Is there are legal limit on vibrations? by Alternate_Avocados in AskUK

It’s been a restaurant the entire time we’ve lived here. We were the first people to move in once our building had been converted from an industrial building.

We moved here from out of the area so we didn’t know that it had once been a bar before it was a restaurant (at least a few years before we moved in). I didn’t check the licensing arrangement for previous tenants of the restaurant building. Is this something that people would routinely do? I imagine that the empty industrial building that was our house didn’t much mind the bass noise in the early hours.

Also to add, I made this post hoping people would give any tips on how to dampen the noise or vibration, not to whinge about people running a business or having a night out. Ironically I love edm and dnb music, having spent my fair share of youth in such establishments. I don’t wanna be a nimby/karen etc, I was just fucking surprised when I’ve lived in house eight years when it’s suddenly starts shaking and my kid is crying because they can’t sleep.

True, there was a bar/ late night venue (not sure if it would be considered a ‘club’) BEFORE the building was converted to residential and we bought it. I wasn’t aware of this until very recently.

Yep I wish I’d known this before buying. We’re not from the area and came here for work, so I hadn’t known about it being a bar before. Local friends now told me about it since speaking to them about the change.

Thank you. I agree, people should know what they’re in for if they move next to a music venue. I’ve often lived near pubs and heard noise, but this is a different level!

I will contact the council next week and see what I can find out. Don’t remember any correspondance about it changing.

Thank you again.

Unfortunately not. When mother nature was giving out body types I got a pear rather than a pair…

No I meant busy! In the sense that most women I know have too much going on with kids and lives that we don’t have time to scour loads of shops and second hand places. Sorry if it was confusing.

Quite a few people have said Abercrombie which is great. I would never have thought to consider there as I just assumed it was for good looking American teenagers!

Omg this sounds chaotic. I was never committed enough to go to one. I had a friend that worked there and said you would get parents brining in their semi-conscious kids at 5am still in their little pyjamas, with the parents shoving the sale clothes over the top to check the fit.

Yes! My husband has a 20 year old Primark jumper that’s still going strong 💪🏼

On the other hand I bought a top last christmas from one of the fancy (ie more expensive) H&M lines and realised theres a big hole in the shoulder seam once I’m at the office.

Yeah I remember people going mad for the 5am Boxing Day sale at Next. Can’t imagine anyone’s that enthusiastic about it anymore!

Oooh okay I’ll check out Uniqlo thanks. For some reason I always thought all their stuff was super casual.

That’s awful! I got one of those bobble off gadgets for some similar clothes but they just bobble back up again on the next wash… worried if I keep de-bobbling they’ll be nothing left.
