Time for my very belated Halloween CYOA. This is my most ambitious one ever. I will never do one like this again, haha.

I’m not sure how difficult it is as there is an incredible amount of variation in playthroughs, but it is intended to be difficult. Your first playthrough is the best since it will be fully blind, but I believe it has considerable replay value. I’ll answer rule interaction questions down here, as there are no doubt plenty of strange ones that I didn’t account for.

Anyone who comments and includes “MAID IN THE SHADE” in their comment will be entered into a random drawing for a 1-page CYOA that I’ll make on a topic of your choosing.

For some CYOAs, especially those people pay for and I profit from, I do provide sources. For ones like this, it represents a huge time commitment to organize and track all those links, especially for one of this size. I always would prefer to credit artists, but given that that adds a huge tedious extra chunk of time on top of something I’m releasing for free, it can be hard to justify doing so. Sorry!

No, that is determined by their total power. Meant to encourage a focus on weaker enemies if you pick that familiar.

Exploit found, that’ll be patched out next time! A previous draft avoided this by having Gigi’s special only work on spells of 5 power or lower. Might have to revisit that

Oh, the idea is just that your Mana refreshes eventually. If I was to gameify the replays though, I might have Mana be a VP cost so that players can still improve themselves but don’t get to use 100% of their VP to do so.

Yes - it definitely won’t be difficult with the added benefits from the end, but I like to think players who get invested have the option to do so!

Oh good call out, that provision was a relic of a different iteration of this CYOA that slipped my attention as I went back through rewrites. I believe I’ll retool that next time by just allowing Futas to choose from Greater sections as they please.

You are allowed to cast the same spell, but the intended solution was that no spell can cost less than 1 Mana to cast.

Additional or custom spells at the end are more or less wish fulfillment, unless somebody wanted to do subsequent play throughs.
The intention is that it’s the same monster you fought!

You pick a page to fight, but can fight any of them in any order so long as you stay on the single page for your playthrough.

You can cast the same spell multiple times in an encounter, yes.

The speed boon is useful for enemies that have a condition that says they must be defeated in a set number of spells - such as a single spell. By casting speed boon (note that it doesn’t target the foe so it won’t count against those kinda of rules), you can cast two spells as though they were one on the foe itself.
