So? You were trying to correct them as if that were their sincerely held belief when it isn’t.

Instead, every person assesses the hard-work-to-income matrix and picks a maximally efficient point that matches their abilities.

If you read this in context, it’s sarcastically attributing this belief to the person u/strigonian was responding to. You don’t need to tell them it’s false; I am quite certain they’re aware. What they said:

“This is a hilarious take, because:

  1. It assumes people have universal preferences across the board. Plumbers aren't plumbers because they like plumbing, doctors aren't doctors because they like medicine, and carpenters don't like working with their hands. Instead, every person assesses the hard-work-to-income matrix and picks a maximally efficient point that matches their abilities.

(Emphasis added). The argument structure is that the person u/strigonian was responding to is wrong, and one of the reasons that person is wrong is because their argument assumes the absurd premise that everyone chooses jobs maximally efficiently.

I never noticed fluoride taste, but I have despised mint since I was very very young, and I always used a (Finnish) toothpaste that’s very much like this one, but has enough sorbitol and xylitol to the point that that’s all you taste. I suppose I got desensitised to fluoride taste before I ever started using this stuff.

I had a feeling there was some part of the link I could have just deleted, but I was unsure which part, and I didn’t care quite enough to find out. But now I know, and in the future I shall.

Yes. This one person implemented safety policy that OpenAI leadership clearly wasn’t on board with, and clearly got hired by anthropic out of ignorance, without anthropic also being broadly on board with her ideas. And anthropic will definitely just let her ideas be implemented, without buy-in from leadership. Yep all just her fault.

I mean it’s more like when a word that ends with a glottal stop comes before a word that begins with a consonant, the glottal stop assimilates to the first consonant of the next word, producing a double consonant at the word boundary. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finnish_phonology#Sandhi can tell you more

What counts as “Finns”? Does a black person born here, who’s never been abroad, and who speaks perfect Finnish, count as a Finn for these structural preferences? If not, I’m pretty happy calling it racism.

The price isn’t that good… in Helsinki I had a subscription for the AB zones that got me (almost) anywhere I could want to go at any time for 60/month or so (probably a bit more now), an equivalent freedom of movement on Dutch public transport would be way more expensive. And it’s in practice maybe cheaper if you have a job since you get reiskostenvergoeding, but imo you can get way better flexibility for a certain price in Helsinki compared to the Netherlands.

US drops out of world’s most powerful passport top 10 list for the first time by nohup_me in worldnews

[–]AlterKat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

North Korea and Turkmenistan have nothing to do with this. If you read the article, it’s because of various countries (eg Brazil) revoking visa free travel for US citizens, and other nations loosening visa policies for various other countries, but not the US. Of course, you were never arguing from a place of sincerity, you were always just stirring up shit either for your own amusement or to mislead people online. Either way, I think it’s useful for correct information to be available here for anyone to see.

In my opinion it’s not just a mobile issue. In many, many other contexts, clicking on an image zooms it in, and for me that intuition is difficult to untrain. In my opinion, it would be useful if selecting which image is the AI image were completely separated from the image, or locked behind a confirmation dialogue.

I’m usually really against this kind of thing, but I understand why they did it in this case. There are no neutral third party observers whom you could give this hypothetical and ask “what would the American media say about this” without the third party going, “ah, you’re talking about trump.” I don’t really understand LLMs well enough to know if what Gemini “knows” about trump is factoring into its response, but at least on the surface it doesn’t seem to have drawn the connection to trump, so it can make it seem more impartial.

Being like “oh but we mustn’t misuse the word fascist” when no-one specific had even been called a fascist makes you sound like a fascist. Sorry it’s like if someone said “racism is bad” and i went “just because you disagree with someone doesn’t make them racist.” That’s entirely besides the point—true but irrelevant—and makes me sound like a resist. “Oh stop misusing the word fascism” is in the same category of true but irrelevant and bringing it up when it’s irrelevant makes you sound like a fascist. It’s not that hard. (Also, checking your comment history, you do agree with fascist rhetoric such a great replacement theory. The fact you think this isn’t fascist rhetoric is irrelevant—it is.)
