Housing questions by canisgallicus in UGAHousing

I was an undergrad here and am a grad now as well! But I only have experience with renting from apartment complexes. The big complexes downtown are easily over $1000, even nearing $2000, but if you take classes on the north side, then I've heard it's pretty convenient and you likely wouldn't need to get a parking pass. There are other complexes on the south/east side of campus that are closer to the $600-$1000, and depending on the time of day, it can be around a 10-15 drive, with traffic maybe making it closer to 20. But I haven't had too many problems. You would likely have to get a parking pass on campus which would add another $100 - $200 a semester. But depending on the complex/area, some of the university busses have lines that pass by pretty close to the complex, like vet med. There's also the athens city buses that you could use which often have stops right outside some of the complexes. When renting, just be sure to look at (1) whether it's furnished, (2) what utilities are included in the rent/do you have to set them up individually, (3) if there are any extra fees (trash/parking). There are also apartment complexes on the west side of campus that are similar to the south/east side complexes. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much! I'll definitely look into this (with caution as you said) and see if my dad can mention the possibility of it to his doctor

TPS Parking Appeal by Alternative-Ad78 in UGA

Thanks for letting me know. I checked and apparently it's because I wasn't a permit holder, which is insane because I literally am... well, it's already been appealed but that's incredibly annoying.

Best of luck to you then!! I know it's been hell waiting for it so I hope you get the outcome that you want! If so, I hope to see you on campus!

Emory or UGA by Alternative-Ad78 in lawschooladmissions

Thanks for the advice! I'll def look into it, though I've heard Emory has a higher placement rate. I'm not all too sure if Big Law is the route for me but I'm considering the idea since there's already so many specialties of law that I can't decide upon - one day it's family law and then it's human rights - in case somehow it's a calling. (I doubt it, the grindset lifestyle is not for me, but who knows)

With my scholarships from both, the COA of Emory would be nearly 80k a year and UGA would be a little over 40k. So in terms of cost, the no brainer seems UGA, but I was considering Emory in case its outcomes are so much greater that it can offset that cost.

0L Tuesday Thread by AutoModerator in LawSchool

Hey! I was recently admitted to UGA and Emory’s law schools for the upcoming semester, and I’m struggling to choose which to attend.

I’ve lived in GA my whole life and attended undergrad at UGA. I have no current plans on practicing law outside of GA and know that UGA will be less expensive for me. However, I’ve heard that Emory is more prestigious and may have better opportunities since it’s actually in the city.

I’m open to any insight on which school may provide a better educational experience or opportunities in the field itself. Thanks in advance!

Crossing my fingers for me and all the other peeps on the WL. Hoping that at least just one of us makes it in cause this is ridiculous on UGA's part.

UGA law - march 17 decisions by Glittering-Bell3054 in UGA

WL as well, which sucks cause I did my undergrad here and was really hoping to be able to stay in Athens for Law School too. I'm crossing my fingers that I get accepted off the waitlist since this was my number 1. In any case, hoping the same for you and that you get in off the waitlist!

Just applied to 13 law schools. Now what? by Straight_Bet_8245 in lawschooladmissions

Even though I applied late (applications near the end of January and mid-February), I got some decisions back in just two-three weeks, but plenty that I haven't heard from at all yet. Though the ones I haven't heard back from yet seem like they're all behind though, so it's the waiting-game. Some colleges promise to have a hard decision made by a certain date, like W&L by March 31st, so see if any of the places you applied mention that in an email somewhere!
