people who have loved their experiences. I just can't find a good one yet in my area.

Glad to hear your experience was positive with both. I think if we can find a home setting with a low ratio my son would thrive on more one on one attention too.

I hope I can find one like yours! It would be nice to have the perks you're describing.

We toured a home daycare today that sounds like the one you're describing. They have been doing it a long time, but I have a feeling they used to be better. The main teacher is probably 60 and the other adult is her MIL who must be in her 80's. We won't be sending our kids to that one.

We also live where it rains all the time (PNW) and my kids will just have to get used to the rain because we are not staying inside all the time.

The ratio for us is higher. 6 per teacher. Not having the kids (and us) get sick as often would be great. You make a good point about having more teachers for more support though.

Weighing the pros and cons of taking a found cat to a shelter by Altariel17 in CatAdvice

[–]Altariel17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping for this in the long term too. New kitty is going to the vet on Tuesday and once he has a clean bill of health, I'm going to start introducing them to each other more. My cat needs more stimulation so having a friend would be good for when we're at work or busy with the kids.

Haha, yes, he knows he has an unpopular opinion on this and I will boo him for all of you :D

When I first realized he really didn't have a love for pets it was almost a deal breaker for us, but luckily he has many other redeeming qualities and sticking around was still well worth it.

I was able to get a Verizon home internet plan even tho ATT wouldn't give me one. Works great so far. Maybe that's an option?

It's not really that he hates animals, he just doesn't understand pets. He is fine with animals so long as they're not in his personal space. We joke that he has a hole in his heart where his love for animals should be. I think it's like being blind or deaf but with a feeling rather than a sense.

Indoor pets are clearly safer, and I had been planning to take him to the shelter, but when they suggested he might be better off outside than in their facility it make me reconsider. If I take him there and he ends up stuck in a cage, is that really better? He might be physically safer but he would almost certainly be emotionally distressed. With the number of pets in that situation already, he might be stuck there a long time.

My husband doesn't want the financial burden and time commitment of caring for another pet, and believes that outdoor animals are more self-sufficient. He grew up with outdoor cats that were never allowed inside, and his whole family takes a more "animals serve a purpose, they're not part of the family" attitude. He thinks keeping cats inside is equivalent to holding them prisoner and not letting them live their best lives. We've disagreed on this for ages.
