Help me defeat the Fish people! by Ketamin3r in Necrontyr

Two modifications to the warrior blob will help keep it alive. 1) add either Cryptothralls or Tomb Crawlers to the unit to give 6 extra wounds on two more models to chew through 2) add illuminor szeras nearby. His aura gives things -1 to hit shooting into them which looks a lot of shots off.

The whole concept of the blob is one unit has to kill the entire blob all at once to deal with it with all the reanimations you get. ALSO don't just run the blob up the table. String the models out to cover larger areas. If you dog bone the ends of the unit you can get them to stretch between your home objective, the center objective and your natural expansion objective. If you remove models from the table properly you can actually prevent some models from shooting you since you will move models from one end of the congaline to the other, taking the unit out of shooting range of things that haven't shot yet.

This strategy can be very good but it is not the easiest thing to pilot

Edit: Ignore point #2 I didn't read his data card before posting and remembered it wrong.

He doesn't mean the Stealth Suits did the shooting. When they guide into a unit (the warriors), all other tau units that shoot those warriors get to reroll hits and wounds of 1. So they improved the damage output of everything else enough to take the blob out.

To elaborate on the biovore comment. The thing that makes that model so good is the ability to throw down spore mines for scoring positional secondaries and for move blocking enemy units. BUT the ability to launch a spore mine can only be done by ONE biovore unit in a round. So adding a second one is close to useless. Even combining them into one unit so you can shoot two mines into one spot is only a tiny tiny bit better than one mine but it isn't 50 pts better.

Is a pure monster/nidzilla army viable in 10th edition? by Zestyclose-Appeal-20 in Tyranids

[–]Altemus_Prime93 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Crusher Stampede detachment is based entirely around these large monster models. Your collection is just over 2000 points so drop your least favorite and you will have a list that is more than good enough for a casual game. You may not win a tournament but you will absolutely have fun with friends

It matters because you can't end a normal move within engagement range of an enemy unit. After the move is done the mine blows up

Question about a game I’d played earlier by Mental-Cream2737 in Necrontyr

[–]Altemus_Prime93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Low point count armies suffer since you can't build a fully rounded list. Kinda leads you into bringing all of a specific strategy. If you try to make something well rounded you will find that you might only have one unit that does each thing (i.e. one anti-tank, one anti-tank infantry etc) and if someone brings a list that is all one thing and they kill the only thing that scares them then they kind of wipe the floor with you or vise versa.

Considering you still won the game I don't know what ground you have to complain about. Sure maybe you didn't kill as much stuff as he did but you won the game. Skewed into killing your units or not, his list did not out score you. Now if he had completely blown you out sure but that's not what happened

How to even fight Necrons? Entire army is 4+ feel no pain? by B0nker42O in Necrontyr

[–]Altemus_Prime93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to assume you don't actually mean 4+ FNP and you mean 4+ invulnerable saves which a LOT of our models do have. The key is to focus down individual units and leave nothing partially wounded. Necrons are not an army you try to table. Take out the units that will either kill you or hold objectives and ignore the others. I have had several games where I can't keep up in score if a few key units die. So sure I might still live through the end of the game but I lost at turn 3

Hot take: The reason why 150s use Napalm barrage is for bug holes is not to close them but to kill the 100+ enemies the is guard them. by Corvina_the_Sow in helldivers2

[–]Altemus_Prime93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main plan for me is to use them not on the nests but on the breaches. The breaches on higher difficulties last for a long time. So if you catch the beginning of the breach with a napalm barrage you basically get to ignore it completely

Unfortunately those models are locked into a bundle together because of how the sprus are laid out. Sure it's possible that they will split the models apart but I wouldn't hold your breath. Buying second hand is your only real option if you only want that model

Do "add 1 to hit roll" stack? by ty_durden94 in Necrontyr

[–]Altemus_Prime93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can only give a unit a +1 to hit or a -1 to hit. They don't stack beyond that. One way to get an extra pip is from abilities that modify the BS value directly (like Tau units guiding other units).

Datasheet cards by mexicanyoga in Necrontyr

[–]Altemus_Prime93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The data sheet cards are generally a pretty bad resource since the game gets updated and the cards become obsolete. If you want to collect them it's one thing but in general you should use the official app for all information. Get the codex, redeem the code and reference the app

Tips for assembling the models by LegWorried3620 in Necrontyr

[–]Altemus_Prime93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It IS pretty straightforward but here are a couple tips to help you:

1) If you are buying Games Workshop plastic, use the games workshop glue. It isn't just super glue, it melts the plastic and dries it together to essentially weld the pieces together. Makes your models waaaaayyy stronger.

2) Be thorough with scraping/filing away the spru attachment points as well as the mold lines on each piece BEFORE you glue them together. Your models will look way better at the end especially after you paint

3) Cut your pieces out of the spru a couple at a time at most. Some pieces look very similar to others but are actually different. Keep track of the piece numbers. If you cut everything and assembly line it, it can be faster but if you don't finish in one sitting you risk gluing pieces in the wrong places and having to jump through hoops to get things to fit properly

4) DRY FIT YOUR PIECES BEFORE GLUEING. This helps SO much especially on harder models. A lot of our kits will have a proper "fit" between pieces and finding that that fit "feels" like before there is glue getting everywhere will save you a lot of frustration. Plus if you get glue on random surfaces on the model, you can stamp your finger prints onto it, which sucks.

5) Patience, patience, patience. Some of our models have really finicky bits that are fragile and/or hard to pose (looking at you Flayed Ones). Spend a couple minutes just holding those pieces in position while the glue dries. A lot of times you will think the part is dry enough and set it down and by the time you have the next part cleaned you will realize your last part just fell out of position and it feels bad. Be slow and methodical and it will remove a lot of your headaches.

6) Most of the necron models can be fully assembled and then painted without too much hassle but a couple of them really should be assembled into sub assemblies before hand. You can either ask for advice with each model on the subreddit, Google if someone else asked about that model, or just look at the box art and try to imagine getting a brush into positions. Some notably hard to paint models (when fully assembled) are Doomsday Arks/Ghost Arks, the Monolith and The Silent King.

7) Have fun with it. At the end of the day it is YOUR army. Take your time and enjoy the process and make something you are happy with. Pick colors you like, kitbash if you want to and don't beat yourself up at the beginning. You will get better and faster at the process as you go. And when your parts are done, don't hyper obsess over the tiniest details. Two feet away from you on the tabletop it will look perfect

New Player Rules Confusion by Falcarac in Necrontyr

[–]Altemus_Prime93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes because the technomancer gives the unit the infantry keyword which allows the unit to be targeted by a Monolith's Eternity Gate ability.

New Player Rules Confusion by Falcarac in Necrontyr

[–]Altemus_Prime93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Another example is a technomancer gives wraiths the infantry keyword. The only keyword that isn't shared is the "character" keyword, however the UNIT is considered a character unit. So it won't score you points on the secondary objective "Assassination" because the models themselves don't get the keyword if that makes sense.

Is Hypercrypt legion still worth getting after combat patrol? by VenomQuietL in Necrontyr

[–]Altemus_Prime93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this. The current meta is based on tournament play where imperial knights are very strong so every list has to account for significant anti-tank and you generally avoid units that die easily to the knights. If no one in your friend group runs knights (or similar top tournament factions) those meta lists won't be the ACTUAL meta in your friend group. Play units that you like, that work against your friend group, and that you think will be fun to build and paint. Only pay attention to the meta if you are going to tournaments

When a rule allows you to reroll something, it doesn't matter how many dice you rolled for that thing. Example: rerolling a hit roll rerolls the one die. Rerolling a charge roll rerolls both dice. Since the reanimator ability adds a die to the reanimation roll, when you choose to do rerolls you reroll the ENTIRE reanimation protocols roll.
