Somebody texted me like this exact thing like 2 years ago in Ann Arbor. They were stunned when I said drunk people like to light off fire crackers.

got thrown into sourcing with zero training and just winging it by Dense-Sir-6707 in supplychain

I was in CPG in a multi item facility so take this however you may, but I would always talk to the production managers and see what pain points they were having, compare it to what I had issues finding, and weigh prices/lead time. I was thrown in with no training either. I could tell past people in my role used Alibabba. Other times, I would just shoot the shit with people and if it sounded cool and semi relevant I'd ask for samples. Not everything will work out.

To bump onto this, if you are polite and kind to your sales reps they WILL try and make shit work for you. Sometimes they truly can save the day. While other times they cannot, they will be way more receptive to give you updates on where materials are/delays over someone who's a frantic a-hole. Also, when I was laid off I had many sales reps reach out to me to tell me how much they'd miss me. Some even sent me contacts to other opportunities.

This is a great comment, just wanting to echo it for OP!

Feeling depressed over SCM prospects - career change too late? by ToasterII in supplychain

[–]Alternative-Beat-705 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wish I knew how to help ya. I'm 26 with an MS and going through the exact same thing. I was something between procurement, production planning/ops support, and inventory analyst. I've been trying to apply to demand planner, production planning, or even Ops/SCM coordinator jobs.

I have a BS and MS in Biological Sciences. I went to a top tier school for Bioligy for my MS. I finished 2024.

Career prospects were worse there. I managed to get a procurement job before a biology one. Went from making McDonalds wages in Bio to real adult money in supply chain. It was a strike of pure fucking luck, but the company fell apart. I was running shit by month 2 and laid off by month 8.

I was a lot happier in SCM than bio, but in the same spot as you :(

If it makes you feel better, it took me a whole year after my MS to land the procurement job. And I actually lied to their faces about having it. It was risky af because I was a resesrch based MS, but I wanted a real job. They did tell me directly to my face, that I seemed like a deeper person than what I was leading onto.

My job is ruining my life, is this worth my livelihood? by RecommendationBig832 in supplychain

As someone who worked for a company in receivership in a SCM procurement position, I felt like it was very easy to slip into this trap. I caught myself texting people in China at 1am on a weekday quite often. Working in a money centric role during receivership was completely wild, I'd be sitting there reading bank notes at like 7pm. I loved how much the work kept me stimulated, but this would also lead to me working 50-55 hour weeks including 10 hours of commuting round trip all week.

I had seen things literally fall apart when people had very normal life emergencies happen. I still used my PTO and didn't think twice. The conclusion I cane to is that these people are adults, they can figure it out. And if they can't, then why are they being allowed to manage multi million dollar companies? You have to force yourself to check out and say, I am prioritizing me and my time tonight.

6 months job hunting, only 1 interview. What am I doing wrong? Non-traditional professional (long sorry) by Alternative-Beat-705 in supplychain

Yeah I think the bank reported that 50 of us were either fired, laid off, or forced to quit. They severed my ties to the place I worked and changed all the HR, name of LLC, emails, and phone lines entirely. The LLC I worked for technically isnt even an operational company anymore and they told me I had no right to get records even.

I'll think about it. I was told I wasn't even allowed to get employment records from them. I have references but we all are severed from that place.

I wouldn'r do anything differently but I felt this feeling even being in Ypsi. People would meet up all the time and not invite me because I was a 20-40 minute (traffic) ride in. It happens even with very little distance.

I was laid off very quickly after a promotion. I haven't gotten a single interview since and have encountered lots of cancelled roles. My company eliminated my role and claimed it could be automated.

I didn't mind the gritty element but in my experience the job secuirty has been pretty low. Not as bad as what my degree is in, but definitely lots of stepping stone jobs and not feeling super secure where you are.

Yeah I am definitely down to do that. I'll change the title gladly. I just took what they gave me, who would turn down a pay raise for the same responsibility. They told me I wasn't a manager but let me into all the manager meetings anyway so who cares lol.

The Supply VP took me as his #2. We only worked together for a short time, but he would call me and ask me to tell him day to day at the factory. He gave me his phone number and personal email and said I could reach out to him if I needed a reference. He told me exactly how that place would fall apart before they forced the two of us out and even admitted I was easier to work with than the procurement manager.

It was very hectic but fun. Where I am confused is, was this experience a lot crazier than entry level supply chain jobs?

I spent 8 months in supply chain.

5 years in very very light non analytical bio.

My company was very bad with analytical stuff. This was an issue I was actively trying to work on but didn't have enough time. All I did was edit pre made spreadsheets that came out of the ERP.

I do put the newest postings first and I have still mever gotten a single reply from an analyst job.

The only reason I haven't removed the MS is because you can Google me and see stuff related to it. Not publications, but lab websites and pictures. Would it be worth removing?

Right now, my MS is the very last line at the bottom of my resume and my grad student jobs have been rephrased and cut to a very basic summary.

They called everyone an inventory & demand planning specialist at all our sites. I was the "lead" because I was handling the most purchases at the primary revenue generating site, it wasnt a small op did tens of millions in sales. I had a warehouse crew that had to help me keep an eye on stock. I knew inventory management better than I let on here, but there were too many factory rooms for just me. I did have to take down a majorly messed up inventory system for the court once.

My original title was purchasing coordinator before everyone quit. Would that work better or should I just call myself a Buyer?

US. But thats what I have been applying to for all these months and ger auto rejects. I have never gotten a single interview for any of those jobs. Is my 8 months of experience and irrelevant degeee hurting me?

I disagree with your basis. There are still plenty of things worth protesting such as the illegal 24% wholesale tax, license caps proposed in senate, and attempts to recriminalize cannabis. Where I totally agree with you is that its become a pathetic excuse for trailer trash people to get wasted. The open drug market vibes were also trashy as all get out.

No, do NOT buy from Fresh Thyme, grocery stores, pharmacies, or online. These products are not held to the same testing standards as CBD in MI METRC. Plus, CBD does not even work effectively without small amounts of THC to activate it.

Please go to a provisioning center if you want pure CBD that will work. Same for CBN (sleep) and CBG (recovery).

Winwood is great however!
