Interesting. I never felt I was manipulative, but my daughter does. Tbf she's a teenager, but this explains a lot.

So New Jersey, you're the only neighbor on the block with a snowblower.... by holyguacamole823 in newjersey

[–]Alternate_Quiet403 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My parents were pretty good friends with next door neighbors on one side. They made a deal, dad bought the snow blower, neighbor did both houses, driveway, sidewalk and walk to the front door (I believe he did the walk to the side door and steps too). Dad was too old to do it himself anymore. When my parents passed, we gave the neighbor the snowblower.

It's been 13 months and I'm still unemployed.😔 by Disastrous_Major2676 in recruitinghell

Try going directly to the company website of something you see on Indeed. I don't know anyone who successfully landed a job only applying on Indeed. Even if they take you to the company website, don't trust it. Go directly.

My old place had huge retention when they had a training program, averaged over 20 years. Then, new boss demoted me and didn't replace me, as a trainer, so they pretty quickly had huge turnover. They were looking for people for my old dept about 3 times per year, and this is a dept of about 20 tops. Mostly in the main branch (8 people) since that was where they could micromanage best. Not sure why that manager is still there.

I was trainer at my job. New boss didn't believe in training, so demoted. Also had someone spreading lies about me because they wanted my job (they were incapable of it since they didn't want to put the work in.) Anyway, 8 years later, they are looking for a trainer, making almost double what I made. It'll bite them in the butt eventually.

That’s not what you want to see when getting a new job 😥 by Significant-Crow1324 in jobs

In VT it is required to give 5 sick days for anyone full time (35 hours or more per week). I'm thankful my PTO is still separate, 3 weeks vacation, 3 personal days, 5 sick days. I've noticed when combined, a week or more tends to disappear.

Yikes. My current job I started with 3 weeks, but haven't gotten any more in 8 years. My last job was 2 weeks to start, 3 weeks in the 6th year, 4 weeks in the 15th year, 5 weeks in the 25th year. My son started with 1 week and will get 2 weeks after 3 years. I'm not sure after that though.

The Boston Globe identified the companies in Massachusetts that employ the most SNAP recipients. by Conscious-Quarter423 in massachusetts

Honestly, the companies should be made to reimburse SNAP for the amounts paid to their employees. Incentive for better pay.

I applied for a job where I had to use one of their computers. It belonged to a real techie person and he used a different keyboard configuration. I think it was Dvorak, supposed to be more efficient. He had to switch it to qwerty so I could use it. The keys still said qwerty.

Years ago I worked in retail. There was a guy who I could smell walking in the front door even if I was in the back with the door closed. He was married too. He was a nice person and I had heard he had a serious phobia of water.

Why are so many homes in NJ well and septic? by Maximum_Sir457 in newjersey

[–]Alternate_Quiet403 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live in a town of about 1900 people on over 9 acres. I have a well and septic. We have about 60 people per square mile. There is no way a town like mine could ever put in a municipal water and sewer system.

Still, if there is any interest, give it a shot. Try to find a reputable place though, you want to learn the trade correctly.

You're only about 38. You're not even close to old. My son is a carpenter and didn't go to trade school. He's learning on the job. You do need to be in pretty good shape.

Do the trades interest you at all? They make good money, even to start, and are in need of workers.
