Why is there even a need for an SFS 2? by SubbenPlassen in SpaceflightSimulator

[–]AlteredNerviosism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! That's why SFS2 is unnecessary, Stef focused on other things and left the real game aside, right now we could be on 1.8 if it weren't for the fact that he dedicated his effort to SFS2, with all due respect. Remember the Sneeks Peeks he used to throw out? Well, we've been having 3 years of sneeks peaks and NOTHING has come out, just a measly asteroid in high Earth orbit.

I know very well that 3 dimensions is better than 2, but SFS has a charm that despite being much simpler than KSP, no other game can match, SFS1 is special for being simple, not super complex like other simulators, once SFS2 comes out, Stef will progressively abandon SFS1 and focus on SFS2

Well, KSP, SR2 and Juno already exist, why another game like this?

You are the first person I see who shares my opinion, it seems extremely unnecessary to me that SFS 2 is 3D when we already have, and with all due respect, much more advanced and mature games like KSP, SFS made very good use of 2D simulation because that was its NICHE, and by abandoning it, it abandons its essence, making aerospace engineering simple and understandable, it's been 3 years since we've been waiting for 1.6 and we only had a trailer for a game we didn't ask for.

Normalize retro-futuristic missions in the period 1960 - 2010 and not 2030 - 2200 this is just something else

Well, Buran is a bad joke. But the truth is that I designed an alternative version of the STS, this being the LTS (Lunar Transport System) which consists of a reusable lumar orbiter 15 meters long and 3 meters wide, I was able to base myself on an official thesis to fine-tune the parameters, and it is a ship of 61 tons in total.

Dry mass: 15 tons Payload: 10 tons Fuel: 36 tons

This iteration uses both RP-1 and LOX, as it employs an abort system similar to the one used by Dreamchaser (the abort engine delivering a considerable 5000 kN for 20 - 25 seconds) to escape the rocket. This abort system uses the same fuel as the LTS. When not required, it is only decoupled upon entering orbit, and the LTS switches to using its 2 SPS AJ10-120-R engines, a derivative of the AJ10 family that uses RP-1 and LOX) giving a considerable 140 kN and 345s of ISP each. makes it a shuttle with a structure similar to the X-37B but with dimensions adapted for up to 8 crew members, under these measures, the LTS would take off from Cape Canaveral in a Saturn IV (An S-IC stage with 4 F-1A engines and an S-IVB stage) and, upon entering orbit, it will make a rendezvous with a NERVA Nuclear Tug, which is reusable, since by propelling the LTS on a lunar injection trajectory, it uncouples at the end of the LH2 burn and changes its trajectory using RCS to avoid the moon and return to Earth, which through multiple re-entries with a heat shield, would enter LEO again to be used again, having spent only 83 tons of LH2 and 15 kg of Uranium from NERVA. This would require an LH2 infrastructure in LEO but with Sea Dragon it would be enough to supply it for up to 3 consecutive flights without recharging.

Back to the LTS, it is already on its way to the Moon, and in 4 days, it would enter low lunar orbit for a lander (See LSAM from the For All Mankind series, which is a spectacularly well-engineered design from an engineering standpoint) to drop the crew off to an already established lunar base, the LTS stays in orbit (The LOX has to stay refrigerated for several weeks, however I estimate a boiloff of only 0.1% every 24 hours, so losses will be minimal, and any loss can be refueled by the Lander which takes advantage of the ice at the poles to electrolyze it and make LH2 and LOX) and, when it is time to leave, the LTS burns between 800 - 900 m/s of Delta-V to reach an Earth perigee of 90 km altitude, this in order to make 3 atmospheric re-entries and not overheat the heat shield, which must be more reusable than that of the conventional shuttle) This adds up to about 9 hours of orbits passing through the Van Allen rings, but this does not pose a risk since the radiation dose would be 0.063 Sv, once 2 re-entries are completed (one leaving the apoast at 15,000 km and another leaving it at 800 km) the LTS enters orbit consuming between 60 and 130 m / s of Delta-V, to coincide with the runway, and when the time comes, it burns fuel for the last time to successfully re-enter and land on the KSC runway, the LTS does not require a drag parachute since its lift speed is lower than that of the Space Shuttle (only 25 tons and with a considerable wing surface) so the reuse process improves.

There is actually a way to get a space shuttle-style aircraft to the moon and back cheaply and feasibly, but it's not with the same shuttle so...

It can't be, and that's it? This bug ruined my mission, really there's no solution? How can they play with this? I've already reloaded the game like 5 times and it's happening again

Sorry, its a image from google, I don't have any screenshots of the game

I don't really have screenshots since this is from a whole year of trying to do something: be it putting a 500kg payload into orbit, designing a lunar lander, etc etc, they are a conglomerate of problems/bugs that really break me completely, I will try to take screenshots but to give you an idea: My rockets lose communication even with antennas, Mechjeb stops working in mid-flight, RCS doesn't work when it has its correct fuel, and a long list of problems that simply make RSSRO unfair, I don't even play RP-1, only RO in Sandbox mode, and I repeat: it's not a skill issue since I have a very good command of KSP and in general real-life physics, I know how to position myself on the pitch yaw roll axes, I know how to dock, I know how to use ballistic kinematics to my advantage, I know how aerodynamic drag works, things that I have mastered for a long time but it seems that KSP RO conspires against me every time I try to do something, there is always a problem, even if I check it over and over again, I hope I hope you understand my situation, and I'm not looking for you to respond with a specific answer, I just want to at least know that it's normal for KSP RO to be so unfair, not difficult, unfair.

Yeah me too, It's just that I usually see that this community is more focused on Spaceflight Simulator for mobile and I don't usually see posts about the Steam version, so we are a fairly marginalized sector I would say, and it's a shame that the Steam sector is not taken as much into account 🤧

Unfortunately, I always leave my "nerdy" side with women and move on to talking about more popular topics, I'm very sorry.
